Poker keyboard - OFFICIAL PRE-ORDER / PRE-PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS

I can definitely tell the difference in feel from a plate mounted and pcb mounted board. I don't honestly see it being a huge problem though. These pokers will be excellent travel boards and I am very happy with my purchase.

Thanks again Imavzorz

Mine arrived yesterday, I wasn't home but someone got the package for me. Not sure if I like the Reds, they'll take some getting used to. Thanks for the GeekHack key!

An update. Everyone that has shipping squared away has their order on the way to them. There are probably a dozen keyboards left to send out (some I am holding for folks waiting for their living conditions to become stable).

I will be on vacation wed-sun and will be away from home (motorcycle get away).  I can make one more drop off to the post office tomorrow morning.  Those wanting alternative shipping options (non-USPS) will have to wait till I get back.

If you have any questions about your order, feel free to PM me (please include your real name for order reference).

I'm getting spoiled.  a few days on the Poker w/browns and I do NOT want to touch my IBM thinkpad's keyboard every again.  It feels bound up and tight next to the Poker.

New favorite Cherry brown keyboard is here. The function layer is easy to learn, and the size is great, not the least bit cramped. Great for carrying with my tablet laptop. Might have to tighten down the PCB; I'm feeling some vibration in the top right quadrant.

Thanks, iMav, for the organizing, efforts, and the surprise GEEKHACK key..

In my browns board there seems to be some sort of alignment or stabilization issue. There's some wobble back and forth.

I fixed it by jamming a penny underneath the rubber foot in the top-right corner, so it works, but I'm wondering if this is unique to mine.

I haven't played with the Blues yet, I'm giving the browns a thorough work out.

Just got my Poker Brown, Poker Blue, and a set of PBT engraved keycaps.

The Poker Blue and PBT engraved keycaps I bought from classifieds from iMav.

I got both of them b/c I wanted my little brother to pick from a blue or brown (it's for his birthday). He tried both and immediately picked the blue. Browns are my perfect cherry switch (tried reds, missed the soft tactile bump the browns gave me). He also didn't like the PBT engraved keycaps b/c he wants to see the legends at night.

I now have 3 keyboards!

Thanks for the 2 Geekhack keys iMav, they're awesome.

Pa Pa Pa Poker Face Pa Pa Poker Face  <- Testing new Poker.  Test passed.  This keyboard rocks.

I knew how small it was but it's still smaller than I thought it would be.  My desk looks HUGE.  What a great little board.

Enabled the arrow keys on bottom right with Fn+Space, lights on, cool.

My only complaint thus far: How am I going to cope with the delete key location?

EDIT:  Oh yeah, Thanks Imav.

For those of you getting Pokers please think about doing a review.  I have a couple linked from the Geekhack Mechanical Keyboard Guide but more the better.

I'll do a review once I get mine in about 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately, they were sent to my house even though I had asked they be sent to a different address, and I won't be back there for 2-3 weeks. At least my mom was able to stop by and bring them in, so she's had more quality time with them then I've had.  She doesn't even realize how lucky she is!

1. <3 the new avatar
2. Was thinking about doing a review
3. I noticed that the keycap labels on these newer group buy pokers look a lot cleaner than the original labels. They're smaller and more compact, and I think the font's a bit different. All in all a good improvement. I'll post pics comparing the two in my review (when I get around to one).

You mean clear keycaps, not clear cherries like this one.

Hey Zaerst, how did you obtain a Poker with clears? Didn't know these were available. Or did you modify it?

Finally got mine! It's so increadibly quiet (reds). I can barely even hear it haha. I agree with most others on here, the cherry stablelizers don't feel as nice as the Filco ones. Especially the right shift key, the others aren't as different. Stabilizer keys are a lot easier to remove though. The Cherry red board has a red space key. I was wondering if it was going to be a black switch or not. When you hit keys on the two top rows, you do have some flex, which doesn't feel too bad tbh, but it's a bit bouncy. I like the solid feel of the filco, well have to see how it affects me with more use. I don't have much more to say yet. The layout is real nice, and the main reason I got this, like many others I hope. I will do some gaming (quake games) and report back. Oh and one more thing, the key legends don't look as bad as they did in the picutures, but I still might put my old filco futura caps on just to see how it looks later on.

Yes, except I got most of my LEDs backwards. I've been too lazy to go back in there an fix them. But it works really well as an ergo clear board :)

I don't think you can open up a LED switch without first desoldering the LED.

Can you explain how you did it? I used the method in this video to swap all the non-LED switches, but I can't get enough leverage to do the rest:

Got mine (Red, w/ Set of PBT Caps), liking it so far. May post pictures later, but my camera only just started working again.
Thoughts -

Definitely a different feel than my Filco Brown, both due to the linear/tactile and the plate mount.  I know some haven't been able to notice the brown/red difference but I definitely feel the lack of a tactile bump for what it's worth.  The keyboard itself is remarkably light but there's little flex even when you twist it - nothing to worry about.  I'd say about as much as my Apple Bluetooth keyboard (maybe slightly more), which is part aluminum, and less than my Microsoft Bluetooth.  The keycaps are pretty solidly attached - harder to remove caps than on a Filco, although Cherry-style stabilizers are simpler.  I think I prefer the stabilizers on the Filco to the Cherry-style stabilizers.  And the size is very nice - smallest keyboard I've ever had in terms of desk space.  I'm happy with the construction overall apart from the lack of feet and nowhere to put the cable in transport, but those are minor complaints.

