I can do it, but ideally we'd get something much better looking if we got the vector logo from Teamliquid. Someone would have designed the logo in a program like Adobe Illustrator, which would result in a scalable version they could use for all sorts of purposes; on the web, for their clothing, printed materials, etc. Converting from a bitmap will get lower quality results.

Although the bigger concern is that some of the small details will not work.

the issue wasn't whether or not they cared about the use of their logo. the issues were "can we get their logo in SVG format for a proper key?" and "would any TL members be interested in a TL key?" i think the answer to both of those would be yes so long as they get to sell them through the TL store.

lol you clowns, make the SVG file yourself by tracing over the logo with some program that can make SVGs. I wouldn't be surprised if TL doesn't even have a SVG file of their logo themselves, it's probably done in a raster program, stop spamming their inbox.

of course, there's the issue of editing the SVG file so that it translate well to the doubleshot key. I think someone already mentioned, liberties might have to be taken with the horse's nose and mouth.

probably going to have to talk to KL or someone with a relationship with signature plastics, unless your willing to just call them up on your own and get the ball rolling. ultimately, it would prolly be better to offer this key as a bigger starcraft key group buy because then you get a better price for ordering more keys. i would definitely buy a package that had logo keys for terran, zerg, protoss, random, wings of liberty / sc2, TL, OGS, SlayerS, EG, ROOT, FXO, and Fnatic. right there, there's enough keys to make a 12 key F# keyset.

I second this recommendation. I would put in an order of several SC logo keys, and I think that everyone else would too. I have missed the group buys for those type keys.

I can handle making a compliant SVG file when I get time. Probably this will be part of the next group order, whenever that is. I think most of the forum is still waiting for the last group order to actually be manufactured and shipped before they get started on a new one. The process takes months.

I did something similar during work but never got around to upload it. I was never really confident if I was understanding the guide correctly or not.. I noticed you did not move the eye or the black "nose" object. Should there not be a 0.5 mm gap between them and the rest of the object that is surrounding them?

Moved things apart a little, removed nose part. Failed at getting it to look good with it.. maybe someone else can do it better, maybe I misunderstood the guide.

Nono, you are correct. I was focusing on the mane so much that I forgot about the eyes and nose!

I do think it looks weird without a nose though. I'll fiddle with it to get a nose in place.

So what colors are we doing this in? WA key cap and BO horse outline would look cool (then again my screen is **** and I cant see the difference between several of the blue shades). I guess dark blue background and light blue foreground are the official colors... Not sure how cool that would look on a doubleshot. I feel a bit like it needs the drop shadow to look great while the white/blue doesn't.

I assume it will end up in the group buy. I sent SP an email today asking how much it would cost to produce 25/50/75/100/200 of them. I assume it will cost much more than in the group buy but it would be faster. Should have a reply early next week I guess (they're not open on fridays? wut?).

I think a BFL logo on a BFK key would be closest to what the TL shirts are like.

But a BFL logo on Black is probably most realistic.

The image should not have any sharp edges. That's why the SC2 keys look so good.

I rounded every single edge and made every line smooth. If it's not fully compatible yet, it should provide a good starting point.

I just got a response from Signature Plastics about 5 minutes ago.

If we do decide to go for this there will be a one-time $35 charge for them to create the mold plus shipping.
Production will take 5 weeks from when they recieve the order plus shipping time.

Pricing for the keycaps is as follows:
25 keys $4.52 / each + $1.4 mold charge
50 keys $2.48 / each + $0.7 mold charge
75 keys $1.80 / each + $0.46 mold charge
100 keys $1.46 / each + $0.35 mold charge
200 keys $0.95 / each + $0.18 mold charge
+ whatever the shipping cost is from SP + individual shipping to you

Color choices do not matter but we can not combine two colors and get volume discount for all of them. If we do 50 black/white and 50 blue/white for example the key caps will cost $2.48 each and not $1.46 each as they would if we picked only one color combination.

So.. maybe we should just do one color now? Would be easier/cheaper to do more colors in Round 4.

There needs to be a poll on colors so maybe we should throw some colors we'd want out there first. Then create a poll with those colors and then go with whatever wins?

