I haven't tried top mounted yet when it comes to 60%. It's hard to say which I'd prefer more, though I do really like the compatibility and solidness of the one piece tray style. In my experience with plates that are "suspended" from being top-mounted, both in vintage designs and customs, there's a bit more springiness to the typing feel. A bit more flex because of there being that floating area of plate around the mounting points.

I notice, with my Orion v2, now using carbon fiber for the plate material, but with stainless steel as well, that you can feel the energy of the bottoming out being transferred through the plate. Like I can feel vibrations in my left hand through the keys when I'm using my right for typing and vise versa.

With the tray-mounted version, the case pretty much deadens all that, especially if you use something like a shelf liner mat or sorbothane.

I haven't dampened my Orion though, mainly because  Alps SKCM Blue would become pretty muted. I'm sure if there was pressure beneath the PCB, it would deaden those vibrations.

It's actually something I've seen a lot of vintage top-mounted Alps boards do. There's usually some kind of dampening device in between the PCB and case supporting it. Usually some kind of rubber pad.

It does kind of feel nice though. :P

With tray-mounted, it feels like you're typing on a brick, haha. Which can be good for certain things, like linears. Very solid feel there.

This is what I've heard too: use a very solid construction for linear switches, and a softer construction for tactile and clicky switches.

The question is, what kind of plate mounting is softer and which is more solid.
Some say is top-mount, some say is tray-mount.

I think top-mounting for 60% and 75% perhaps will not be as springy (how you described it) as in a TKL.

p.s. I'm now using a switch-to-PCB mounted capacitive rubber-dome board, when my left hand types, my right hand doesn't feel much.

Being that I want to use SKCM Browns with this case, I'm not sure. Tray-mounted, imo, is obviously the more solid option because of the PCB being screwed into the bottom like that. You could argue that the plate itself isn't mounted at all... Hmmm. Still, the PCB has tons of support and contact points.

I just don't want the tactility to be too harsh, but I think it'll be fine. I like the springiness on the Orion v2 though.

I think the seamlessness of a one-piece style is more attractive, but I'll keep a look out for the two piece top mounted design too

True, true. There's also the KMAC Happy, but that's about all I can think of. The OTD 356 Mini has an interesting mounting method too.

FVCK NO, but it still doesn't mean I don't go cheering on from the sidelines for this Baby.

Great design always needs it's fanboys and you can put me down as one of them.  Just because I didn't win anything doesn't mean I park the hype and forget about this product.

The lucky ones who have this, treasure it forever because you won't get another one like this from any other person.

No, but we are going into a waiting period where we wait for samples, so it won't be before February, probably.

Will the non-responsive slots be replaced via RNG also?

Just hold the faith, something like this doesn't occur too frequently but if the OP isn't getting any responses naturally move it on over to people who will lay down the money instantly.

This is exactly like throwing dice against the wall, most of the time you will lose so you always try it again and again until you get the golden 12  :thumb: .

Takes time, although LZ always has a STRONG cut off date for all payments otherwise the recipients will drag it on for weeks or even months, before a single cent is handed over.
