Full Board Sound Test:

Thic Thock Marshmallow Switch

Marshmallow will be a linear switch that comes with delicious color combo that resembles, well, marshmallow. We offer this marvelous switches with incredibly bouncy and cushiony progressive spring from Thic Thock MP Series to enhance the typing experience as well as muting the ping sound that can be often found in many switches with their stock springs. Marshmallow itself is smooth enough that some of the private testers had given feedback that even without lubrication, it is still smooth enough to be used right away. (We are planning to send more samples out to different influencers for further reviews)

Just in case someone is interested in this, Durock is not affiliated with the manufacture or production of Marshmallow. We invest onto our own factory for creating the switch from molding to leafs and legs.

Origin

Lots of people are discussing around the topic of which factory is responsible for manufacturing Marshmallow, why is it not disclosed yet. We are very wary of this and simply because we are cautious on this sensitive topic, we would like to dedicate one huge context of this as part of the update.

As said, Durock is not affiliated with our production of the switch. So, what does this mean exactly? This means that during the whole process from designing the housing, leaf and stem, Durock had/has no part in it, nor did we use Durock’s samples or approach them at all. This is a genuine new stuff that comes straight from us. Some might ask why did we explicitly mention this in the first place? It’s because we want to let everyone who is interested in this switch to acknowledge that we are the one who is responsible for the decision making on the design and promotions, no third party was involved.

Then, let’s talk about the factory. We are in partnership with JWK. Who is JWK? JWK was responsible for manufacturing one of the most favorable switches – T1. To my knowledge, there are 2 factories who are responsible for manufacturing T1(although I might be ill informed), whether JWK was in partnership with Durock or not is not of our concern, nor we could do anything about it if it is. More importantly, the drama the shrouds around Durock or other related parties is something that has already been in the past. All parties involved have moved on and things have been sorted out on their own ways. Whether the manufacturer, or the producer, or the promoter, or whoever you think should be held ethically accountable should be you to decide.

That said, we are a merchant who approached the manufacturer – a.k.a. the factory directly and bought the necessary equipment to initiate our project. So JWK acts as an OEM – Original Equipment Manufacturer, which means they are only responsible to execute the design we handed over to them and they quoted us a fee for manufacturing the switches. That’s it on their part. Afterwards, from brand building, promotions and shipping will all be on our own hands. This also explains why we are able to brand our brand logo on the top housing of the switch instead of other brand logos.

I hope this explain clearly on the relationship between us and our manufacturer, we would also be grateful and appreciate if the following discussion will not be spun off to drama or Marshmallow-unrelated topics. Cheers!

Some quick FAQ for this section
Q: Why has the price gone up?
A: 4.8 per 10 pieces was a temporary price point. We set it to 4.8 not to bait you into biting the deal. It’s because it was an achievable price point on our part. Alpha stage sample was good, but we pushed it further, just as mentioned in Top Clack’s first impression, we were tuning, calibrating the machines to make the tolerance slimmer, in hopes of minimizing the “wobbliness”; and other refinement on the nitty gritty such as upgrading the spring, streamlining the stem and rails and etc. that will improve the overall experience. This inevitably increased our production cost and thus the adjustment of price point. To compensate this adjustment, we’ve lowered the minimum order quantity so that people who are interested only to get enough for their build wouldn’t have to waste their money on extra switches.

Q: What does minimum order quantity means?
A: It means that’s the least number of switches you must order. Let say you want 110, in the site, you would have to only add “11” into the cart, simple as that. Any order I receive from the back end that is below “6” – 60 switches will be disregarded.

Q: What so special about the fact that it is not factory lubed?
A: I believe for most of the buyers, they want to lube their switches to suiting to their own tastes. This means most of the time they would have to delube the switches before they could apply their favorite lubrications onto it. We value this kind of dedication and understand how tedious it can be when it comes to delubing switches. Thus, we offer unlubed switches on the fly. Other than that, we are confident that even if factory lubrication is not applied on it, it is still smooth enough that it can be used right away.

