Sorry to ping this thread again about the same topic. I figured out most of the dimensions I need for the plate, but there is one left: the plate thickness. Other brass plates I have are 1.5mm, so I'm guessing that might be right, but I don't know how much room there is for error in a gasket mounted system and I don't want to order something and later find it doesn't fit! The other options I'm given (by laser boost) are 1.2mm or 3mm (which I assume is way too thick). Sendcutsend offers 1.6mm, which I'd hope is close enough to 1.5mm as to be equivalent.

I could, of course, wait for my sagittarius to arrive and measure the thickness of the plate, but if you could let me know the thickness of the one that comes with the sagittarius ahead of time it would allow me to get everything together ready for when the keyboard itself arrives :-)

Thanks for the help, sorry to have to keep banging on about the plate!

1.5 or 1.6 should both do.

Has anyone considered further the possibility of a wrist rest for this board? Seems like the case shape would require something custom to really work well with it. Haven't heard of any news on this front, though.

It was considered at some point, but I don't know what's the status on that

But who’s going to make it happen? Have the design files for the case been released? Should be helpful to any community efforts.

All Ergo boards should be made with a matching wrist rest, without it the board does not feel complete.

Either CK would have to do it, or someone who has the capacity and knowledge to do it would have to get Upas to give them the required information to make a matching one or to gather the measurements themselves once the boards start to get into people's hands.

Ok fair, you win for obvious reasons :b

Out of curiosity - based on design intentions, prototyping, and your personal preferences, do you already have a plan for how you want to build the board(s) you’re receiving?

The original Sagittarius -- the blue unit Taeha built -- is going to Tom's family. Couldn't be different. I'm getting the GB version, I'll build it with some Lilacs and probably a DSA Elven I have here since both me and him were huge Tolkien nerds

Ok so the stock fiwmare on Sagittarius does not support encoders, hence why yours probably won't work. I talked to Upas and we are looking into what can be done; most realistically, I will need to get my unit in hands to develop the needed firmware, which won't happen in a month or so. For now, if anyone is building their Sagi, avoid using the encoders at all.

Any hope for Upas to release the dimensions so we could get wrist rests made? Sure seems like the board will be incomplete without a matching rest.

The pre-flashed VIA-compatible firmware only supports 2 layers (0 and 1) - is this a memory constraint of the MCU?  Or are we able to more layers using VIA if we change the value in config.h and compile our own?

I will take a look into it, but I am almost certain that's because of the VIA and MCU constraints yes. The MCU has 64kB of flash memory which has to store both EEPROM for VIA and QMK for firmware

So I've built my Sagittarius and have used it for a while, and I wanted to get folks' feedback on the layout.

If you have a Sagittarius, have you been using it regularly? What do you think of the curved/split layout? Any trouble adjusting? Does it seem more comfortable once you get used to it?

Here's my very quick take: I'm a regular user of ergo split and Alice/Arisu-style layouts, and the Sagittarius required an adjustment period of 3-4 workdays before I kind of got accustomed to it. I still don't type as quickly and as error-free on it as on other splits after a week and half of use, but I'm getting better. There does seem to be a lot of finger movement required compared to other layouts, but there's also something kind of intertesting and almost addictive about using this layout that appeals to me. Which is why I'm curious what other folks are finding as they use it. :)

I've been using my Sagittarius for about 3 days now. I'd been using an Alice/Arisu style keyboard for the past couple of months; before that, a standard keyboard for many, many years.

I found it really comfortable to use immediately. Apart from some of the modifiers that are in different positions to my previous keyboard, it's taken minimal adjustment to get used to it.

The biggest surprise for me was the weight! I didn't really realise how much I moved my keyboard around during the day until I got the Sagittarius :-)

I'd agree, it does feel somewhat addictive to use and I'm really enjoying it.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do when (if!) I go back to the office, I'm not going to carry this one back and forward.

Great job, Gondo!

I've been using mine since the second it showed up.  I originally got into mk for ergo reasons, but after a couple years of DIY splits, I just fell in love with the more traditional customs.  I have some RSSI issues since I've used a keyboard for work for a couple decades now, and I get around it by rotating keyboards frequently throughout the week.

All of that just to provide some context on my opinions here, but I love this layout.  I think if you don't know how to touch type in the traditional sense that it would be difficult to use at first, and hopefully would encourage someone to learn.  I find that it's definitely different than an Alice layout, and requires some more hand movement, most noticably for me is reaching N and B keys.  I've optimized my layouts over the years to require less frequent movement away from the home row for the things I normally do (VIM-style arrow key mappings and mod tap ctrl/backspace where caps lock is are probably most relevant here) so I don't have any issue reaching those keys.  I find the layout comfortable and have been using it for a couple weeks straight without fatigue issues.

