Things to do in Canada, eh?
« on: Tue, 05 June 2018, 08:44:12 »
I'm going on holiday to Western Canada with a bunch of friends later this year. Basically from Calgary to Vancouver, picking up Vancouver Island on the way. I already have a rough planning, but maybe anyone here has any jewels around that area I might be overlooking? :D

Hmmm. To be honest, I don't need to go to Canada to get wasted; we have some fairly decent drinking facilities here as well xD .

I hate coffee. I don't see why people drink that rubbish.

There IS a coffee shop right opposite my house, though. They don't sell coffee there.

Have you had coffee that hasn't been brewed and scorched in a disgusting, never cleaned office drip machine? I used to hate coffee that wasn't half cream and sugar (and even then just tolerated it). I got an aeropress and decent coffee (i.e. not Folgers), and now I like it black, especially with toast and jam.

Anyway, to your original question, the only place I've been to in Canada is Vancouver Island. Butchart Garden is somewhat neat. Craigdarroch Castle is slightly neat; it used to be a Women's college or something, even though it's only 1 foot by 1 foot in area.
Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

The world has become a weird place.

No, all coffee I've ever had literally tasted like charcoal. I did once have some of that cat**** coffee at a farm in Indonesia, though, which was moderately better. But still, might as well have hot chocolate.

Will check out your suggestion though.

If you're roadtripping through the Rockies, some of my favorite adventures were hot springs next to cold rivers. You soak in the hot water and then jump into the ice cold river, and repeat.

Okanogan Valley was also really nice if you're there during fruit season. Really cute little town.

It's really beautiful, man. I've only done it once, but I'm still looking forward to doing it at least once again someday. The mountains are breathtaking, and sometimes the roads can be a little scary, but the adventure is so worth it. I hope you have a fantastic trip!

I can second the Okanagan Valley suggestion. As long as there aren't any fires raging it's a beautiful place.

Take advantage of their health care system while you are there.  Maybe score some cheap drugs and them resell them south of the border for profit.

You could probably go for a reasonably priced bear ride. There's really nothing like a nice bear back ride to calm the nerves.

But easier to sell the prescription drugs here.  Opioid epidemic, anyone?

If you're going Calgary to Vancouver I'd suggest checking out the Okanagan. Worth the detour on the fastest route from calgary to vancouver which is a pretty boring drive once you get past the rockies and before you hit the coastal mountain range. If you're coming before the fall/early fall wine touring is one of the main things people visiting do around here if that interests you at all Id recommend checking out Okanagan Falls or Naramata Bench areas as they aren't too far out of your way (taking the 3 instead of highway 5 is a way more scenic drive anyways and has more stops along it worth checking out). Once you are closer to the coast I'd also suggest checking out Othello Tunnels or Bridal Veil Falls they're pretty neat stops. Tons of beautiful places to visit just don't know exactly what you're looking for.  :p best of luck on your trip.

I can buy drugs literally across the streets and everybody here is insured for healthcare.

We don't have valleys though. Of any kind. At all.

Not sure where on the island you'll be, but if you have the time, a trip to Tofino is highly recommended. One of my favourite places in Canada. If you go make sure to stop at Cathedral Grove, it's on the way.