GX is the standard black
WA is the White used for text, as well as the white key/whiteblank set (see the Japanese flag key from round 3)
For the blues, I thought the BFL most resembled the TL color from their webpage.

Yes. The price per key is pretty low but then there's all the shipping back and forth... That plus low volume discout would make the price rise quite a bit. The shipping would be about $2 (in a regular envelope). Not like it would make anyone get a second mortgage but it would be nice to try and keep the price down for everyone.

I have been talking to one of the Teamliquid admins and they would prefer it if this was kept off their site. They dont have any issues with 50 people on geekhack getting together for a group buy though. In the end, we are using their logotype - even if we do not profit from it I think we can all understand that its a touchy subject. TL is not just a group of nerds these days but a company.

As someone that works with brands and marketing on a daily basis I can definately understand why they are hesitant to allow it. Let's respect their decision guys. I'm sure we can get enough people for this group buy even without plastering it all over teamliquid.net.

I think that BFL is closest to the actual TL horse logo color, but BFJ is closer to the other shirt (the color of the shirt, not the logo). I've tried, and I don't think we're going to get close to the actual colors, so I'd personally aim for the 2nd shirt.

Ah, I hoped there was some standard way of translating the color codes to CMYK for example. Guess its never easy

Also, you can just use the eyedropper in photoshop, and then double click the color in the area where you choose fill/border. It'll show the RGB/CMYK composition.

It would cost me a little less than $2 to distribute each key (or however many they order) to foreigners in a regular first class envelope with the key in bubble wrap.

I'm Swedish. Shipping abroad to anywhere shouldn't be more than $3 in an envelope with a bit of bubblewrap (up to 20 grams). Registered in a small box would be $15.

Need someone to recieve the package from SP in the US and then forward it to me as a gift with a low dollar value. A few people have talked about them wanting to do something but I have nothing confirmed yet. I really need to know before I start the "real" group buy thread. Otherwise the price per key will rise by atleast 25%

a) I order from SP and the keys are sent to someone in the US. That person then forwards it to me. I handle shipping globally.
b) I order from SP and the keys are sent to someone in the US. That person takes all the US orders out of the package and distributes them. He or she forwards the rest to me.
c) I order from SP and the keys are sent to someone in the US. That person distributes all orders.

Based on the information that Posten (swedish royal mail / usps equivalent) has on their website it will cost me about $3 to distribute globally. That means shipping in a normal envelope with the key in bubblewrap with a total weight of less than 20 grams. $15 for trackable package.

edit: actually there's d) as well where I just get it shipped to me but price would rise by atleast 25%

yea.. i edited it out, because i realised, that it doesn't really save a lot of shipping costs compared to c)

Seems like we'll have to change color from GSM to BO. GSM turned out to be - grey.

Please note the lighting differences between the two pics - compare both BFJ's and see they're quite different under two different lightings.

I feel like BO is a nicer blue, but the BFJ in both pictures look very different from one another

EDIT: Perhaps if we can get a picture with all three color swatches in the same lighting environment that would help alot. Preferably a top down view of just those three colors. I don't have any swatches so I can't create said image

Yeah I'm aware of that image, however the lighting isn't consistent from the top of the swatches to the bottom because the image is large.

Indeed, sadly I don't have a color swatch so I personally cant really do anything. Lighting / white balance seems to be off for every single picture I've found.

Okay it doesn't really bother me which one we pick, its not like lighting is absolutely perfect in my place all the time and i see the color is off by a tiny margin (if it is). We still need a distributor from the US though..

When it happens though I'd like at least 2 though

I have a swatch; I'd recommend BFN on BFK. BO is pretty good for background, but BFJ isn't a good fit.
I took a picture, tried to light it well and did auto-white balance on it. Not sure how accurate the auto white balance is, but it looks more accurate on my screen than the attachment you've got.

Since you actually have the swatches and have seen them IRL, lets go with BFN on BFK if thats the best fit. Creating the ordering thread tonight when I get home from work.

DARN THE COLOR CALIBRATION!

From my monitor, BFN looks a little too dull. I don't think the logo will pop out of the key. Perhaps BBJ on BFK?