All in all, I think there's a lot of innovation in this layout.  I'll always love the traditional layouts, but I really appreciate seeing a more ergo-focused custom that looks great, feels good, and doesn't force an ortholinear or sub-60% layout.  For folks who can't touch type via the home row, I think it might be tough getting used to using this but all the more reason to learn imo.

I'm a bit new with this kind of thing, but do you think it'd be possible to flash it with only QMK to unlock the space for another layer or two

and if so, would you be kind enough to point me in the direction of how to go around doing something like that?

Thanks!

Got one of the extras the day they dropped and this board has not left my desk since it got here. I've never felt so comfortable typing for long periods of time, and would love to have a gaming specific layer built into this along with a function layer (and programming the constellation led's for everything) :D

If you use "pure" QMK then yes, that should free up enough flash for extra layers. I can takr a look into that later, but right now I'm concentrated into making the multiple encoders work

The stock firmware submitted does not support encoders at all, which was a miss on our part but we are looking into it.

Hey, just wondering if you made any progress on encoder support. I'm building QMK from source, so not worried about VIA compatibility, and I've tried following QMK's instructions here to add support to my layout but I've got stuck with the values for ENCODERS_PAD_A and ENCODERS_PAD_B since I don't know which pins the encoders are routed to. I tried a few random combinations but there are quite a lot of permutations and I gave up in the end  ;)

Is it as simple as finding out the correct values for these macros and plugging them in, or is there more work that needs to go into adding support to the firmware?

Thanks!

PS: I'm not trying multiple encoders or anything fancy like that, either -- just a single encoder in the very top-left socket. Should that be a relatively easy thing to do if I knew the right pad values?

EDIT: Sorry, I missed your post from April 27 saying you were still looking at it when I posted this. Follow-up question, though, since you mention multiple encoders: should it be relatively easy with a single encoder?

Hi Gondo and folks!

Seems I am a fan of Gondo boards, first the Viendi 8L and now the Sagittarius.

I have 2 questions though: which colors (bottom as well as top) are anodized and which are painted?
I believe E-white is always painted?
And: what’s up with that pretty red board, is there a way to get that one?

Cheers!  :)

Is there any timeline http://github.com/AcheronProject/Sagittarius will go live? I am late to the GB, but would love to try out this layout.

I think they’re still availble at Ilumkb and Prototypist?

Any hope for Upas to release the dimensions so we could get wrist rests made? Sure seems like the board will be incomplete without a matching rest.
Also hoping for this?  Any wrist test options or files to help build our own?

Mmm, e-white isn't painted, like powder coat, it's electrostatic coating. It's more similar to anodisation that parts gets put into a "bath". There's an article about differences, pros/cons for e-coating.

Hello-- I recently found & fell into the Sagittarius rabbit hole..

I was able to pick one up recently and after a bit of research I have 2 questions:

[0]: Were you able to get the rotary encoders added into the firmware?

> "Ok so the stock fiwmare on Sagittarius does not support encoders, hence why yours probably won't work. I talked to Upas and we are looking into what can be done; most realistically, I will need to get my unit in hands to develop the needed firmware, which won't happen in a month or so. For now, if anyone is building their Sagi, avoid using the encoders at all."

[1]: Were the PCB files ever made open source?
(I know this is something you mentioned in the GB)

Thank you!

Here's a long-time review of this keyboard for those that are looking to grab one:

5/5 Functionality - One of the best ergonomic typing experiences I've tried. I've tried Splits, Alice, and ErgoDoxes, and none compares. One of my top WPM is achieved with this keyboard
3/5 Sound - It sounds like an average keyboard.
2/5 Aesthetics - Not the greatest-looking keyboard. If it were, I would be using it every day. It's very heavy, which is a plus.

Other notes: It's a stiff typing experience on a gasket mount. I like my non long-pole linears with a stiff typing experience, so no big deal here.

It was not, no. The QMK PR for the encoders was still not merged and at this point I dont think it ever will. I tried a custom implementation to no avail because the QMK drivers for the encoders changed. might as well try again
A pessimist will tell you the cup is half empty. An optimist will tell you the cup is half full. An engineer will tell you it's exactly twice the size it needs to be.

"Each one of the top left keys are compatible with rotary encoders; you can use one, two or even all four of them at the same time" - that was the selling point that had me. But, until now, no rotary encoders support... :'( :'( :'(
