Phantom/87-key acrylic case that can fit a QFR/Filco would be awesome. Those are looking like they're going to GB already. Cheaper Aluminum chassis would be nice.
Phantom 91-key case would be awesome!
Q: Gon how did you get started in keyboards?

Do you write all your own English or do you use Google Translate or something? :P
Do you write all your own English or do you use Google Translate or something? :P
GON, your English is great. Keep up the good work! I know if I went to OTD or KBD, I'd have very poor Korean and have to use Google Translate :D
Your English is a bit choppy, but VERY good compared to some of the English I've read. :) Some of your sentences don't quite flow, but the idea is there. The idea is more important than the flow of the sentence, in my opinion.
Do you own all these CNC machines yourself, or do you have connections to shops that manufacture your designs for cheap? It seems like you can get prototypes made easily.
I see. If you don't do prototypes inhouse yourself, then they must be very expensive for each of your new cases. I have a few 3D case designs, but getting the final prototype manufactured is between $500 - $1000+ :(
I think this was already asked, but will those GT cases fit a poker?
I think this was already asked, but will those GT cases fit a poker?
I'm afraid but I gotta tell you "No" as for now...
However, if many GH members want it, I will consider it. ;)

MANY GH members have pokers/gh60's and probably will buy the poker II. I'm pretty sure you will sell a lot!
GON,
just from the pictures i have seen already, you make lovely work.
are you open for orders right now? or is there an estimated start date that we can order? :)

Hi GON,
You have some very nice keyboards. I'm still very new to all of this, but I saw one of your tenkeyless cases (http://www.kbdmania.net/xe/files/attach/images/1058956/900/637/006/e07c7cf12f8667aa398bc37b468154dd.JPG) and I like it very much. Can you tell me what kind of PCB will fit?
Thank you
do you have any pictures of fully assembled keyboard with that case ?

The combination of Acrylic (I think it's plastic of some kind) with the Aluminum plate is sublime. From the pics it's so highly finished like it came out of a customized factory specializing in Keyboards.
I think I may buy one from you....... soon.
The mid part is PolyCarbonate, which is still more difficult for CNC machining than acrylic but has still much more durability!
Plastic bullet-proof glass is made of a kind of polycarbonate.
Do you have any plans to create a full-size keyboard? Maybe 104 or 108 keys?
Do you have any plans to create a full-size keyboard? Maybe 104 or 108 keys?
I don't have to make full-sized ones yet.
But who knows... if many want it. ;)

Because you design keyboards to fit existing pcb's like Poker, Pure and such, why not design a Full size keyboard because they're much rarer than TKL's and 60%'s?
If it can fit a Filco, Cherry or Ducky pcb, then you may have a unique product to offer here on Geekhack. If you are the FIRST to offer a brand new case to fit existing keyboards I think a lot of interest and money may come your way.
I've seen your work and it's as close to perfection as it gets, hence why not expand it to offer FULL-size love for TENKEY enthusiasts.
Do you have any plans to create a full-size keyboard? Maybe 104 or 108 keys?
Price difference wouldn't be too large. £20 extra for aluminium and not very much for machining. I seriously doubt it would add more than $50 and considering it'll be a $400+ keyboard anyway it isn't too much to add.Do you have any plans to create a full-size keyboard? Maybe 104 or 108 keys?
Full size is not as popular on GH or Korean forums. If not many gets sold, then price for each one is higher. And cost for material and manufacturing costs are also higher since it's larger.

Also, just because it's less popular doesn't mean it'll sell less. I guarantee there are quite a lot of people who have been waiting for a full size custom and would jump on any opportunity to get one.
I think, what I make should be beautiful so that others can believe my Works will be great just because GON made it.
(Of course I made some ugly ones too because customers wanted me to make so.)
If a good full-sized custom PCB is introduced, then I will consider to design it. ;)
I won't make it rather than I make an ugly one. ;)

Totally understandable. Design integrity has to shine through.
If no Full size keyboard will be done, how about one of your unique 60% designs for Geekhackers here?
You choose the material, Polycarbonate, Acrylic, Aluminum, Stainless Steel, maybe even a Lacquered Wood Veneer?
Should make more 75% boards :O

In the picture... most of them are semi-glare.
And red on, the third from the GON NS 38GT Pink is non-glare, and the red one /w red bolts is a glare one.
But its hard to distinguish in the picture...
And, even though you choose semi-glare, it sometimes comes out more like non-glare or full-glare.
Anodizing is very hard to make all the same at anytime...
But this little arbitrariness makes my customers' cases Unique. ;)
(Hard to find exactly the same ones...)
Here's a question. Was there a large price difference in getting a thin PCB manufactured? I have a few PCBs from different batches, and they're noticeable thinner and bend more compared to other Korean PCBs or our inhouse Phantom, ergo-dox, and GH60 PCBs. If it doesn't cost too much, have them made thicker or up your specifications on future batches?
Functionally, it won't make a difference since they're mounted on plates, but it'll still reflect higher quality and a more rigid PCB.

Your cases are amazing.
I hope they will be available for a while, so I can save enough money to buy one.
I have one question.
That black 38GT in the middle column.
It must have a special purpose. May I ask what it's for?
Well, that question should be asked to my customer, not me. ;)
I think he would use it as a specialized gaming controller.

what is the blue 75% housing in the bottom left? It looks like it may be for a MX-Mini, but the modifier row has weird wide holes.
How do we program your PCBs?
One thing I can't do for custom keyboards is programming from scratch. I think you'll have to make a guide on this since it seems more people are starting to get more of your PCBs/housing. Anyone on GH (excluding GON of course) have a fully built ps2avr that can comment, or am I the first?

Thanks for the link. It shows the maxtrix and has precompiled firmware to download. But how do I flash the firmware onto the controller using the ISP header?
Can a 38GT support a winkeyless setup, i.e., a "1.5 / 1 / 1.5 / 7 / 1.5 / 1 / 1.5" bottom row?
GON, is this just your personal one ?
http://ysymidi.blog.me/10127492530
i saw in Zenuty's thread.
What resistor package size do we get for the switch LEDs?
Also can I buy a preflashed loose atmega controller chip from you?
You may not know, but I bought an A.87 with nothing soldered to it (similar to WFD), how to I get it to work since I'm not sure I can just plug it in and load firmware to it like a phantom. I'm not very good with software stuff :(
Even though I burn chips with firmware, shipping is at least $24 to the US... too high just for a chip.... ;(

I know it's a fixed shipping rate like everywhere else so does it mean he has to purchase something else to help make that $24.00USD more palatable?
I would get an extra pcb and/or plate bundled with that chip...... just my own personnel 'stupid' recommendation here.
Hi Gon,
I am looking to try Ergo clear switches, but im a noob with modding and stuff.
How does it work? I send you all the stuff? or I can buy stuff from you, stuff as in springs, switches, boards etc.
i am also looking to get a new board, not modding mine own ones. how do i start? you have any recommendations? maybe you have board for sale, switches and all the rest? just not a full size.
My girlfriend is in Seoul, so shipping stuff isnt a problem.
Thanks, Poom

No, only standard winkey layout is supported at the bottom row. ;)

Gon was answer about this problem :)
Dear GON
I would like to ask:
1) How could I reprogram 38GT PCB? I am new to this board and so lost with many found results on this forum
2) Would you be able to design a board with SMD LED instead of normal LED?
Really appreciate if you could reply. Thanks
I guess you could say he's...
GON
Seriously,
does anyone know where has he gone?
I've a project which he hold and I haven't heard back from him for a while
Been trying to reach him since the start of the year
Hope he's all fine...
He usually takes a day or two to respond to a pm, but he did respond to mine a couple weeks back, fwiw.
Do you have pcb mounted switches?
How would I do for ordering a different switch for spacebar?
If I sent you used clear stems, would you use those instead of new clear stems for a custom board?

