Normally all these group buy for custom keycaps are all from SP, and SP can't do PBT spacebar because of the shrinkage which only leaves ABS which I dont think it can be dyesubbed.
Where else are you going to get a place to manufacture a rainbow spacebar?

off topic - those pics got me thinking how good a dye sub full keycap set will look with black print on yellow and black print on red.
You could do white, but with a blue background as an added colour on the top. The difference being it'd be white on the sides still.

I thought of something, Since there are 13 keys before the backspace you might have to take a vote as to whether to have 7 Up Rainbows and 6 Down Rainbows, or the other way around. Some might like to start it with rainbow up and some might prefer rainbow down, and if all people receive the same amount, that doesn't allow for doing both options. Or maybe consider Backspace + 6 Up + 6 Down + their pick of up or down for the last one.

Okay so my thoughts on the design for the rainbow keys is this:
The backspace key of nyancat will have the rainbow ending at either up or down, and obviously the corresponding key follows it, so for example:
Nyancat's rainbow ends down, followed by a down to up key, followed by a up to down key, and so on however far out you want to carry the rainbow and vice versa if Nyancat's rainbow ends up.
ALSO:
It may be entirely possible to just make one key that ends the same on both sides, while having a up or down section in between, meaning we'd only have to legend 2 keys, and it'd be cheaper.

Theoretically, the single key chaining would work, but would look better with one key that went "-_-" and another that was that flipped over the x-axis, so that the rainbow went up and down as opposed to just "-_-_-_-_-_-" and so on.

I took Hazeluff's image and scaled it down, put it on some caps. Results:

First one uses the same rainbow cap all the way, the other alternates between two caps, whose both placement of the individual rainbow stripes, and the texture as whole, is alternated.
I believe there could be made a couple of adjustments to make it look better, if you have any suggestions please let me know. You could also edit it yourself, of course ;3
Oh and, make sure you view them in full resolution, or the rainbow fukka's occasionally >.>
hazeluff: Not feeling it with the lettering definitely takes away from the whole picture in general. Also like you said the cost would be much higher
Yeah this isn't a group buy for a set of all the keys from ~1234567890-= because that would be much higher in cost. If we don't legend them, then we only have to make 2 or 3 different keys, and its much cheaper.

Okay yeah that. That looks incredible. I like the separate key for the up and down wave, because it gives us variance in the stars. The stars could also be different themselves, like some of them in the different stages of the animation, giving it more realism. Other than that, the only thing I don't like is that one star under the rainbow... it probably won't come out very well in the dyesub.

It has the keyboard, and each of the 4(5) different suggestions. I'm not really good with vector graphics (neither am I with bitmap, but what can you do?), so I would suggest Hazeluff (or someone else, if they want to) convert the finalized images to svgs.

I like it ! Perhaps the rainbow on the backspace should get cut slightly, to fit within the keycap itself, but apart from that, it's great ! (>^.^)>
Edit: I should have noted on the blue-background-keys I posted earlier, that I'm not completely confident it's the exact color, but it should be fairly close to that which was stated in the OP (and used in \KL's GB). I'm especially thinking of the purple in the rainbow. Perhaps we should try with a slightly lighter purple to get some more contrast?
I don't think the little bit on the backspace matters as it's just a design we send them.
In the actual SVG it does, exactly what we send them is what they print aside from positioning. However I'd like to see the rainbow go as close to the edge of the printable area as possible, so if you want to run the rainbow on the two other keys up to the edge that works for me too. There's a lot of controversy over how dark the blue from /KL's gb is, but its a medium blue and a darker purple would provide decent contrast with it, but the darker colors aren't going to show up very well regardless since it's on blue and not white... so expect that purple isn't going to be very visible regardless.

Okay just got a reply and started a brief convo about it. She's going to run a test print of them tomorrow to see how they look. The only problem that I forgot about is that they can't dyesub white. That only eliminates the stars, but unless you want to do the stars in a different color, we're going to have to do without them. I'm not sure whether she's going to print them on blue or white keycaps... but hopefully both.Perhaps the possibility of doing a light yellow for the stars? Since that technically seems appropriate as it would be light and still show off the effect we are looking for.

She said she's going to be doing both colors, so yeah we'll get to see.Perfect, I just got a feeling the blue won't come out as nice cuz the colour will be faded into the blue while the white would look really nice with the colour being really vibrant.
Okay here are some early prototypes, the backspace is an off white because she hadn't made any in the WFJ that the top row of keys are, so while that doesn't look very good expect the colors to be like they are in the top row- very vivid and look great. She didn't have any of the correct blue keys on hand either, whether she meant just the backspace or all of the keys I'm not sure, as it appears the row 4 keys are darker than the backspace.
Keep in mind that everything is relative since its a photograph, the actual colors probably vary from what is displayed on all of our monitors. You can tell that the printing does go pretty much up to the edge on the r4 keys, but not on the backspace, and while the colors do look much more natural on the white keys, they somewhat remind me of ice cream advertisements and I can say with confidence now that I like the blue better.
Also apparently the other group buys are shipping tomorrow, and will get here on thursday... hopefully these will be included so I can take more pictures and give you a more accurate description of the colors- the grey may have come out slightly blue on the blue keys, but it seems to match the color on the beige key so it could just be a trick on the eyes.

The white one is looking the best, but I dont mind the beige one either. The cat does looks very blue in the beige key but wonder if that can be color corrected.
I made a comparison of the yellow and grey of the backspaces. They are different in the photo.I think the colour looks different because the yellow is mixing in with the blue which will dull the colour

Yea, have to say that the white looks better. My vote had been for blue before but with the keycap color and the ink fighting against each other the white seems to keep the colors intact better.

Hmm, nobody has mentioned that yet, I'll take a good look at the colors when I get the keycaps in person tomorrow, but as for the line I suppose that we could rework the SVG if everyone agrees that they want the line thinner. Tbh I think it looks fine as it is, and somewhat adds to the pixelized theme.
Yeah, I made the artwork and took ages to make the blocky lines so that it looks near identical to the original. The problem with "thinning the lines" is that I can no longer make it properly "pixelated"/8bit or would need quite some time to find a way around it. I think the printing process made the lines thicker/thinner at parts. But I think they look alright. At the moment I'm thinking white with blue stars or blue with some other color of star, probably a dark blue.

When you're just sitting from your desk, you can't really see the wave effect, so I'm going to see what the difference in cost is for only using one "neutral" 1x key instead of an up and down key... if it's going to save everyone a bunch of money, we'll probably go with that.

I love the way the rainbow is now, so it's going to stay similar to that, sorry. Max I would go is to the actual top of the tail, I'd be completely cool with that and it'd be a few mils wider. I'm not sure if I should bother Hazeluff to change it, but if he's willing its up to him. That may actually make the rainbow turn out better overall.
