A tiny gripe, but I'd like super/meta keys since I don't use Windows.

Great set!

Frosty, what about just investing in a single ICON to symbolize the Windows, Various OS's and such?

That way, we all know that in that area we aren't morons wanting to see Windows Logo sitting there reminding us constantly that we are using a Windows setup.  Time to finally grow up and mature because we need a UNIVERSAL Logo that sits in that position and lets any user know that it's OS related only.

Sick of paying for extra Windows, Linux and Mac Logo Keys constantly in nearly every Group Buy held here on GH.  Time to finally release an all encompassing ICON that can be applied for every known OS that was ever made or will be made, plus for the poverty stricken give them a cheaper option.  Remember Henry Ford's famous quote back when you can have any colour you want for your brand new car, as long as it was BLACK (something to think about here).

A good idea whose time has come. I'd get behind this, if someone more talented than I could come up with a suitable.logo.

We have the diamond, sometimes used as the "meta" key.  I guess it was popular on some Sun and Apple keyboards.  Would that suffice, or would it be too confusing?

It doesn't get much simpler than that.

I posted something similar to this in the other thread, but how about this as an os key just for this set.

Just a simple generic terminal icon. I'm sure someone could throw together a higher quality one in a vector drawing program, or there are probably tons of free icons out there. I think a cli icon fits with the whole retro theme. Maybe it could be a C:> prompt or just a simple rectangular cursor.

That's actually pretty cool!  :thumb:
It's pretty fitting for this set.

Any chance of a dvorak set? This is a great color scheme but I just can't rock the qwerty.

I'm interested in what the colorway will look like when these are produced. If the price is right, then I'll definitely be interested.

Blanks will likely be available.
No idea if I would want to include a set for that.

I did another quick attempt at that terminal icon. Hopefully this looks better.

Since SP needs rounded corners I made these.

Also these without the power button.

Yes please. Would it be possible for a more "uniform" color (e.g. all green, all blue, etc.) for the mods, as opposed to the current assorted mix of colors? :D

If there is enough interest, I will do it.
I don't like bloating the group buy with a bunch of child packs that won't tip.

The boring Joes kit was just a pack that was for those who didn't want coloured mods.
A colour kit would be the opposite of that and I would have to figure out something for a different colour pack. Perhaps I could put penumbra blue and boring Joes in the same kit. Although that would essentially double the cost of the kit.

That will always be the chief problem - a few here wanting SPECIAL keys included, yet the vast majority will never want it (nor pay for it).

You've got to stick to the original with a tiny mod section of small extras to appeal to a greater range of buyer.  I'm in with this simply because it's another beautifully Contoured, SA baby with such style and grace it reminds me of another time period back in history.

Also about the OS keys I'm happy with a simple diamond shape or stick with "WIN" text if it's cheaper to do, so that you can get this off the ground and bought by the majority here on this forum.  Don't let the selection of one key derail this whole GB because it usually happens when a suggestion has been made (sorry)  then everything goes off on a tangent, meaning the whole process stops in it's tracks.

Yes, I should keep that in mind.
However, I will be sure to run a form for any of the non-essential ideas that aren't seemingly popular.
This will help me eliminate useless sets and keep some that people want.

Other forms of payment include:
-your firstborn (preferably son)
-your soul
-maybe even a soul of a relative

No such thing as a CONFLICT because each and every organizer here knows what is being or going to run here in this section.

Also this set is lighter in colour to JD's darker themed creation hence every lover of Contoured SA shall be able to embrace the beauty bestowed upon us heathens  8) .

Well that's pretty much it. You summed it up quite well. On the paper this set looks quite nice too. I know it has nothing to do with Jdcarpe's. However think it the other way around: if you only had the money to buy one, which one would you get?

Food is something I don't want to make any cut off on. I mostly eat local and/or organic. Hate me for it if you wish but I'd rather leave the mechanical keyboard hobby than eating ****ty food on daily basis.

My problem is just that I have a mental block on spending 100+€ on key caps no matter how beautiful they are. That'd be almost the same price as my new board. I think it'll just pass once I buy my first one.

Have you ever tried pine apple and beetroot juice? If not, take one or two glasses, get a nap, and buy a couple of new sets, you will feel absolutely better after all that.

Well that's pretty much it. You summed it up quite well. On the paper this set looks quite nice too. I know it has nothing to do with Jdcarpe's. However think it the other way around: if you only had the money to buy one, which one would you get?

You can probably get some more money in the interim? Ramen is cheap.

Food is something I don't want to make any cut off on. I mostly eat local and/or organic. Hate me for it if you wish but I'd rather leave the mechanical keyboard hobby than eating ****ty food on daily basis.

My problem is just that I have a mental block on spending 100+ on key caps no matter how beautiful they are. That'd be almost the same price as my new board. I think it'll just pass once I buy my first one.

No, I was just kidding around about the ramen. :)

But I do know what you mean. It's like a shock when you find out how much everyone spends on keycap sets. But as you said, you buy one, then another, and you just get used to it.
Don't worry I knew you were joking

.

I think I'll go for a set of yours. Anyway I expect it to have a high retail value. If I don't like it, it'll still be possible to sell it pretty much for the same price.

Have you ever tried pine apple and beetroot juice? If not, take one or two glasses, get a nap, and buy a couple of new sets, you will feel absolutely better after all that.
I'll keep that in mind.

I just got my colour ring guys!
I will finalize the colours and then not run a poll for them because I have learned that the community is ****e when it comes to asking what they want.  :p
I was joking about that comment.... kind of... not really at all...

It is, its best we leave main choices up to the leader, but will there be a novelty add-on pack? It would be cool to have a GH key and DT key, even though it kind of obliterates the point of a universal OS key.

GH key will be in there like it is in the mockup, but nothing else.
I mean... Maybe I will tease you guys and say that there are secretive surprises....  :-*

How yellowed are the alphas going to be? Is it going to be as yellow as the Penumbra set or a bit lighter/darker than it?

Well from the initial mockups, the alphas will be the EXACT same as penumbra.
I separated the mods from the alphas so that owners of it could save a butt load of money.

Although I am having second thoughts on the alpha colour.

The OP has updated mockups with the finalized colours!
These colours have been taken from the DeskThority database and will be the most accurate representations of the final product.

I don't know any Asian pornstars, but this set would be akin to one.

this set looks ultra yellowed. I'm sorry but it doesn't work. It just makes your board look old and nasty/ used.

MY curiosity prompts me to ask: how does a yellow/beige board like this yellow/age? Will it remain the same colour after 40 years?
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

That is something I wonder myself, however I don't have a conclusion.
Although since most people keep a lot of their sets in storage for many years at a time in this enthusiast community, it can't be that bad.

Ultra Yellow colour is perfect for me because I don't have any besides Penumbra and I really love that colour-way, unlike you I cherish older keyboards and their caps. Having a set that already looks aged saves time for me because I can't wait another 20 years for my key-caps to look aged  8) .

If the plastic is the same as the key-caps then it will change altogether in colour as it ages.  But some manufacturers play with different versions of plastic such as PBT or Composites of the casing hence it will possibly change but in a different time frame.

Damn, once this goes on to be a group buy,

well,

all I have to say is RIP my wallet.

What would be really amazing would be if a price point similar to nuclear data could be hit, but that seems really unlikely.

I have no idea how much the alpha set + mod kit will cost but I can say that there are several extra keys in here which would bump up the cost slightly.
The set is split up into several kits which would reduce the price for some. However, unfortunately, it will be more expensive for those who want everything.