No problem. ;)
Hey GON and GON fans! :))
I've been starting to really want a good programmable board, and so I just started to do some research, but I'm still quite lost. I would like to be able to fully remap all keys for several Fn layers, and also being able to experiment with dual-role keys (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=41685.0) would be a nice plus.
What are the programming capabilities for GON's NerD TKL? Are we able to configure which keys act as the Fn keys, or are those hardcoded to specific keys on the board? Also, what is the name of the controller for this board, or is it something specific that GON's PCB uses? I ask because I'm curious whether I'd be able to play with custom firmwares like the ones that Hasu has been developing. If anyone can please point me to some instructions/utilities/thread for programming the NerD TKL that I could take a look at, that would help out a lot.
What are the main differences between GON's NS 87 and NerD TKL? The one thing I noticed that the NerD supports both side and switch LEDs at the same time.
As long as the programmability is there, I'm really leaning towards trying one of GON's NerD TKL boards. GON's boards just look beautiful, I am a sucker for shiny LEDs, and I've read a lot of praise from GHers from my searches.
Hope GON or someone else can please help me out with my noob questions. Thanks! :thumb:

Hi naasfu,
Here is an introduction for NerD TKL
http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/pcbs/60-nerd-tkl-by-gon.html
NerD uses NerD controller, it has been developed by me. So the controller is only implemented on NerD PCBs.
NerD has 1 Normal Layer + 2 Fn Layers that user can edit, 3 layers in total.
NS87s were assembled PS2AVR PCBs, and now discontinued.
I assemble GON NS NerD TKL as a substitute, which has more powerful functions.
Powerful and Easy(Really easy...) H/W Macro is one of the best advantages of NerD.
And you will be able to find many other advantages...
But one thing, it will take about 2-3 months for me to release NerDy GUI.
Users need NerDy GUI to edit keymaps.
Hey GON, I can't find it on your site, but is there the option to purchase a keyboard without the switches?
I noticed the GON NS 38 PCB was put back up, and was wondering if it came with the controller SMD parts already soldered on, or do we need to get them separately.
Hi Gon. I have two questions about the HS GH60 case.
1. Is the top actually a plate -- so do I have to use plate mount switches?
2. Do all the anodizing options come with those big metal feet?
What is the turnaround for a gon ns 87 assembled?
What is the turnaround for a gon ns 87 assembled?
According to his site, it should around 4-10 weeks.

And I don't think GON is making ns 87's anymore.. I believe he's only making NerD 87s now ;)
I'm curious, any chance you could expedite a build for a fee?
What is the 'dimming' mode for the mx-mini? is that the same thing as the 'breathing' mode for the shine 3? or does it mean that the level of brightness is adjustable?
Hello gon! I'm having trouble using your website. Every page takes upwards of 45 seconds to load.
How much would it cost me to have a Black anodized Mx - Mini Board shipped to Canada..
Would need PCB, Case, Switches, Leds for in switches and side leds (red) and resistors. Also stabilizers. Red switch stickers.
I can do all soldering and assembly myself. Just need all components.
Hi guys,
I am super noob (chobo T T) in custom keyboard and thinking to get an assembled Nerd TKL.
I was browsing and saw this photo:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/VpEgG5v.jpg)
I am wondering how do I choose from the option menu on the website or is that like a super special version?
if yes, then can I select the colour for the Acrylic part as well as the 2 layers colour on top?
thanks :D
Does anyone have a 'default' .map file for a GON NS 38 GT? Had some troubles mapping.
How your new Nerd keyboards can be programmed in the meantime you develop a gui?
The bare pcb comes with some preloaded key map?
What's CLI?
When do you think the gui will be ready?
Hi GON, will you release a NerD version for MX-Mini anytime soon?I want one too!
Hi GON, will you release a NerD version for MX-Mini anytime soon?
Is it going to cost me extra if I want matching colors on the screw bolts for Nerd TKL and LED under the ESC key?
I started adding LED's to my board, i added 4 before adding more. Do you have to turn on LED's or are they on by default? How do i turn them on? maybe i bought something wrong? :(
shame. can you list the differences between the NerD and the older PS2AVR?Hi GON, will you release a NerD version for MX-Mini anytime soon?
I don't think I will release MX-MINI version of NerD soon. ;)

seems like the NerD is quite surperior to the PS2AVR, especially in regards with LED lghts and customizing key maps. a couple more questions:
- what are the different Shift and Backspace layouts?
- can you provide MX Whites instead of the more standard switches?
sorry, i'm asking about the difference between, for example, 2.25 left shift vs 1.25+1. it isn't very apparent to me from looking at the pictures, nor can i find similar layouts on the internet for comparison
thanks for being patient, i'm still relatively new to custom keyboards and have yet to grasp all the little nuisances

2.25x left shift is that of standard US(ANSI) layout.
1.25x + 1x left shift + ISO is that of Euroupean(ISO) layout.

Hi Gon, Do you know when the nerd 60 PCB will be available on your site?
Hi Gon, Do you know when the nerd 60 PCB will be available on your site?
I've not "officially" released NerD 60 PCBs because due to its limitation on the number of the keys, NerD 60 has more need for GUI(kemap changing tool) that I will release in a month or two.
But it doesn't mean NerD 60 has any key code included in standard 104 layout.
Here you can see keymap layers(Normal, Fn1, Fn2) for NerD PCBs.
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=57751.0
As you can see, even NerD 60 includes all the keys in its 3 layers.
If you still want it, contact me. ;)

Fit a A.87?
Cheers
George
Couple more quick questions:
1) Have you stopped doing the GON NS 87 case with semi-glare?
2) Are you going to be discontinuing them at any point?
OK - how long do I have to order one?
Could you put it aside for me? I just need to test something and then I'll order (by Sunday at the latest)

