I'm thinking..

- Light blue on Black (BFL Logo on Black)
- White on Black (WCK on black?)
- White on Blue (WCK on BO of BFK?)

Other colors would probably be also interesting, but we'd need the numbers to keep prices low, if I recall correctly.

I think Blue on White would be very nice too, not too sure on the White on Black never seen the logo without blue somewhere

The image should not have any sharp edges. That's why the SC2 keys look so good.

I rounded every single edge and made every line smooth. If it's not fully compatible yet, it should provide a good starting point.

I just got a response from Signature Plastics about 5 minutes ago.

If we do decide to go for this there will be a one-time $35 charge for them to create the mold plus shipping.
Production will take 5 weeks from when they recieve the order plus shipping time.

Pricing for the keycaps is as follows:
25 keys $4.52 / each + $1.4 mold charge
50 keys $2.48 / each + $0.7 mold charge
75 keys $1.80 / each + $0.46 mold charge
100 keys        $1.46 / each + $0.35 mold charge
200 keys        $0.95 / each + $0.18 mold charge
+ whatever the shipping cost is from SP + individual shipping to you

Color choices do not matter but we can not combine two colors and get volume discount for all of them. If we do 50 black/white and 50 blue/white for example the key caps will cost $2.48 each and not $1.46 each as they would if we picked only one color combination.

So.. maybe we should just do one color now? Would be easier/cheaper to do more colors in Round 4.

There needs to be a poll on colors so maybe we should throw some colors we'd want out there first. Then create a poll with those colors and then go with whatever wins?

Keycap color / Printed color:
Dark Blue / Pure White
Pure White / Dark Blue
Black / Pure White

Current design:

Awesome to hear the good news, as for the colour I believe Dark Blue / Pure White OR Pure White / Dark Blue would be the best, TL logo needs some blue in it somewhere

Those are both shades of blue, correct? (too tired to look it up)

While they do use that in the logo I feel like it really needs that inner drop shadow to work well.. Should definately be an option in the poll, just my 2c

I noticed that the wiki for the Group Buy's wiki been updated, so I've added the matching color codes.

GX is the standard black
WA is the White used for text, as well as the white key/whiteblank set (see the Japanese flag key from round 3)
For the blues, I thought the BFL most resembled the TL color from their webpage.
BFJ was another GHer's suggestion

Yes. The price per key is pretty low but then there's all the shipping back and forth... That plus low volume discout would make the price rise quite a bit. The shipping would be about $2 (in a regular envelope). Not like it would make anyone get a second mortgage but it would be nice to try and keep the price down for everyone.

Hoping we could get atleast 75 keys done.

They are expected to announce something major today so you may want to save this news (about the keys) until that news has properly seeded.  I think once you let TL and possibly r/starcraft know of this, you may need to order more than 75 keys.

Looks like it was closed because you have to make an account here to see the pictures.  They probably wouldn't object if it was an open system, but you have to make an account at to place orders anyways.

I have been talking to one of the Teamliquid admins and they would prefer it if this was kept off their site. They dont have any issues with 50 people on geekhack getting together for a group buy though. In the end, we are using their logotype - even if we do not profit from it I think we can all understand that its a touchy subject. TL is not just a group of nerds these days but a company.

As someone that works with brands and marketing on a daily basis I can definately understand why they are hesitant to allow it. Let's respect their decision guys. I'm sure we can get enough people for this group buy even without plastering it all over teamliquid.net.

Yes you're completely right. Thanks for all the mockups. I'm at a loss when it comes to translating BFJ for example to a color in illustrator =(

The bottom-right looks really close to official colors but then again I'm on a horrible TN monitor. What do you think is the closest?

I think that BFL is closest to the actual TL horse logo color, but BFJ is closer to the other shirt (the color of the shirt, not the logo).  I've tried, and I don't think we're going to get close to the actual colors, so I'd personally aim for the 2nd shirt.

Eye dropper is friend!  Well, I just have photoshop cs5 open with its fancy eyedropper, compare real life photos to the signature plastics sample, and then copy colors!

Ah, I hoped there was some standard way of translating the color codes to CMYK for example. Guess its never easy ;)

Anyway ,I'll go with your judgement on that and create a poll with the options that have been presented so far.

edit: Minor snag, max 10 poll options. Should probably remove some of the white/blue on shade of black keys? I honestly cant see the difference :F I'll get the poll up tomorrow, need to get up for work early tomorrow so I'm heading to bed. Already past midnight here.

Which ones would you like me to put up?  I can do this tomorrow, as you're probably already asleep.

Also, you can just use the eyedropper in photoshop, and then double click the color in the area where you choose fill/border.  It'll show the RGB/CMYK composition.

It does seem a bit silly and shortsighted to me, but no need to "**** em".  People don't need a GH account to buy in right?  Can't we post a picture on imgur and just say "send an email/PM for details"?  Would that fly with TL mods?  I guess not if their real concern is not GH advertising but controlling their own image on their own site.  *shrug*

At any rate, no reason to exclude /r/starcraft.

If this gets really big we might need a couple of extra people to handle distribution. I'm honestly quite poor at the moment and I worry a little bit about losing money on this from some miscalculation. If its just 50 keys  and I make a tiny loss on each key it wouldn't bother me but if its 200 keys that adds up.

I'm Swedish so I'm unsure if I would have to pay additional import taxes (while one keycap is cheap the value of the package could easily be a few hundred dollars). Considering VAT over here is 25% that would quickly spiral out of control price-wise. Would it be cheaper to make SP send the keys to someone in the US that handles north/south american distribution? That person could send a box with the keys to Europeans to me (and write $20 as the value). Then I could do EU distribution. Or would it be cheaper to just distribute stuff to everyone from the US? It would cost me a little less than $2 to distribute each key (or however many they order) to foreigners in a regular first class envelope with the key in bubble wrap.

If we piggyback along the Round 4 Group Buy, we won't have to take care of distribution, but we'd have to wait awhile.  Analysis of free time, go!

Well I feel like there's no reason for us to sit around for 6+ months just because we cant do a MASSIVE group buy. This can still be added to the round 4 group buy as well.

I could probably handle distribution if we did 50 keys max (or rather, 50 buyers max) but the package from SP would need to be sent to someone in the US first. That person can then forward it to me and give it a value of, say, $20 and mark it as a gift. That way we wouldn't get absolutely killed on VAT and import tax.

BED on BFJ near black on light blue
BED on WA near black on white
WA on GX white on black
BFJ on BED light blue on near black
BFJ on GSM light blue on dark blue (as near official colors as we can get)
BFJ on WA light blue on white

I am creating the poll later. Any colors that I have missed? Those seem to be the best out of the ones we've talked about so far.
