I probably shouldn't have looked at this thread.
What's a good (and extremely cheap) beginner kit? Like, are there any that you don't have to paint? (I'd say I'm uber lazy but really I just don't want to buy paint)
I'd like to build my first Gundam.

Any HG(High Grade) is pretty good for beginner ^-^  just choose one that look cool to you
And don't worry about painting, painting makes it looks better, but without painting still looks very good

Painting is not a requirement. Each gundam model usually comes in the correct colors already which is shown in the box including decals. HR is stickers mostly but MG are dry transfer IIRC.

Some paints them just to remove the shiny effect of the bare plastic of the model but that can be fixed by sanding it with a fine grit sandpaper, but also, this are optional steps.

Hope that helps.

what would be the less gundam-y gundam model? I'm not a huge gundam fan, but I wouldn't mind building some big ass robot. What would be in your opinion the best gundam model for a not gundam fan?

Zaku

https://playevolution.wordpress.com/2010/01/27/mg-1100-ms-06j-zaku-ii-ver-2-0-final-write-up/

These are the most popular non-gundam mecha because of the big surface area for painting purposes or decal designs.

dat HG price doe
Lol thats MG price, almost as expensive as a Jegan D-type makes me cry every time making mass production suits exclusive :I

The regular green frame Unicorn RX-0 is only slightly cheaper, and this one's a Japan 7-11 exclusive.
http://www.gundamplanet.com/hguc-unicorn-gundam-destroy-mode-green-frame-ver.html

Also found it on Amazon for $10 less
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00K7WO8EU/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&colid=3NMU5TUP6GJ2Z&condition=new&coliid=I18IN5HY4SLAIC
Your paying far too much although the shipping costs its like 1000 Yen for SAL

http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN989487/Gun

A HG is like $21 full armour unicorn

Whaaaaa! So basically buying in Japan is $10-20 cheaper than in the US.... even comparing to eBay prices factoring that shipping them from JAP or HK either takes 2+ months or costs $15+. That sucks for anyone not in Japan or China :(

Yup, after comparing their prices with US prices they all seem to be on average 25% cheaper including shipping costs on both sides.  :-X

Yeah HLJ is a pretty good sight I buy most stuff from them, example for like 7 HG kits shipping it works out like 3000Yen for Fedex 3 day delivery, it pretty much always works out cheaper from a site like HLJ.com or Amiami.com Also keep a eye out as Bandi often do free parts with kits, last year it was a free weapon set with every HG kit bought I have like 20 of them sets >_>

TBH the only PG I like are the RX-0 and Strike Rouge, the rest either look too plain or have too much dumb **** on their backs :P

The Astray frames are ok I guess, but the rest are meh.

Neo Zeong looks like the most fun, plus it comes with a full-sized HG Sinanju that rides it. ****ing awesome!

This came in the mail today, Sazabi Ver Ka and ma tools  ;D
This kit is HUGE, way bigger and more intricate than I thought. The color seperation is really cool though, there are 4 different shades of red so it already looks painted. So cool.

waaaay too many microscopic waterslide decals though. i hate dealing with waterslides  >:D

I want a matt look for this guy, so I'm just going to do some matt Mr. Hobby and call it a day. Also considering this is my 1st gunpla build in 15 years I don't wanna do anything too out of my element.

nicee!

got my exia dark matter today too, got something to work on this weekend

you know, it looked like a really cool neon-y pink in the picks, but IRL it's most of a pinky-red. I'm gonna head down to the hobby store to find something to paint it

This came in the mail today, Sazabi Ver Ka and ma tools  ;D
This kit is HUGE, way bigger and more intricate than I thought. The color seperation is really cool though, there are 4 different shades of red so it already looks painted. So cool.

Still working on it :(

I got this new contract that's been eating up my daytime, and when I get home I'm too lazy to do anything constructive. Aiming to have it built by the end of next week.... probably.

Can anyone explain to me why I keep buying more Gunpla kits when I still haven't even finished the one I started a month ago? I hope this doesn't wind up like keyboards where I have dozens of extra sets and caps I never use, but for some reason keep buying more.  :-\

wtf is wrong with me?

This type of combination is only possible if you have a legacy of several hundred kits..

he is in Way deep..

You have to reach the point where you see model-kits as just plastic and formless.

Why is no one painting here! It looks so much better even if it's just one color

This thread is tempting me to spend more money that I want to.... I had a bit of airbrushing stuff back home in Canada too.....

The trouble with painting is the huge upfront cost with compressor, paints,  mixers,  putty,  primer, base coat,  gloss.

It's way way worse than keyboards.

That's the upsetting part, I have all this stuff in Canada already...