Q: Why was the starting date of GB postponed?
A: We want to let the influencers have the samples on hand and review them, release the reviews, hopefully during the group buy. In order to align their schedules, we figured by postponing the starting of the GB date would help public to have a greater chance on knowing more about the switches before they commit to making purchases. Although this is not a guarantee that their reviews will be out during the GB, this is the least we can do to increase the probability of public having access to the reviews during the GB period.

Q: What does V2 means?
A: We have upgraded our spring material from Korean import material to Japan. The result is that it provides firmer and better spring structure and enhance the overall typing experience.

Week 1 Updates:
Q: Why did Taeha Types received only 10 samples?
A: We ordered 200 in total, there are 70 allocated to Brian of Top Clack, 80 for full board sound test that I will be releasing soon, the rest are spread out to vendors, influencers, and some non-influencers, so we didn't have enough to give Nathan enough to make a full board review on his side, sorry guys!

Q: Why didn't you just order more?
A: As mentioned before it's "Beta" phase, although we are confident that this is becoming a thing and would proceed to GB phase soon. We were bearing a good amount of financial burden for the hidden MOQ and mold expenses. To make let say 1000+ switches is feasible, just that it will lay more burden on us and we are start up business that couldn't afford that much burden before we are making profits.

Q: How close are these samples to the final product?
A: Very close. Although the samples were adopting our V1 spring instead of V2 spring; top housing is still brand-missing.

Q: Nathan and Brian both mentioned leaf rattle, are you gonna fix this?
A: I cannot say for sure, but we are committed to bring the best product to the market as we could. Which is why the moment I heard this on stream, we have communicated with the factory with this problem already. As long as there is a way to amend this without rebuilding the mold, I think this can be a thing. There is no guarantee to which this is gonna be fixed, but this is the least I can do to make things better.

Q: Nathan and Brian both mentioned there's sweet scent with the switches, what is this?
A: This is one of the little surprises we offered for the buyers who make purchases on our site, the smell is sweet and mellow. We heard you Brian, we will just add a little into it.

Q: Did you spray the perfume into the switch directly?
A: No. We wouldn't want to compromise the switches in any way we could, we sprayed it onto the business card.

What's Next?
- Consolidate the collaborations details - done
- Send out the samples - done
- Start the GB - done
- Wait for reviews - done
- Production

Will there be a review with a whole board of these cuties before the GB period is over? I know you've sent a full board's worth to Brian, but shipping can sometimes take several weeks and GB closes at the end of the month.

What is the difference between this and alpaca linear that primekb is selling?

Seems like it's identical except color and spring.

Alpaca's are confirmed to be made by Durock and probably have their standard components of a nylon bottom, PC top and POM stem. The Marshmallows are confirmed to be made by JWK and not Durock specifically. Mallows also have a full nylon housing with a POM stem.

And to be clear, JWK is or was one of the OEMs for Durock T1 switches.

There was a post on their disco last week:
Quote
Jeffccy | thicthock.com03/26/2020
Hey guys

Due to the new development in COVID-19, HK local post office has temporarily suspended one of its services - the one that we use mainly for sending parcels.

I will be seeking other options to see if there is another way to send out the parcels, but please understand that it is a worldwide phenomenon that lockdown with regard to any kind of trafficking is happening.

If there is a way, then I will use it.
If there isn't a way - that the cost of the shipping has exceeded the original cost you all paid, I will have to...
A) wait.
B) you DMed me with your invoice number and opted for express shipping (which will be very expensive, expecting starting from 50USD, with a fulfillment speed of within 3-7 business days, depending on the clearance speed of custom in both countries)

Sorry for the bad news, I know you guys are very excited for the switches, and I hope to conclude the GB as soon as possible too. I will try my best to seek an alternative first, will let you guys know if anything.

some update:

- due to the current situation, its very difficult to fulfill all GB orders, thus here are the several things I've tried to do to mitigate the crisis.
> next week I will be shipping out the orders to proxies (EU, OCE, SG, KR, CA)
> proxies will be handling their local orders subsequently
> HK post office service is still mostly suspended; AFAIK, service for SEA countries (namely Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam) and Russia is open, I will be starting to fulfill these orders first
> US orders - I'm working out a solution, but please gimme some more time to figure out what's the best way to do this properly

Why not negotiate with a US vendor instead to act as US proxy?
Why force people to pay extra when more affordable path exists?

