car key fobs.....
« on: Mon, 10 July 2017, 22:57:10 »
I am wondering where do you guys put your car key fob...
A older (for old here I mean 10-20 years) car's key is rather small and able to hang with rest of my keys and stuck into my pocket.
For example a old toyota
More

or a old bmw
More

both of them are not very small, but at least they are able to stuck into a pocket without getting a gigantic hump in the front pocket..

but for newer car's key fobs, especially around this 5 years, seems that the size just getting out of control......

bmw:
More

mustang:
More

audi:
More

seems that they dont make them as keys but remote controllers, these things are just getting stupidly large... you cant really hang them with you keys. and I have seen just so many people end up hanging bunch of keys on a belt loop
really, wtf is going on

Goes to show what I've always said; cars are getting more and more tasteless. My old Audi's fob fits in my wallet.

Probably because I'm still quite young, I haven't feel cars are getting tasteless yet.

I hope car key can just be a key, just like a key for the door of your house. Or at the most, has button to lock and unlock.
That bmw is just ridiculous imo. Maybe they will completely ditch the key and use a mobile app to do everything one day.

I wonder how people that wear slim suit put their car key...it would be pretty ugly to have a hump in the trousers pocket

I've had mobile phones that were smaller than that BMW fob :p .

BMW is virtually the king of tasteless nowadays, though. Their old cars by contrast used to look AMAZING!

This is not true,  they make the ones you can afford ugly on purpose , so that people will covet the ones they Can't afford.

In Ireland in the 90's Mercedes seemed like the dominant luxury brand, then BMW and a small bit of Audi.

Then in the 00's it was almost all BMW.

Now it's all Audis.

Lexi were really popping when the IS200 came out first but I never see any new ones.

I know right? That BMW one is just gross.
I can't believe it has to be that over the top.

It's basically what people buy BMWs for nowadays. No longer are they the brand of choice for classy businessmen, but for plebs with too much money who want to show it off as much as possible :p .

I guess they're not QUITE as ugly as Audis are nowadays, though.

I have completely lost interest in BMW's. Their designs just don't appeal to me.
Mercedez on the other hand. Man those new models are seeeeexeh.

I agree, Mercedes creates beautiful cars. Definitely want one later in my life.
Also hope to maybe work for them after my studies.

I am pretty happy with my FJ key/fob.  I definitely don't like the idea of having a fob on my keychain though.

I prefer keyless entry..

But then there's the hackers problem with nfc.

Give it a few years and car entry will be based around an app on your phone. Then you can all place your "back in my day" transponder talk in the necro pile.

Best thing they ever did with my car was redesign the key so that you can actually change the battery, too bad I have to model just prior that change.

Dis like ma key and dis how it should stay.

Simple is the way to go.

I like them old-school where you actually have to put the key in the door to unlock it...  :p

You welcome to steal my car, if you wanna fly to Australia. Then pay about a grand to fly to a ****hole. Then steal my car that is probably worth 5k.... on a good day. Then pay a couple hundred in fuel to drive it to the nearest major city. So that I can claim the 7k insurance.

GO AHEAD I DARE YOU.