The default (non-PBT) keycaps are slightly translucent (which is nice).  The Caps Lock window is completely clear and as a result the LED comes through really brightly.  The Legends are nice and clear.  They do feel a bit different, though - a bit "toyish" maybe?  They don't quite have the solid feel that the PBT or Doubleshots have but I don't think they're a big concern.    The PBTs are nice, although the legends are hard to read unless you're in a reasonably well lit area, relevant mostly for the lesser-used shortcuts. The feel is a bit unusual - textured but still a little slick.  I don't know whether that's a coating or what; I'll see how it lasts but for now it's nice, as is the aesthetics.  The board does come with a little instruction sheet showing the shortcuts and DIP switches so that's always usable as a reference if you can't quite see the PBT Fn layer easily.  I tried using clears for the modifier keys, but the SP clears with soft-landing pads felt a little mushy on the reds, since the profiles were so low on the SP keycaps (certainly when compared to either the default or PBT Poker keys).  So I went to using almost all PBT keys and I'm liking it more - less bottoming out and it's not mushy when I do.  The drawback of the PBTs is it mutes the arrow-lock and escape-lock lights.

The main make or break with the board is always going to be the layout.  After a few days the arrow keys are still somewhat awkward, since I used them more than I realized.  Locking the right side (R-Win, Menu, R-Control, R-Shift) into arrow keys has been useful, but using "shift" has been somewhat annoying when switching back to using right shift normally; I wish they had placed a key to the right of the right shift; I guess they didn't to keep all the keys the standard size but it would solve most of my arrow key problems.  I also swapped the Ctrl and CapsLock keys which I'm ambivalent on so far, but it's a dipswitch so nothing to worry about if you're not interested.  The rest of the layout hasn't been giving me any problems, though I haven't done heavy use of the F-keys yet.  The location of the delete key - Fn-z and Fn-/ - is easily superior to a standard keyboard, and the rest have been pretty much equal.  There's no numpad on the function layer but I'm used to that anyway.  I've kept the Left Winkey as a Fn key (another dipswitch; it can also be a Fn Layer lock).

It's too early for me to judge the red vs brown but I am kind of liking the linear action with minimal force.  There's more than that in feel difference, but I'm switching from a plate-mounted brown with ABS doubleshots to a PCB-mounted red with PBT Engraved so there's bound to be a few gaps.

Overall I'm positive on it.  I don't really see a problem when I use the F-keys (F1, F2, etc) more, so the big question is going to be whether I can get the hang of those arrow keys.  I suppose I'll do an update in a couple weeks.

I certainly feel the difference from brown to red. I know reds got a lot of flak for being over hyped, but I really enjoy these. They feel very smooth, wich I love. I did some gaming on it. I've said this before, but I think you really don't notice the feel of the keys when you play. My browns WASD cluster were wearing out, and some keys like s and d (strafe jumping lulz) are nearly linear. So I really think red is a good step forward. And damn do they feel soft, it's like typing on a pillow... or cloud of boobs. :D

I agree. At first I thought the reds were a little over-hyped but after using them for awhile I have really come to like how they feel, especially after typing on them for a long time. The linear feel didn't throw me off nearly as much as I thought that they would. I think if the switch was just a tinier bit heavier it would be perfect but overall very good.

Just received mine in the mail and DAMN this thing is tiny. First impression is: completely awesome. Though it's my first mech board, so that's sorta to be expected. I have to say that for all the flak the legends on the default keycaps received on here, they really aren't that bad. Not high quality by any stretch, but more palatable to me than my old board-- an IBM KB-8923 I swapped from a school library-- which is quite surprising. The window construction is a huge eyesore, however, and I don't love the translucency of the keys when 'arrow mode' is enabled on the lower left cluster. Whether this is due to bright LEDs (which IMO are a bit too bright, especially given the electric blue color) or thin walls on the keycaps I can't say, but since I'll probably buy a new set of caps eventually this isn't too much of an issue.

In terms of layout, it'll definitely take a little while to get used to things having moved around on the function layer. That and I wish the fn key was on the left side replacing the windows key, rather than replacing R alt. But either way, fantastic board, especially coming from a long line of unsatisfactory domes. Well worth the wait.

I do want a roof for it though. Will definitely look into forming one from acrylic, unless anyone knows of a better route.

My one real concern with this board is the USB connection, as has been mentioned before. Worst case scenario I'll just epoxy the area around the connector to cement it in place.

Big thanks to iMav for organizing and hosting this.

EDIT: Just reread the manual and it looks like the L windows key can be swapped to an L function key. Sweet.

The USB connector may be my only complaint about the board.  Not crazy about the placement but not sure there is a good alternative.

After using it for a week and then going back to the hhkb I was very lost (and I sort of felt like I preferred the poker) but then I went and used the poker again and I can safely say that I prefer the hhkb over it. I do however really like red switches.

From the review, I'm interested in the first keycap set (black ones) and apparently they're from this group buy? Just wondering where you got them from iMav because I'm interested in a set.

Also are they the same set as the ones in this review?
