This is an interest check for GMK Wāpuro (thank you u/lovetree for the suggestion!). I am picking up where I left off last October with this set I submitted for the Massdrop Design Contest. I've been pretty busy with other things, but I carved out some time to hone this set a little further. It is still a work in progress, but I think it's ready for some feedback.

This set is based on a keyset found on Sony's 1987 PJ-100 Word Processor. I loved this set from the first time I saw it and GMK Wāpuro is my best attempt at recreating it. With the advent of GMK Laser and Red Samurai, making this set a reality has become incredibly possible. Below are the images that inspired this replica set:





I had help from some great guys on Reddit, who translated all of the keys for me. You can find that post here if you're interested

This set will be doubleshot using the molds from GMK Laser and Red Samurai, the green legends will be front printed using pad printing. I hope I can get the sublegends to be yellow, but we will see

Your mockup format is very good looking

I get that it’s an aesthetic choice, but the fact that this set (of all kana sublegend sets) doesn’t support actual JIS layout for use of the Kana IME seems strange with all the monoglot Japanese sublegends and modifiers. Looks good, anyway.

Yeah it might not be realistic to get the sublegend to be a different color. I'm trying to see if GMK can come up with a solution to make this possible. Otherwise, its just going to be all CP legends with the green front printed text

The green text will definitely be pad printed, but it's a front printed legend. So, if the text somehow comes off it's your own fault for typing like a fool haha

The only real custom legends will come from the add ons and accent keys, but it shouldn't end up being more than any other set with a novelties kit

Looks great for a start! I agree that a kit layout similar to GMK Laser would be nice for a wide keyboard compatibility. DC kit might be expensive since new molds have to be made but I'm game if it's on Massdrop. Don't think any other vendor can help with the DC kit like this.

I'm all in on this, this is the true cyberpunk keyset if you think about it. This keyset fits in with the world of Blade Runner and Terminator more than GMK Laser does. Hopefully this thing comes out!

Love it. Easily my favorite set since Laser. Could you swap the HHKB backspace from an arrow to text, though? Having one cap be icon-only always bugs me. The spacebars kit could use four convex 1u caps for ortho too.

Yeah, 2B is "cooler" and would match N9 better imo. On the other hand, BV is a warmer version of N9 and would pair nicely with CC.

Ref pic: I tossed a few other colors in for reference too. N6 might work for the yellow sublegends, but it's def not true to the original. AE looks like a good fit for the green pad printed legends.

My preference would also be for cooler tones. Brown gray is harder to match up nicely with non-black cases. Also, in the two pictures from OP to start off the IC, the first was a more color-accute capture of the Sony hardware and the second was clearly taken in warm lighting... The colors for these caps seems to have been taken from the over-warm photo. I don't think it needs to go all the way toward cool gray, but do agree 2B is preferable.

Missed this set when it was first proposed months ago. I like some of the proposed color changes to make it slightly different from just "weeb dolch," but maybe that's not a bad idea.

If this set is going to exist, I have thoughts on the ergodox kit:

1) If the mod color remains N9, you probably won't need to have (or be able to) this kit made. It already exists. Terminal's N9 ergodox kit has already had two rounds and there will be some in stock. They even come with Skidata orange accent keys.

2) While probably enormously expensive, it might be cool to see if it would be possible to get symbols or hirigana legends on the the ergodox mods. While not necessarily my jam, people seem to like the idea of somethingon their mods, like with Space Cadet's Assembly. It would be a cool way for this set to stand out from the existing N9 kit. Though, it might be cost prohibitive.

This set looks really great.  I think it's worth mentioning that JTK is able to make tripleshot keycaps now, so this set can potentially be made in tripleshot instead of pad printing with the Japanese sublegends.  The downside is JTK's tripleshot Cyrillic set hasn't come out yet so no one can really attest to their quality.

If you would offer us choices to get opposite colors on the alphas and modifiers in the kits (dark alphas lighter modifiers) that be perfect, but I can understand if you don't if you want to get as many people as possible to get a main kit and reduce cost / reach order targets, though I can see some of us preferring dark mod and alphas / or dark alphas+lighter modifier keys etc.

And someone please make this design a reality.
