Okokokkookok...

Watched episode 1,  getting tingles,  self contained,  wraps up clean,  no junk plot stretched across 10 episodes.

Ya'll seen this ?  it certainly "FEELS RIGHT"  , SO FAR,  don't want 2 jinx it.

Very HDR, everything's Ultra-Shiny

finished, epi 2,  now on epi 3,

it's gud' everything's neat,    talks about all the "issues of our time" "pertinent" and "succinct"

This is precisely what made Trek TREK.

From what I have heard, it sounds like it could be good.

If they can avoid getting bogged down in "sticky" stuff like time travel, wormholes, Section 31, mirror universes, "Q", gods, magic (even if they call it something else), all those useless fabricated junk distractions, then it could be great.

And please, Dear God, NO  FERENGI, and minimal (if any) Klingons.

IF it follows the Trek timeline, they shouldn't come anywhere near Ferengi but Kingons could play a big part, especially later.

However...
Canon is always just a wormhole and alternate reality away, one of my most hated aspects of Trek.

Ferengi is the most human race in the show though, otherwise it's just a show about aliens.

Star Trek the franchise was sold, however, not included in the sale was the entire TNG story/timeline.
This is why everything is so different after Enterprise and why Picard is so far removed from TNG. So yes, if they return they will be Discovery based.

Give up seeing anything new TNG based, that ship has sailed.

Just rewatched picard s02.

I enjoy it, but there's just so much unnecessary hughmahnn stuff...

it's the same problem with all the new crops,  trek fans are experienced sci_fi consumers, they don't need drama, wrap it up in 1 maybe 2 episodes at most.

Strange new world seems extremely promising thus far,  we'll see.

I'm pretty sure that they showed up in Discovery and/or Enterprise.

I seem to remember them knocking out the crew and ransacking the ship for valuable plunder, but somebody was still awake they were thwarted.

I have watched this, and I am very impressed. But there are problems of course.

The amalgam of aliens is way out of whack, and of course the ship is a lot more shiny and intricate.

Time travel, used timidly and awkwardly in TOS, got blown up in Enterprise and became impossible to contain.

And if this predates TOS, how is it that Spock got married and got laid already? Or is marriage yet to happen?

As long as it's Trek Feel,  I don't care if the plot is canon,  Multiverse theory takes care of everything.

Reality is only as sensical as we have the processing power for. we're all dying anyway, might as well die on the edge.

All Trek made after Enterprise (?) is a re-imagining by the new owner.

You can treat it as "alternate timeline", a common Trek trope, but the reality is that canon has been loaded into a cannon and shout out an airlock.
It's not coming back.

Interesting Episode 6.

Our west wishes to eat beef and chocolate, and that purely hedonistic pursuit in so sponsors climate destruction and slavery.

This is the episode's direct symbolism, only in their case, the machine only works that way,  in OUR case it's purely an inane cultural momentum.

Ok, what is up with Sp0(k havn' so much implied-secs.   Not to be prude, but it's highly out of character, and inconsistent with his on screen persona.

Pike/ Kirk,  no problem,  but sp0(k ,  NO..

idk bout E9.. the writing, plot devices seemed unnecessary and a little sloppy given "the context of their capabilities."

Overall, still watchable,

different context, that type of episodes are clearly made for younger fans or as a form of nostalgia for the classical ones.

I can tell you that as a 15-year-old avid Star Trek fan in 1967 it was those old "fairy tale" episodes that I hated the most and I felt degraded just by watching them.

For the same reason that I hate all the "holodeck" episodes of TNG and later (and the holodeck itself, I wish that they had never even invented it).

The holodeck is an important allegory, because we already have virtualization of "living" with books/film and now youtube/games.

Well, I don''t like transporters or silly plot devices involving them, such as people being stuck in "pattern buffers", becoming split into good and evil personalities, getting healed by biofilters or beaming "energy only" etc.

It was originally probably just meant as a way to skip time when getting to/from the surface of a planet.

I don''t like transporters

I can live with them since they were canon from day 1, even though they are ludicrous, but they are exploited relentlessly. The range and availability should be limited and restricted, and "realistic" problems should be commonplace.

Scottie really jumped the shark in the 21st century reboot movie when he and Kirk transported into Enterprise from many light years away while it was in warp, but hey.

But that one is not in my canon, so it doesn't count.
(No hard/soft reboot/sequel in any franchise initiated by J J Abrams is in my canon)

Of course not, I was just looking at a ludicrous transporter phenomenon. And somewhere else I think I remember that Scottie had trapped himself in an endless loop to survive in a ship that had been derelict for a century or something.

And of course the elephant in the room is that if any sort of buffer exists, then obviously it is possible that clones could easily be made of anybody and everybody that went through the transporter.

society would also have default human recipes, which are copied out, instead of rolling the dice manually and waiting 30 years before a human gains basic competence to do anything.
