Issue with SP keycaps and filco stabs
« on: Wed, 24 May 2017, 14:18:06 »
Hi there,

Sorry in advance if this question has already been asked.

I'm just starting with tuning my majestouch and received a keycap set from signatureplastics/pimpmykeyboard yesterday.

As you can see from the picture attached, the stabilisers studs do not stay into place into the space bar. Essentially the space bar does not behave well now, because the stabiliser is not working due to this  :(

I did not mess it too much with the mounts by installing the set so I wonder... Did I get a key from SP that is not tight enough, or do I already need to buy new mounts ?

Any advice? Because now i have a keyboard that I like but with a space bar that behaves badly :/

thanks in advance for your expert insigts !!

This is a very common issue with costar stabs.

Many people recommended putting a small piece of plastic bag between the stab stem and keycap to hold it together.

djeez, I did not expect that I would have to tune it even further with plastic bag pieces  :-X - I thought that I was buying stuff that is near-professional quality lol

Thanks for the tip - I will definitely give it a try and report back here.

Yeah this is a known problem that I really wish they would fix already. I usually just use a tiny bit of elmers glue to attach them. It's easy enough to remove, but strong enough that it will hold up to typing. I tried the plastic bag option, but i was never a fan.

The Filco SA set comes with those things glued in haha. Apparently getting them unglued is a bit of a beast

Glued?  :-X
That sucks. Must make it pretty annoying to mod.

I think teflon tape works well, but Elmer's glue isn't a bad idea.  I'm sure it doesn't hold too tight if you ever want to remove it

No, not at all. They are easily removed with a good pair of pliers.

I had to glue them on a set of keycaps with costar stabs as well.. something that will hold but you can remove is possible later

I used Aleene's hobby glue as it was what I had around the house...

Went the plastic bag route and it fixed the issue. Thanks for the many tips anyway !

I still think that this is a manufacturing tolerance problem, since none (yes, none) of the stock keycaps are loose like that. The studs just fit nice and tight and stay there.
