Title: Unicomp Model M for only $40 (Chicago Area Only)
Post by: SamirD on Fri, 20 October 2017, 00:33:06
Saw this just a few minutes ago.  I already have a lot of Ms, but maybe someone local needs one?

"This posting has expired."

That said, it was stimulating, the idea of a keyboard being available only in a specific metropolitan area. Imagine how many other items are out there that require local pickup! I'll probably spend the rest of the day thinking about it. Okay, there's not much to do here in the 'burbs.

And you have your chance!  Relisted even $5 less!

Please get this before I do!  I already have enough Ms here, but won't be able to resist this price for long.

It's neat to put in 'Model M' into adhuntr.com or searchtempest.com and let them search all over craigslists to see the wide variety of prices that these go for.  You can also find other nearby boards like this (poker, opre, etc), which ends up being a better deal because shipping tends to add $15-20 on any purchase, and on cheaper used boards shipping starts to make less sense.

Oh, wow. I totally glossed over the fact that it's a Unicomp.
Never mind!

Don't turn up your nose at a Unicomp. Haters have really promoted a mostly-unjustified prejudice.

I've had both Unicomps and original IBM Model Ms. Not keen on acquiring another Unicomp.

I must agree. While Unicomps aren't quite as robust as their IBM or Lexmark antecedents (it wouldn't be possible, otherwise, to offer a real buckling-spring keeb for under $100 these days), they're still delightful fun. I find their lighter construction, thockier feel and more resonant sound a welcome contrast with older, more stolid M's—and you should, too. So there.

The Force in you, strong is.

I agree.  that thonkier feel is definitely different--and I've never tried it on the traditional 101 Unicomp as I only have a 104 Unicomp.  So I've convinced myself to get this as soon as I get back in town. :D
