14 September 2020 UPDATE

Unfortunatly, the shipment schedule is shifted once again due to the packages with PCBs are stuck in Poland.
We are working closely with the both factory and the shiping forwarder to solve this delay. We are monitoring the situation.
You can see the screenshots of our conversations with the factory representative regarding the issue down below.

We are deeply sorry for all the trouble this delay might have caused you.

On the bright side, however, the cases and the plates are ready. We will share the photos of them in the coming days.

It would probably be a good idea to make posts on the MechanicalKeyboards, MechMarket, and MechGroupBuys subreddits for some extra visibility. I haven't seen any for this GB there yet.

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question -- If I get an extra PCB, that means I can switch between Alpha and Beta layouts?

Yes, this can be done by replacing the PCB.

Nice. I like the layout options. Will the case be made in the Ukraine in its entirety? CNC, cerakoting etc?

Yes. The body will be completely made there. POM plate is most likely in Italy.

Would it be possible to add renders of the all the available color options? I think that might help people who are on the fence decide if they want to buy.
Also, it might be a good idea to show keycaps with legends instead of blank ones to eliminate confusion about the layout.

This is a variant of the layout similar to CandyBar. but with a different approach. And with a new design solution

I'm surprised. It's common to ask permission before running a clone or "inspired by" design like this - see all the Alice clones. Permission was sought and granted.

Frankly IDGAF. It was a novel design, and you've duplicated 90%+ of it. It's not like you did another riff on a TKL.

I wonder what the reaction would be if TKC announced Infinikey Hyperfuse tomorrow...?

There’s only so many possible layouts. If people had to ask permission for every keyboard with a similar layout, it would basically be every single new keyboard. Frankly I don’t see any issues, the candy bar GB is over and even if not, you don’t have a patent on a layout. He already said he was inspired by the candybar and gave credit there, I don’t see any issue.

Fact of the matter is there's only so many ways to design a rectangular keyboard. The layouts are the same yes, but there are many new keyboards with the same layouts but other changes.

So because a 40% with a numpad exists, it's not ok to design another one? No one has to get permission from the designer of the first 40%, 60%, 65%, 1800, etc. in order to design a new one of those.

Besides, the case design is different, the mounting points are different, the spacebar layout options are different, there's an indicator LED, the color options are different, it's Cerakoted instead of anodized, and even the aluminum alloy the case is made of is different.

It's ok to have options in the market. The layout the Candybar uses isn't patented, and this keyboard isn't a clone of that anyway.

Bruh, did you even look at the IC? Don't come here with that attitude of "idgaf". Inspiration is inspiration. If TKC had a problem, wouldn't they have contacted when the IC was up? Not now, when the GB is running.

Those boards date back to the 80s and TKC is based in the US. If they were patented, the patents expired after 20 years.

Funny how the goalposts moved from right to legal in short order. I never once said it was illegal for you to do what you are doing. Just that it's not right.

I like your company and products, don't get me wrong, but I disagree with your notion that someone using the same layout as one of your group buys should ask your permission first. I have no way of checking, but I'm willing to bet you were not the first person/group to think of a 40% keyboard with a numpad.

There are substantial differences in this keyboard and your own, I don't think every single new keyboard design should have to "ask" permission from other keyboard designers just for using the same layout.

I think it's best if we stick to the topic at hand, which is this group buy.

Obviously, TKC is allowed to believe that they should have been asked for permission, that is their right. However, it is irrelevant to this group buy and we should try to stay on topic. I believe some people had requested renders of the proposed colors if possible.

Why are you so bitter? This is a really bad look for you. You should be happy someone said they were inspired by your design. Why would they need permission from you to do design a different keyboard?

Not to be one to call people out, but did either of you talk to:

PyrooL: https://github.com/PyrooL/smallpaw
BubaThePig: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/95qxa0/made_my_first_keeb/
The creator of the GNAP 4x4 + 4x4: http://www.40percent.club/2018/05/gnap-4x4-4x4.html?m=1
Hisfantor: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/4zdnpk/an_idea_of_a_40_board_with_numpad/

Or anyone else who had this idea long before Candybar or Lyra?

While I love TKC, and they may feel justified in believing that someone should have checked with them, this is by no means a novel design. Also, as others have already pointed out, neither the layout nor the case are identical.

The idea of a 40% + numpad layout has been discussed in the past: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/4zdnpk/an_idea_of_a_40_board_with_numpad/

And the general concept existed in various forms long before:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/6hxcy3/40numpad_before_it_was_cool/

I think it's time to move on.

Sorry if this comes across as mean-spirited, but I thought this quote from Terry on the TKC "about us" page was funny in light of this thread:

Not sure I see the humor. Cloning is the opposite of diversity.