Hmm - looks like there are some issues with my A.87 pcb that I can't iron out myself in a hurry...
Seeing as a NerD TKL PCB and one of the acrylic cases is actually less money than one of the A.87 compatible cases - a couple of questions about the NerD TKL if I may:
1) Is there a reason that orange LEDs aren't available? I have some of these (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-x-Rectangle-Orange-LED-2x3x4mm-1st-Class-Postage-UK-/290933176102?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item43bcf7f726") which have a forward voltage of 1.8 - 2.2v so I'm guessing the 680 ohm resistors would be best if the board supports them.
2) I see on the product page for the PCB that the keymap editor isn't available yet. As standard, does it support this layout:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/tAQFK.jpg)
3) If it does support that layout, which key/s are the fn keys and what is the fn layer?
That's it for now!
Thanks again GON - most appreciated :)
GK
Thanks for getting back to me. So with a Winkey layout (1.5 - 1 - 1.5 - 7 - 1.5 - 1 - 1.5) does the right-hand 'windows' key (the 1x key) act as the fn key? Does the board come pre-programmed with this layout or another layout (a 6.25 spacebar for example)
Thanks again
GK
Great - thanks again.
Last question - I'm trying to decide on what colours to go for in terms of the case. Do you have any pictures of the "Orange (Transparent)" acrylic that is available for either the plate or the mid section? (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/housingscases/82-acrylic-housing-for-nerd-tkl.html)
Cheers
GK
OK thanks. Fairly certain I'm going to go for black top and bottom. Just need to decide on either orange plate and mid or transparent orange top and mid.
Would the orange that isn't transparent let any light through? If not then I might have made my decision :)
Hi GON
One last question (I hope)
On the NerD PCB page at the bottom of the page it gives the option for side LED colour. Does this mean that they are included in the price of the PCB or would they need ordering separately? (i.e If I selected Orange would I actually receive 33 orange SMD LEDs or not?)
Thanks
George
has information about the Gon NerD Ergo been released? I saw this in the NerD Gui youtube videos and was very interested.
What resistors are recommended to use for white LED's on the PS2AVR mx-miniU? In-switch square 2x3x4 white led's will be used.
I want them to be extra bright!
Hello GON,
Can you make your 60% acrylic case support ISO? or is that not possible?
thanks :)
Margo
PS. The nerdy gui is amazing.
I don't think very many :)
Plus I realised the GON [CTRL]ALT 60 supports ISO, so I will just use that. I just wanted to build a little ISO board :)

Wait... so that means my order hasn't been shipped yet?! My payment was accepted 15th May and it's 19 August today....
Btw I sent you a mail asking the same question...
Ye but latest version 1.2 was released like 3rd August...Not sure where you're located.. but when I got my tracking number from Gon, the kbd was at my house on my doorstep in 3 or 4 days. You might not have to wait as long as you think!
Oh well 1-2 more weeks then.

470R is OK for Switch-Backlight LEDs of NerD, but the size should be 0805[2012 metric].

This is what it's like when you want an artist to produce a piece of work for you. Don't expect tight deadlines otherwise go to Filco, Leopold or Realforce and buy their product which is already made for you to pick up straight away.
I too had to wait for his work BUT it was definitely worth the wait. Makes you appreciate all the finery of his craftsmanship when it sits in front of you ready to be plugged into the back of your PC.
Like all artists they operate at their own times and frequency, in fact I'm starting to wonder if GON is getting sick and tired of producing the same product through his studio all the time? I certainly hope not because I want to buy some more of his keyboards with some brilliant colours applied.
It takes a while because (I think) this is not GON's day job, and he gets more orders than you think. If you're worried about not being able to build it without issue (like me, but I'm gonna try), you'll have to wait a while. It takes a few hours to build just 1 keyboard.
But it's way worth it.

Yeah, I tried ordering a keyboard from his site but it got stuck on 4D secure (froze) and never went through. GON why did you step away from using Paypal when it always worked in the past?
Hi Gon,
I need some clarifying on the LEDs for the NerD 60. How do the Caps and numlock LEDs work? And also what about the side LEDs? If you have a photo that would be great thanks ;D
And lastly is the PCB plate mount or PCB mount? What plates are compatible with the PCB? Thank you so much and sorry for all the questions :-[
As far as I know, no Korean custom kbd adopts Frame/Plate mount stabilizers.

So the cherry stabilizers you're selling should be fine?
Is there any way to buy polycarbonate screws for your keyboards? I can't find any M3x12mm ones anywhere! Maybe there is better availability in S. Korea?
Maybe something like this?Show Image(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51LstE7Om6L._SX342_.jpg)
Hi gon!
Just clarifying, your universal plate fits the NerD 60 yeah? Also i want to add one to my order and have it shipped together, so how would i get that done? And would the shipping be cheaper since it'd all come in the one box?
I just placed an order but haven't sent money through PayPal yet. Please let me know readjusted price so i can pay :)

I think if you got in touch with Matias, a GON designed Matias ALPS board is a definite possibility.
And I'd totally buy one.
Hi i'm planning to change one of my MX switches using this guide: Since my GON Nerd TKL has LED's attached on each switch, am i breaking something by removing the switches the same way as he did?
Is there any way to decrease the inclination of my GoN Crystal TKL? (Are the feet removable?)
I'm trying really hard to figure out how to connect my keyboard via bluetooth o.o
I set the keys for bluetooth toggle and connect
EDIT: Figured it out.... I think xD
I have both dip switches up and I press the connect key then search for it on my android device but for whatever reason it wasn't showing up for me
GON:
I heard about your keyboards on /r/MechanicalKeyboards a while back, and have been doing some research to find out more. I love your NerD boards, and saw on your site that you offer a fully built NerD 60%. I was wondering if there are any pictures of the 60% and what kind of layout the board uses. Thanks for the help!

Try Off and On again with your phone. And Off and On again with your NerD. Then try again. ;)
I also use NEXUS5 and I'm 100% sure it works. ;)
By default, BT Connect is "Fn2 + C", BT/USB Toggle is "Fn2 + B"
Thanks for the quick answers, and sorry for asking a question with such an obviously available answer! When I was looking at the customization options, I saw that you could mod the springs on any of the switches down to 50g, but I was wondering if it would be possible to go down to 45g upon request to get a more "ergo clear" type switch? Ive been interested in this type of switch and have been looking for a way to get my hands on a board with them. Once again, thanks for the quick responses! :)
Clears /w 45g springs will not work properly. 55 is the minimum for Clears, in fact.

Will the Clears work with 120g springs? If not, what maximum spring strength (don't know what else to call it) are you able to use with any Clear Cherry Switches?

No they will place their own orders at my website.
They will directly make their payment to me.
I will ship the items directly to them.
Each of them can choose their own color.
They can pick other items to combine shipping. ;)
5 of moq is just because of CNC-machining not because of anodizing. ;)

Look at the back of the PCB, there would be silk print for it.
Left one is for Filco position, and the right is for CHERRY position.

Can I still order NerD TKL PCB for KMAC and plate?
Hello,
I was wondering if the White NerD 60 PCB is able to support the case and layout of the KBT Pure pro. Also, does the PCB come with the diodes and other components already soldered on? I am looking for a 60% pcb that I can just solder switches into and go.
Thanks!