If I have to pay extra, I'd rather use a trusted vendor like NovelKeys.

Can we get an update on delivery to US customers? Things would have gone a lot smoother if there was a US proxy.

I am also interested in any extras for NA!

This might be my first group buy where I have to pay more to get what I already paid for. I was expecting it to happen sooner to be honest.

people shouldn't have to join discord for updates. updates should be in the thread as well.

Sorry for the late reply, but have you tried using the Discord channel? It is updated fairly regularly. As for the switches, I'm in the UK, receieved them last month, they are well worth the wait.

Will there be extras?

Okay, let me address the issue properly.

First and foremost, please accept my humble apology with regard to the lack of update in GH thread. There is simply no excuse on this and I should have been more communicative here as well as on other platforms.

Secondly, for the concern over US proxy.
I must admit I didn't do well in this regard, as I did not anticipate a worldwide pandemic would hit this year and subsequently paralyzing majority of the local post service. As mentioned ahead, we did reach out and communicate with potential US proxies, but we didn't come into a consensus on whether it would work or not; given that the post service to US was fully functional at the time the GB was held, we proceeded to start the GB without US vendor and would fulfill US orders by ourselves.
It is true that if there was a US vendor, the GB will go smoother. That's true, but there is something we just cannot have control over, something like COVID-19. We've tried to mitigate the issue by offering (1) express option, (2) grouping nearby orders and express it all at once and (3) although still in negotiation, that's what we could do right now - offering a considerably lower top-up than (1)/(2) for the parcel to get fulfilled by courier agent instead of local post office.
There are many things that we could improve on to make the GB smoother, and we hope at the moment what we are offering and doing could cater most, if not all of customers' needs.
As for asking for a US proxy to help fulfill the orders, it is theoretically plausible, but as a businessman, I must say the financial hit on this potential collaboration would probably be higher than expected if I were to not charge a single dime on every stuck order. I'm being honest on this option because from a business standpoint, it is unarguable that customers' needs are first and foremost, but it's only valid when it is under a financially sustainable environment and the way I see it right now, it does not present itself as a viable option again, if I were to not charge extra top up fee on every stuck order.

Extras.
Yes, there will be extras. Vendors like mykeyboard.eu / daily clack have their own way to handle the extras, which at this point I'm not certain whether their extras have been sold out or not. We will be stocking in a considerable amount of extras after the R1 GB orders are all fulfilled. Should you be interested in obtaining the latest news with regard to extras, please kindly subscribe to our site's newsletter or Discord server.

I'm truly sorry for the delays. It was not, even the tiniest my intention to slow this fulfillment down. If there is a way just to speed things up within an acceptable margin, I would not hesitate to opt in for that. There are so many constrains as of now and I could only hope the crisis will end ASAP. GB orders that are available for posting are all fulfilled, and with every chance I see the new available country getting updated on local post office's site, I immediately process the orders. I may not be doing the best job on handling this aftermath, but trust me, I'm pouring my heart and soul to, at least, hoping to make things right.

If you have further questions and inquiry, please do not hesitate to contact us on info@thicthock.com or Jeffccy#9211 on Discord. Again, we apologize for the inconveniences caused and hope you all stay safe and be well.

31-7-20 Update

Hundreds of west coast of US orders have been processed and pending to be delivered to local post office.
98% of the west coast of the US orders that HK Post is servicing (postal code from 81300 - 93999) right now.

Up to this point, around 70% of R1 orders have been fulfilled.

Is Canada included in this, or will we be afterwards?

Unfortunately, local post office has not resumed its service for Canada yet, when they do, we will immediately process the rest of the orders. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