LOL I sure hope this TerryMatthews clown isn't affiliated with TKC, because this is not a good look.

oh my god, how can you be so tone deaf, the dude made a keyboard because candybar doesn't support his own language well (not enough alphas) and had to ask permission? Even though he "copied" only the general idea and credited the candybar as inspiration? literally anything else was made from scratch, unbelievable

Candybar also has an additional vertical row for numpad mods.

Edit: Looks like I hadn't even considered some of the possible layouts, heh.

Looks like someone is insecure in their own product.
"Extras haven't even gone up yet", they're more concerned that your board is better and more attractive and therefore will impact sales, than he is upset that "you didn't ask for permission". :)

If he is indeed representative of TKC, this ridiculous stance of believing they "own" the 40%+num pad layout and others should ask permission from them to use the layout has affected my interest in their extras and their other products far more than anything else.

Edit:
MOQ looks like it has been reached, I'm super excited for this board.

Looks like you all are evil cloners of a project from 2013:eek:  (a project which was itself inspired by another project - hmm, I'm noticing a pattern here...)

It started out as a crazy idea in IRC to build a 40% keyboard with a tenkey. However though the information in this thread ( http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=40567.0 ) I decided to attempt to build said keyboard. I would like to give a shoutout to CPTBadAss for helping me with this project so far and Flip for naming it. Also metalliqaz for inspiring me with his awesome Epsilon case design.  I thought I would share my progress here.

Terry, I suggest focusing your efforts on something more fruitful than calling people out for things that your own company has done.  As you're seeing here, that's a surefire way to direct the sleuthing power of the internet right back in your face, which rarely ends favorably.  ;)  Take the kudos and praise from your fans and put that energy into making something even better (which yet more people will take inspiration from :-* ).

Now all of you get off my lawn and get back to talking about this GB!

I've registered for this GB last week but haven't received any email confirmation yet.
Is this normal/when are we supposed to receive email?

I don't want to re-register as it might give you wrong total order amount.... Thanks

Okay then. I just want to make sure my order is recorded, so it would be good/reassuring to have the email confirmation ie saying order received, invoice will be send after 22nd March or something like that....

Alexbarb,

Confirmation emails are standard practice for online purchases. I understand that you will respond to people's questions by email, but multiple people have already been confused by the lack of a confirmation email.

To make sure everyone who submits an order form is confident that their order was received, I think you should make sure they receive a confirmation email soon after submitting their form. If we don't know that our order went through until receiving an invoice after the GB period ends, some of us will be worried.

I'm sure confirmation emails are built in to Google Forms anyway, so you shouldn't have to do any extra work aside from enabling the feature.

If you google the colourway you can see the exact colours of each colours as they are standard cerakote colours. The yellow one really pops.

It seems that the issue with Cerakote is that it's appearance due to structure largely depends on light and application method.
I looked up the samples on each colouring based on these links:

Cobalt H112:
https://www.cerakote.com/project-gallery?htids=Cobalt%20H-112

Blue Titanium H-185:
https://www.cerakote.com/project-gallery?htids=Blue%20Titanium%20H-185

Polar Blue H-326:
https://www.cerakote.com/project-gallery?htids=POLAR%20BLUE%20H-326

Pink Champagne H-311:
https://www.cerakote.com/project-gallery?htids=PINK%20CHAMPAGNE%20H-311

Bright Purple H-217:
https://www.cerakote.com/project-gallery?htids=Bright%20Purple%20H-217

Robin’s Egg Blue H-175:
https://www.cerakote.com/project-gallery?htids=Robin%27s%20Egg%20Blue%20H-175

Corvette Yellow H-144:
https://www.cerakote.com/project-gallery?htids=Corvette%20Yellow%20H-144

Please note that in the gallery they have amateur pictures. That's why they look so different. The truth is somewhere in the middle or on the product page

It's made of POM obviously. AFAIK, no separate plates have been made from this material, but entire keyboards, like Sirius were.

Interesting choice for plate. I wonder how this would feel compared to the usual materials. Can't wait to have this.

There was either a mistake with the original invoice, or there's a mistake with the current one.

Original one was $362 (keyboard plus extra PCB+plate plus shipping)

Current one is $378 (keyboard plus extra PCB+plate plus shipping plus 5% PayPal fee)

I don't really mind dealing with a PayPal fee, but I'm confused because there wasn't a fee before, and there is a fee now that the invoice is being sent from your business partner.

This is not an overpayment. Alex wrote that it includes + 5% paypal .. but since he had experience with PayPal, he was not the first 20 to order ... and right now they have problems ... but everyone will pay + 5% fee playpla

Now I'm even more confused. I received an updated invoice from you that does not include the 5% PayPal fee, but now you're saying there's supposed to be a fee. Which is it?