Hi,
NerD 60 PCB is compatible with most 3rd party Poker housings.
But I can't give you an answer to your layout question because I don't know the exact layout of Pure pro.
The PCB will be shipped /w controller SMD parts soldered and pre-flashed.
You will have to add optional soldering for diodes.
it's not compatible with pure pro layout
Hi GON,
I intend to build myself a NerD 60 with a nice clear acrylic case, problem is I live in the netherlands(EU).
as the Customs Tariffs from outside the EU are incredibly steep I was wondering whether you have any resellers in the EU e.g. Germany or the UK?
my main concern is that over a purchase of around 200$ I would have to pay 39$ for shipping and as soon as it hits the dutch borders,
A backpay on VAT ((21%) over the entirity), customs fare (again over the entirity). so If you would have a reseller of any kind in Europe that would be of epic help to me!:)
I am very much looking forward to your reply,
regards, Stinus

Hi UberStinus,
I don't declare full-value when shipping out the items, if the buyer told me to cover his items with insurance.
This is why I don't include invoices and don't use Logo-marked box.
I just ship in a flat(light brown) box /without any invoice, and declare it as a GIFT.
This will not make any problem to you. ;)
Contact me if you need any further help.
Thanks,
GON

I'm very glad to hear that, then I'm off to the second hurdle.

For newbs (which I am one) I would rather give GON the task of tuning and supplying the springs and switch stickers because the keyboard works way better when he adds his famous touch to it.
Rest of the gear like lube can easily be bought off [CTRL]ALT or Ebay.

Yeah, sure, the PCB / plate does support that, but I'd hate the holes in the (top / key-) plate, when I choose a
1.5 / (1.0) / 1.5 / 7.0 / 1.5 / (1.0) / 1.5
bottom row layout, not installing the win-keys (marked (1.0) above).
So any chance you'll have a plate produced for that?
btw: I'd most probably order a kit ;D

I finished soldering the nerd60 PCB but i can't make this key work :Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Z9FW665.png)
Should I send you a picture of the soldered PCB so you can see if something is missing ?
Also , you're not using skype anymore ?
Thanks , it was indeed that i didnt looked for horizontal diodes u_u typing on it right now . Loving it , looking up for your upcoming wireless projects !!!Hello GON,

You seem to have dropped soldering a diode located between "]" and "\(1.5x)".
The diode is "Horizontal" not vertical as others. ;)
Check it.
I use skype. But Even though it says I'm online, I might not be at the computer...
I just seldom turn off my computer... ;)

Hi Gon,
I have a nerd60 pcb, and I'm happy with it but not my bios.
I can't use it there. It seems that I can toggle n/6 kro with Fn+U, but no more succeed. Is it the right shortcut ? Or am I doing something wrong ?
By the way, can I see which is the current kro state ?
Thanks.
PS : you pcb is awesome ^^
How long does shipping usually take from Korea to the US?
Hey guys I played around with nerd_config on my new GON and i don't really know what I did. I was messing around with the leds and now the side and inswitch leds light up only when i press the Fn key? I'd like to switch it back to being on the whole time.
Also how would i exactly change the layout of the keyboard? I know..I'm a big noob when it come to this.

Would you refer to these video manuals? ;)

Did you also check diode ? I had the same issue. make a short over it to verify.I know very little about electronics , could you be more specific ?
Hello GON , getting back to you now that I have time working back onto the keyboard .
There's still fews keys I can't make work , only speaking about the bottom row here .Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/G8j0m2o.png)
Here is a small album showing you the soldering , also I can't activate the keys with a tool (like shown in picture 2 ).

You seem to be in France so let's try :
la diode n'est peut etre pas bonne. Pour tester tu fait un pont avec un outil metallique entre les deux bornes. (ce que tu fais au noveau du switch) et tu refait ta manip avec le switch. Normalement ca doit marcher dans ce cas. Si c'est bon tu change la diode et tu retestes.
Checked diodes , I can't seem to find a problem , however if It can help you to understand the problem whenever I do a contact between the points circled in red :Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/wkxv2cG.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/HHpDeBL.jpg)
It doesn't trigger alt but spacebar while it's still configured as rAlt and lAlt on the nerdyGui .
How's the battery life for the 60% Nerdd V2 PCB if on wireless mode? Does it use bluetooth or another usb dongle?

I think you'd better check solder joints of L-ALT and R-Alt. Reinforce them with a soldering iron.

Well I worked on it today , no pictures for the moment , but I changed some of the diodes aswell as switches , still the same 5 keys not registering .
I have some solder points that are way worse than that , and they work just fine .
What pictures can I provide you so you can help me ?

Gon,
Just saw on Massdrop some of your keyboards in the voting section there;
https://www.massdrop.com/vote/gons-keyboardworks---korean-custom-keyboards
Sorry for posting it here just in case someone has already done it but you need more people here on Geekhack to get in and start voting because this could be a real good chance for everyone to finally purchase a GON keyboard collectively and enjoy a low price tag to boot.
Cheers......

If I remember what I heard correctly, Massdrop already approached GON about working together and GON declined.
ooooh.
A Massdrop edition (kinda like the AKG K7XX headphones) would be really cool!
Even if it was just parts.
(But even if I co-work with Massdrop, I can't offer massive assembly service... because I have only "ONE" body... lol)
Hey GON I placed an order on 2014-10-05, and I asked when it would be shipped on 2014-10-24. I was told "beginning of December".
I asked for an update on 2014-12-11 and got no answer. A week later I asked again on 2014-12-19 and I still haven't heard anything. I tried to add you on Skype and it just says "pending contact request".
GeekHack says you were around today (2014-12-22) so hopefully you see this.
If there's something about my order that's causing a problem, please let me know.

GON talked to me about this issue with my order from middle of October. His CNC manufacturers machine broke down and were unable to fulfill orders for almost a month I think. This delayed a lot of stuff but he has since but in extra orders to avoid this. GON said his manufacturer is back up and running. Also he said that he made a change to the GON hhkb housing so basically he delayed mine further so that I get the updated housing. Don't fret about him flaking on you GON is just very busy!Hey GON I placed an order on 2014-10-05, and I asked when it would be shipped on 2014-10-24. I was told "beginning of December".

Thanks, I know GON has a very good reputation, and he's always been very responsive until now, but it makes me worry a bit. I also want to make sure my requests weren't a huge burden (he was going to do some stuff with the keyswitches for me).

It would be reassuring to hear about revised timelines or updates of any sort. I emailed a couple of weeks ago but haven't heard anything.
I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if any of the GON TKL cases are capable of holding a Phantom PCB?

Probably the poor guy is busy soldering thousands of switches onto his pcb's to complete numerous keyboard orders. Remember he is on his own with this business so that means he has to do everything by himself with no help from anyone. You'll be lucky if you can actually receive a pm from him anytime soon due to completing all the orders.
Just be patient because he will eventually read and respond to everyone's messages, just give the guy some space until he complete's his keyboards.

+1 to this since he just took a bunch of orders for free SMT soldering for the DTA 2014 Limited Edition nerd TKL PCB's to make his life harder.
Are other people still having trouble getting ahold of GON?You just placed your order so honestly he isn't going to have much of an update for you that soon.. I ordered mine mid October and I'm still waiting. He is probably swamped with smd soldering because of that special DT awards group buy.
I have him added on Skype and I spoke with him like the day after placing my order, but I haven't been able to contact him since December 18th. I understand that he's busy, but when I drop ~$600 on a keyboard, it makes me uncomfortable to not be able to get ahold of the guy who's making it for me. :/
I've asked him several times if I could get an update on my order and have yet to receive a response at all since December 18th.
Ordered late September. He told me 2 weeks on Oct 20, waiting for response :)

I ordered late September as well and then the order was affected by the CNC manufacturing issues. Which is fine, unexpected stuff happens. But I haven't heard back regarding where things currently stand, if there is a new time estimate, or at the very least if all the parts for the order are with GON now.
Just spoke with him via Skype today. I'm sure he's busy with CTRLALT's GB, his own GB and Massdrops GB.Massdrop group buy?

Ahh okay. Honestly I can see GON offering a limited amount of unbuilt kits from Massdrop but oh god I hope he never decides to do a buy with them where he builds all the boards.. Jeez that would be a nightmare.
I'm just trying to get some sort of update from him.. It has been almost 3 weeks since I last heard from him and its been 3 months since I ordered...

Did you add him on skype? He's usually fairly responsive there.
Edit: Finally got a hold of him. He has been working like a mad man apparently.
See, everyone here getting all worried about their keyboards being built yet the man has been working on them as we speak.
Time for you lot here to pour some relax juice, sit back and contemplate your ignorance concerning Gon because he is always building more and more keyboards for everyone on this planet, while you lot sit here on this forum spreading fear and doubt as normal.
If you can't wait for anything to be built, imagine how you'll be when it comes time to buy a brand new G-Class Merc?

Before I say this, I'd like to point out, I have A TON of respect for GON and I think his work is incredible. Hands down the most awesome keyboards I have ever seen.
I just ordered a car in October. I patiently waited the two months for it to get here from the factory. The difference is that I received weekly updates from the dealership and the owner's lounge section of the car manufacturer's website had a progress tracker.
I understand that GON is busy, but it's worrisome to pay $653 for a keyboard and not be able to get ahold of the person who's making it. The lead time section of the website says '4-10 weeks' and it's been 8 weeks since I ordered, so it makes me nervous when I pay so much for something and don't receive any updates. I'm sure the other people posting about not being able to get ahold of GON are just nervous as well, as his products are not cheap.
We all understand he's busy, but we're all just eager to receive our orders and updates are comforting.
My advice just google what time it is in south korea and get on skype when it is around mid day in Seoul. Then just message GON. That is the best time to reach him. If you just contact him via message and sign off it will do no good. I was able to get a hold of him this way. He assured me that he is making head way with everyone's orders but is still swamped. I too am waiting for something and it is super frustrating but GON has very popular which has given him lots of work as well.
There is an option: On-PCB Backlight LED for the mx mini. Can anyone tell me what this is? Any picture of this in real life? This is the side led color. On his cases there is a middle acrylic layer. The back LEDs on the PCB will shine though this middle layer. Check the post your GONs thread in the media section for pictures of this.

http://www.corsair.com/en/landing/mx-rgb (http://www.corsair.com/en/landing/mx-rgb) look at the video thumbnail. The green led light is mounted to the pcb which then shines through the rgb switch. This is essentially how the led is mounted.. literally on the pcb. Choose this option if you're selecting a acrylic case for a build.. but I think if you're getting a regular case you should choose in-switch led lighting.
If I'm wrong feel free to correct me.
Quick question I saw some post about using Gon keyboard with macs. I also understand thats not supported on macs, but does it still work on mac osx?
Thank You
I'll give it a try tomorrow with a MBA if no one hasn't.
I have a noob question that I know there is an answer to, but I can't find the thread anymore...
I saw someone use SMD LEDs for backlight(not the side LEDs) from under Gateron switches. Maybe it was Zeal.
I want to ask if that build used the regular LED pads for the SMDs or if there were dedicated lands for SMD backlight.
You can use karabiner to remap on osx. Software remap

I'm pretty sure the PCB has dedicated LED pads for the SMD LEDs. These SMD LEDs are only good if your plate is transparent/see-through. Otherwise, I'd stick with the traditional 3mm/2x3x4 LEDs.

Where did you see the update? GONs website?

Hi all, I'm thinking about affording me a Gon.
Do you know if mxmini Nerd pcb is done ? And does the housing are available or only on pre order ?
Does anyone have one of this beauty ?
So I ordered a GON HHKB earlier this week, I plan to assemble it myself. Is the default housing ANSI? I didn't see any option to select ANSI or ISO and I don't want to end up with an ISO top plate.

I remember him saying he changed a few things on the newest version of the HHKB plate. Not sure if you can see it in detail but my forum picture is a HHKB plate from GON. I think it is default ansi.

When are you going to assemble yours? I'm just shocked that I liked the HHKB layout enough to sell my poker and all the stuff associated with it to buy a GON. :))

GON is assembling mine. He should be sending it out by the end of the week. At least that is what he told me. But I sold my poker long ago to fund this. Best decision ever. But yeah HHKB layout all the way (or at least having the CTRL replace the Capslock). Kind of hard to do the HHKB on a 84 key layout.
Yeah I think I'm in for quite a long wait, I also ordered screws and feet anodized in a different color. I still look at my email every day hoping GON happened to have everything on hand. I know that isn't a possibility but its keeping me occupied. :)) My goal is finishing it by Keycon. So I ordered a GON HHKB earlier this week, I plan to assemble it myself. Haha GON told me he thought that he could ship out my order within a week.. 2 weeks ago :-\
Though I don't blame him, he's got a lot on his plate to take care of. My order is just bare PCBs, parts and an acrylic tkl case though. Can't live without his NerD PCB keymapper.. so I'm putting one in this lz-gh housing.
I still look at my email every day hoping GON happened to have everything on hand. I know that isn't a possibility but its keeping me occupied.
Well actually I'm coming up on almost 4 months.. Made the order October 18th..I still look at my email every day hoping GON happened to have everything on hand. I know that isn't a possibility but its keeping me occupied.
Oh god, I know that feel as well..
I'm actually a bit surprised that there are still people waiting on their orders from September/October, especially with estimated 2 month lead time. I'm curious how long the lead times were before the DTA TKL groupbuy.
Just curious, but is there 2-4 month wait time if you order the DIY kit also? Thanks!
radio_killah, is the blue keyboard in your profile pic the one you ordered from Gon? If so what colour is that supposed to be?

radio_killah, is the blue keyboard in your profile pic the one you ordered from Gon? If so what colour is that supposed to be?Yup it's the blue anodized non glare version.
Yup it's the blue anodized non glare version.
Yup it's the blue anodized non glare version.
Thanks, just wanted to confirm that it wasn't the Sky Blue non glare colour, which is what I chose. I was hoping mine would be lighter than that.
I ordered mine a week after you, on October 25th. At this point I'd be happy if it got here before spring starts.Well actually I'm coming up on almost 4 months..
I haven't seen your GON, are there pictures?Yup it's the blue anodized non glare version.

Yours should be more similar looking to mine but a little less shiny :D
You ordered recently right? I doubt GON has even sent the plate out for anodization. Contact him through Skype so he can edit your order.I haven't seen your GON, are there pictures?Yup it's the blue anodized non glare version.