He simply included the fee already in the price of the goods .. but it should be done differently since the 5% commission is automatically calculated by the paypal itself... he gave me the price already from the financial institution and I included for some lots another 5% .. that's why it happened but we are correcting the invoices .. excuse me for misunderstanding

Price (inclusive of PayPal fee):
$260 for case + PCB and black POM plate (Alpha or Beta) + fasteners
$65 for extra PCB and plate (Alpha or Beta) + fasteners

Shipping (inclusive of PayPal fee):
$37 worldwide with track (from Ukraine)

If you received or settled an invoice with a fee of a large amount, inform. This will be fixed.

Geez, I'm also bummed I missed this. The left-hand numpad is killer.

If there's no chance of getting in now, I'd also love to get on a waitlist for any extras! 😬

This might be stupid question, but with this keyboard, if I were to order keycap set, which style/configuration should I order to make them all line up nicely ie no mismatching rows?

You'll need the base kit of whatever set you're ordering, plus a 40's kit (since this is a 40% layout), and possibly a numpad kit (depending on if the base kit includes numpad keycaps or not). For example, GMK sets include the numpad in the base kit, but KAT sets have a separate numpad kit.

I've also bought the Beta and the kits I have been looking at are usually alphas, 40s, and spacebars as well as maybe the numpad kit if it's not part of the base kit.

I picked up Space Cadet & plan to check, Primekeyboards too; TKC's keysets are typically great for this keyboard format. Just about all Keyreative keysets (KAM & KAT) provide inexpensive support for this MKB profile type too.

Numpad, 40s mods (twice have more than 1 40% mkb), blue alphas, gray alphas), accents...
the accents were optional; if you want the standard 6.25 spacebar, you'll need the spacebar kit.

Hello!

Despite all of the difficulties (mainly with the delivery delays due to the global pandemic), we are doing our best to make Lyra a reality. Delivery times have to be rescheduled.

We have tested the sample PCBs and fixed some minor mistakes. The whole PCB batch should be shipped out in a couple of days.

Cases and plates have been put into production.

We estimate that the shipping process for Lyras should start at the beginning of September.

Once again, we are really sorry for the delays and any inconvenience this could have caused.

All the best,
Team Lyra

Hi everyone.

They've been posting photos in the Discord. I do think the updates should be posted here as well, but they're definitely not ghosting us.

I've attached screenshots of the most recent photos they've posted there (the last one is cobalt), and they've said the photos of the rest of the colors will be posted in the next few days.

That's reassuring. But this does not mitigate the fact that they are keeping us in the dark here, don't ship the Lyra for months and then come up with another project. Plus, we were promised that photos will be ready in "the coming days" in September and they are posting them now... What's up with that?

I'm neither designer nor runner of Lyra's GB. I just help alexbarb with case painting and logistic.  And all GB participants know about it, because they are notified in discord. They are informed either from me or from alexbarb. You can have the information sent by mail, in private messages or in discord channel.

Frankly IDGAF. It was a novel design, and you've duplicated 90%+ of it. It's not like you did another riff on a TKL.

I wonder what the reaction would be if TKC announced Infinikey Hyperfuse tomorrow...?

Just a warning to you all on SantiGo Customs and all the issues the Lyra GB has had with him: https://redd.it/nfnbau

Basically SantiGo has full control of the Lyra GB but publicly denies that and has been promising shipping "next week" for 5 months but refuses to show any pictures of all the finished boards, packed, with shipping labels like he's claimed.

He's also threatened to bulk ship all the boards he was paid to do packaging/fulfillment for to the original GB designer to "teach him a lesson" by forcing him to pay customs or risk having the shipment detained.

Frankly IDGAF. It was a novel design, and you've duplicated 90%+ of it. It's not like you did another riff on a TKL.

I wonder what the reaction would be if TKC announced Infinikey Hyperfuse tomorrow...?

Long time lurker and I made an account **JUST** to say this wildly unnecessary freak out was hilarious, and that if you ever do a second GB for this board I’m super in, 95% because it looks gorgeous, but also low key 5% to spite this absurdity haha

If you're still feeling so confident I'm sure there are certain people or person who wil happily take your money to give you an exclusive R2 spot receiving the exact same as R1 buyers

Jusat curious what ever happened to this? I never saw that it actually shipped and its October 2021 right now. I am not involved in the GB, just a curious onlooker.

Everyone got scammed, I believe some boards were sent out in Ukraine to mates of the scammer but everyone else was left with nothing. A couple of guys from the discord have started producing they're own with the open source plans.