Edit: Found them, kind of makes me regret getting non glare black. Anyone have a picture for of full glare black?
Yeah, my only doubt was whether I wanted glare or non glare. Do you know what Dustin's HHKB was?You ordered recently right? I doubt GON has even sent the plate out for anodization. His I think was non glare by the looks of it. It had more of a matte finish in his photos.Yeah, my only doubt was whether I wanted glare or non glare. I'm still there with my thought about MxMini. The Hoffmann board is an old one if I'm right. I'm looking for the NerD one version.
If it's already released, I think I'll take it and build it myself.
If one wants to have side leds or pcb leds does one have to have an acryllic case? And if yes, isn't acryllic worse than aluminum cases?
If one wants to have side leds or pcb leds does one have to have an acryllic case? And if yes, isn't acryllic worse than aluminum cases?
Nope you can have aluminum, but the centre piece to the sandwich style case is a translucent polycarb material. And yeah acrylic sucks but you save money.
See my signature for an outdated and poorly executed example.
But if one doesn't get any leds with GON, is the centre piece then aluminum? And if yes is that better for keyboard sturdiness? I don't really care about leds, so if there are any downsides to them then I will not get them.GON currently doesn't make boards with aluminum center pieces, but if that's what you want you might want to check Kaliet (22kbd.com). As far as polycarbonate middles go, I haven't seen any downsides to durability at all. The main difference is weight. I also think that an all metal housing might be a little louder than a polycarb hybrid.

I don't know much about plastics, may I ask what makes acrylic worse than polycarbonate? If one wants to have side leds or pcb leds does one have to have an acryllic case? And if yes, isn't acryllic worse than aluminum cases?

Well for me it's preference. I don't like how acrylic feels and I don't enjoy typing on anything made from acrylic. Polycarb has a nice texture to it and doesn't bother me so much, and it's also been more reliable as far as durability goes for me.

When talking about feel in a keyboard, is this only applicable when you don't use o-rings? I'm thinking that since I use o-rings so I don't even clack so maybe it doesn't matter if I bottom out to a plastic case or an aluminum case?
Sorry if this has been answered before...
Some of the Gons are really top notch in the looks department. However, I'm looking for a very solidly build keyboard, where literally, literally, if I smacked somebody with my keyboard, the keyboard would be a deadly weapon. I don't think the Gon offerings have enough solid metal to do that. Is it a good idea (and possible) to buy a pre-assemebled Gon pcb with the switches and all mounted and ready to go, and then I just plop the thing into TKL aluminum casing like the one from Tex?
Thanks

Hey guys. I am not sure if this has been answered or not. Does anyone know if it is possible to reduce the usb polling rate on the nerd pcb? Also is it possible to modify the pcb so that you can use the keyboard to enter the computers bios?
I am pretty sure it was skipped since no one knew how to answer it. I have no idea sorry :(Hey guys. I am not sure if this has been answered or not. I love how my question was skipped over. I can't even get GON to respond to this question via PM. I am guessing no one knows the answers to this questions?
I do not know the answer either. I heard that Gon is backlogged with tons of work. I also heard that you will reach him faster on Skype instead of Geekhack.Hey guys. Are there any pictures available for Gon's Crystal MX Mini?
Is shipping always around $25 minimum? Trying to order a pair of aluminum feet and shipping is more expensive than the feet o.o
Yep, winkeyless also charges a pretty high base rate for shipping to US (seeing $38 on their site.. though I remember a post saying it would be around $25-30). Pretty sure it's UPS Korea rate to the US, since that's how GON shipped to me last time.
The current shipping method is fast as hell though, it took like 1 week to get from SKorea to East Coast of the States. Is shipping always around $25 minimum? Trying to order a pair of aluminum feet and shipping is more expensive than the feet o.o

Yes, you are right. Though I'm a winkeyless manager, I think it's too expensive to ship products form S.Korean to N.America or so. Basically I ship products through EMS which charges around $38 for 1.25kg item. 1.25kg is the minimum weight for packaging(consider enough aircaps, strong box...). But I charge shipping fee on single system ($38 to N.America/Europe, $26 to in-Asia) and don't add extra shipping cost.
The reason to use EMS is it gives open and universal tracking system.
Anyway I have to find out some other shipping option which is not only fast and safe but also more economic. When I'm ready, I'll post it.

Yep it's definitely fast, had something shipped on a friday and arrived on monday.
On another note, has anyone heard from GON recently? I haven't been able to contact him since January 28.
Could you imagine if he agreed to do those builds on MD like people kept voting for?Yep it's definitely fast, had something shipped on a friday and arrived on monday.

He sent me something over skype just the other day. He is just too busy to reply to anything these days.
I think his current work load has turned him off to that. He said the only thing he might be willing to do is a gb for parts. For Space the two switches pads are linked, the same goes for the bottom row modifiers, they are linked. Those are only alternate positions for the same switch. In that case, does that mean the extra LED pads could still be used? Or is there not enough power to go around.
Do you think it would be possible to load a custom firmware onto the NerD60?
I have my own firmware for the ATmega32U4 in mind, and I am interested in trying out some backlighting tricks.
Thanks in advance.
Did you only order a PCB?Do you think it would be possible to load a custom firmware onto the NerD60?

I haven't received my NerD yet, so I cannot confirm - but I would assume it would be possible as I expect the GoN firmware to be loaded through the USB interface. I have an AVR-debugger here somewhere, could test and see if I can get a connection somehow when I get my PCB...

I'm planning on doing that, but since Gon is swamped, I don't want to place an order and wait forever. I've been holding out waiting to see how fast he ships only PCB orders before I make the jump.
My order from October 17th has still yet to ship. 5 months and counting. I might go to PayPal soon since you only have 180 days to file a claim.Did you only order a PCB?Do you think it would be possible to load a custom firmware onto the NerD60?

I have an order for a case, PCB and electronic components that's been placed since the 14th of November. I think all orders are currently delayed. My keycaps are going to get here before the components :(

That's really weird I ordered a PCB, case and components on October 18th and they shipped on the 12th of November. I've been trying to contact Gon on Skype for the past two days to ask what's up but haven't had any luck so far.

Originally I ordered only a PCB & switches (as I was planning to cut my own case), but I changed my mind and sent some message indicating that I wanted to order more stuff, however I haven't gotten a reply to that yet unfortunately. I kinda jumped the gun not knowing that Gon was up to his head in work...
Really don't like that "paid a lot of money, and no response" kinda feeling - if it weren't for Gon being talked so warmly off here on the forums I'd be really scared.
Try messaging him on Skype. He always responded to me the fastest their. And yeah he's trustworthy, I wouldn't frett about not getting your order.Did you only order a PCB?Do you think it would be possible to load a custom firmware onto the NerD60?

I'm pretty sure he has blocked me on skype from trying to get a hold oh him lol. I really don't mean to bother him but the fact that I have about $500 on the line and the 180 day paypal timeline for filing a claim is coming up, makes me very worried.
No for my order I talked to him and paid the extra fees so that I could get PayPal protection. So my invoice was not a gift. But I dunno I have messaged him several times each day for the last week and have received nothing in return. Doesn't it cost a lot to call an international number though?
Really if you guys really need to get ahold of him just make one of those messages on the order details. He responded to my questions there. He also told me he's extremely busy too.

The thing is, is that he is spotty right now. He will occasionally respond to some people while ignoring others to get stuff done. There are times where he responded quickly and others where he has just not responded for weeks.

I don't have skype credits and I would rather not call international. I mean I trust the guy since I already received a previous order but I am not sure what the hold up is on my other order, he told me twice already that he would send it out but never did.

Also, the keyboard was expensive enough. I'd rather not throw out more money just to get in contact with him.
I can totally spend more money on getting skype credits or whatever but why do it when I know I can contact him for free via a method I know works. The issue is still him not responding which is very possible if I do choose to spend money on skype credits to actually call him.

It may be possible but you have not tried it. Really you are just going full circles with your desire to find a solution that will get him to reply to you. If you do not want to try your only and final option of contacting him then you probably should not complain. Consider this... Email, Chats or other messaging platform will probably be stacked with a lot of questions. A phone call on the other hand is different. Have a nice day.
Spoke with GON on telephone. The delays are related with aluminium housing.
He is a gentle guy :)

This is pretty much where I'm at, but SK is 15 hours ahead so our overlap is minimal. It's just been close to 6 months since my order and if I'm not going to get it (and I haven't heard from him in almost 3 of those), I need to contact Paypal to dispute it before the time is up. I just want it dealt with. There's really only a handful of places to get a fully reprogrammable keyboard and its frustrating that they're all flakey in various ways.

I ordered a keyboard with the crystal housing and he told me that he had all the parts in the earlier part of January so I don't know how relevant this is to my delay.

GON doesn't have any aluminum housings so i'm assuming he meant the plates getting cut which would affect your order since the crystal housing has metal plates on the top and bottom
No the crystal is full polycarb. He's probably just super busy trying to keep track of everything. idk.
I meant he had delays with cnc machining provider. Polycarbonate included i guess

I called him on Skype and he told me the same thing; 2-4 weeks left for my keyboard. He estimated that he has between 30 and 40 orders to get done.
I understand your concerns, it's normal, we are talking about a lot of money. I had 2 orders with GON and both were delivered, and those boards are the best boards I ever had and I will never sell them.
In many ways GON is a pioneer, he is the first Korean keyboard builder, as far as I know, who opened to the "western" keyboard community. There were times when getting a Korean board was close to impossible, not to mention a custom build. You had to have connections and pay top dollar to get one, and the waiting time was huge.
I think this time GON was a little overconfident in his ability to take so many orders, but he will deliver, and when you will get your board you will see why it was worth waiting.
If you want to "buy" some peace of mind, bite the bullet and phone him, or try to call him via skype, he is a really nice guy :thumb:
If you want to get a glimpse at the amount of work involved in a custom build watch his videos, his hand soldering skills are perfect, I've seen boards machine soldered that are far away from his boards.
One thing I learned in this hobby is that you need a lot of patience if you want something special, caps, boards, cases... It's an expensive hobby and requires a lot of patience. If you accept these things you have only nice surprises :thumb:
For instant delivery you get only standard, non programmable (truly programmable) boards and cheap caps.. I could never go back to that
Honestly I am starting to get sick that of the "oh he is totally good for it, don't get your panties in a bunch, just keep waiting" attitude. Not to take a slight at anyone but this sentiment is so pervasive and annoying... GON is providing us a service, and we pay high prices for it. I get that it is custom stuff and takes a while. However he is running behind almost 4 months on orders and that is unacceptable. Yes I know GON will eventually deliver on all his orders but this attitude of just letting him get the benefit of the doubt is just wrong.
He has thousands of our hard earned dollars and we just get told to wait. No that is not cool. He is providing a service and that service should include updates. We are paying a stranger in Korea, from a site most of us have been on for less than a year, a lot of money so it is completely normal to be worried with you have no idea what has been going on for 4+ months while waiting for your order which was advertised to be done in 2 months.
The community gives too much leniency to stuff like this and honestly we should all be giving GON our criticism and feedback so that he can improve his business. In my opinion people, doing GB's and assembly work should be more like bunny and billnye who were great at giving feedback every couple of days even when nothing was happening. They were not perfect but they are at least a great example. It is so annoying that just because we like GON and think is stuff is great that we just give him a pass to be late on delivering tons of product to his customers.
As I understand it he has had lots of issues in the past with his CNC manufacturer and that has held up a lot of orders. That is totally understandable. However he should let us know of that issue. We shouldn't say sorry for bothering GON, we shouldn't say sorry for wondering where our orders are, we shouldn't have to say sorry for trying to get customer service from him. I am a huge fan of GON and even though he has disappointed me with his lack of updates and false shipping dates, I will still support him.
Sorry about the rant. The thing is we shouldn't feel sorry for getting upset, and this doesn't just apply to GON. This applies to all the people offering services and products on GH. This isn't our fault, we give them our money in exchange for goods and a service. We fulfilled our end of the transaction by giving them money so it is only fair to wonder where our product is when it is late and overdue.

By all respects you didn't fulfill your end of the contract at all. Why you might ask BECAUSE building something from scratch takes TIME.
Sitting on your arse and getting all nasty won't make the item come any faster to your front door. In the world of cars spending $340,000USD on a Bentley Brooklands Coupe means you HAVE TO WAIT at least 18 months for delivery. Now according to you they should have the car ready for you to drive away but not when YOU insist on having it customized to your own specific needs.
Everything takes time, if you do not want to wait then set up your tent in the classifieds and harass someone else to sell it to you. Don't waste time in Group Buys or pretend you know what it's like since you just keep b1tching about yourself not getting what you want.
Harden up and shut the FVCK up for once >:D .

How have I not fulfilled it? I have wait more than twice the advertised lead time. I am at 5 months and counting.

to be honest it said estimate. There was never a hard date set by gon.
He seems like a cool guy and I know he's working hard, but I think all of us would feel better if he took five minutes a week to just come on here and give everyone an update.
trying not to pile on, I agree that we all (including GON) would be better served if a small amount of effort was spent to mitigate the demand, and at least warn anyone ordering on the site of the delay. Or even take ordering offline for a little while.

My first GON keyboard took around eight months before it was completed and sent to me here in Crapland.
The Second keyboard took almost six months before it was delivered to my address as well. Don't understand why everyone here is so pissed off in waiting, he will finish your keyboard(s) and send them off to you when he's ready.
You young ones don't know the meaning of time because you are use to everything being handed over to you in a second, once you hand over your money. Things like keyboards that are built from scratch, will always take the longest time especially when there are at least 40 other keyboards ahead of your order being completed, as we speak here on Geekhack.

I pretty much just want to second this. I think GON's work is incredible, but this is frustrating as hell.
It's like going to an amazing restaurant and being told that the wait time to be seated is one hour. Two hours later, you still haven't been seated. You know the restaurant has incredible food and that the wait will totally be worth it, but that doesn't change the fact that you've waited long past the estimate and now you're just hungry and crabby because no one is telling you what is going on.
No one should have to go so far out of their way to contact GON. I understand he's CRAZY BUSY, but after how much we all paid, if he just came on once a week or whatever and posted and was like 'hey guys, here's what's up with your orders', I'd be a lot more calm than I am right now. It's like I said a few pages back, I custom ordered my new car and I had to wait two months to get it, but the dealer sent me updates like once a week on where it was in the build process.
I just want to know what's going on without having to hear it from someone else and without having to jump through hoops to contact GON. Those of us who are complaining just want some customer service and peace of mind. He seems like a cool guy and I know he's working hard, but I think all of us would feel better if he took five minutes a week to just come on here and give everyone an update.
I think people here are unhappy about business ethics rather than being impatient.
I'm sure nobody would complain if the lead time was advertised as 8 months and there was proper communication at the end of said amount of time.
I think people here are unhappy about business ethics rather than being impatient. [...]Business Ethics - Investopedia (http://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/business-ethics.asp):
DEFINITION OF 'BUSINESS ETHICS'While Elrick voices it a bit harsh he is not entirely wrong. Accusing GON of bad 'business ethics' is not only wrong but even slightly malignant. Nowhere in your stories do I see any of the illegal things above.
The study of proper business policies and practices regarding potentially controversial issues, such as corporate governance, insider trading, bribery, discrimination, corporate social responsibility and fiduciary responsibilities. Business ethics are often guided by law, while other times provide a basic framework that businesses may choose to follow in order to gain public acceptance.
Avoiding all the drama here... Would anyone happen to know the dimensions/size of the screws used in GONs keyboards? Specifically for his his acrylic case (or does he use a universal size?). Looking to change it up a bit when I eventually get mine. Thanks!Well, he offers M3 x 12mm (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/housings-and-related-parts/102-anodized-color-bolts.html) bolts on his website for the NS GONPAD, NS NerD 60/HHKB, NS NerD TKL and NS NerD 108. But it also mentions that the Acrylic Housings are not compatible. So... IDK. :/
Wow, useful Q&A thread degenerated to "I want my order NOW" thread.

I might have misused the term "business ethics."
But what do you call misusing estimated lead times on top of no communication?
Sure its estimated and can be wrong, but nobody, including Gon, thinks the lead time is actually two months right now.
If he doesn't think so, then why is it okay for him to advertise it at his estimate?
If he know's it isn't true and he's taking orders from people on his site, without changing or letting them know beforehand, then I can go as far as saying he is lying.
We have people here that even contacted him multiple times and he said he was shipping their order very soon, only for it to not be true. Is that not lying?
It also really doesn't help for him to let his loyal elitist customers put his already unhappy customers in their rightful place for him.
Are the delays mainly for custom builds or are they for all orders on his site?
Wanting to buy some springs.

I believe its for the whole site. I read people were still waiting for pcb parts and stuff. Might be better to ask Gon directly

Okay we get it, no need to attack the guy. Let's just stop responding to these off topic remarks and make this a Q&A thread again. We all understand that GON is busy and we just need to cope with it. There is literally nothing we can do but wait and try and contact him. (Myself included)
Hey guys. I am not sure if this has been answered or not. Does anyone know if it is possible to reduce the usb polling rate on the nerd pcb? Also is it possible to modify the pcb so that you can use the keyboard to enter the computers bios?

I was able to reach GON on skype and got some answers to my questions. I will post the info here.
is it possible to reduce the polling rate on the nerd pcbs?
GON: no its fixed to 1000Hz ;)
I also can not enter the computer bios using the keyboard w/ nerd pcb.
GON: Turn it into 6KRO mode. ;)
GON: Fn1+U by default
Does anyone know if a Poker II PCB will fit the GON NS NerD Crystal 60? Without much modding if possible.

I forget, does the Poker 2 have the dip switches on the bottom?

After 7 months I got an email from GON's automated system claiming my order is in processing. I assume that's a good thing. I'd be great to have the keyboard I ordered and not have to put in a complaint with the payment processor before the time limit is up (9 months). Looking forward to having a fully-programmable keyboard finally.

Hey GON, ygpm! ;)
Ok, silly newbie question.
1. The in switch LED option are the LEDs located in the recess on the switches under the keycaps
2. the side LED is the lighting in the polycarbonate mid, correct?
3. What is the on PCB backlighting?
I actually have a question here, i'm pretty sure i know the answer but i'm just looking for some confirmation.
I'm supposed to break this piece off right?
(Attachment Link)
Also i don't have a picture of it atm but the acrylic case at the USB opening has a very thin piece connecting the whole ring (2nd piece from bottom separating plate from bottom piece)
I'm supposed to break that off as well right? If no one understands what i mean then i'll just take a picture.

PCB yes, case idk
I remember breaking the USB part off on accident, so maybe yes. Does the connector fit if the part is still there? You know, I never tried but now that I think about that, it totally wouldn't fit with that part there.
Soldering them is good enough, but they shouldn't fall out of the plate, they should still need some force to pop out.I actually have a question here, i'm pretty sure i know the answer but i'm just looking for some confirmation.

Thanks. I'm going to assume that the PCB just floats there being held in by the solder from the switches?
Also the plate it too thick for the switches to click in, do I need to glue them or something? Or is being soldered to the PCB going to be enough?I remember breaking the USB part off on accident, so maybe yes. Does the connector fit if the part is still there? You know, I never tried but now that I think about that, it totally wouldn't fit with that part there.
It's probably just for shipping purposes or something even though GON ships the cases assembled.
Soldering them is good enough, but they shouldn't fall out of the plate, they should still need some force to pop out.
Thats how my b.face was, snug, and didn't fall out, but didn't snap in. Are you using plate or PCB mount switches? Because I also used PCB mount switches, so they would also snap into the board.Soldering them is good enough, but they shouldn't fall out of the plate, they should still need some force to pop out.
They fit in snug and don't move around, like I could probably turn it upside down without the switches falling out but it just doesn't seem right lol. If you guys say that's how it is and that it's alright then I'll just go with that lol.
Thanks.

I might still use electrical tape or something to make it super snug if I feel uncomfortable with it lol. That should be fine, as long as they don't fall outI'm using red plate mounted switches that I harvested from my K95 when I swapped blue ones in.Thats how my b.face was, snug, and didn't fall out, but didn't snap in. Is it possible to open the switches on a GON NS NerD 108 case without desoldering the switches first?
Is it possible to open the switches on a GON NS NerD 108 case without desoldering the switches first?
No, not possible on any NS design from GON.
I'm about to order a Nerd60 PCB and NS Crystal Case and I have a couple of questions...
First of all which resistors would I use for for On-PCB SMD LED backlighting?
The parts need list under manuals (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/manuals/137-parts-needed-for-a-kbd.html) says '13. Resistors for LEDs - 470R for Backlight LEDs(In-Switch or On-PCB), 133R/150R for Side LEDs'.
But I'm confused since On-PCB uses the same SMD LEDs like the Side ones, so shouldn't it be 133R/150R same as those? Is the base voltage different?
Are both of these bottom row layouts supported by the NS Crystal Case? Are there other options?MoreShow Image(http://i.imgur.com/kmGvU4x.png)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/CfqhjJv.png)
I realized in Lastpilot's Crystal TKL Build Log (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=65501.msg1531763#msg1531763) he mentions he reached out to GON for matching polycarbonate screws.More'Screws: If you've ever seen a GON keyboard, you will know why having matching flathead screws is important. The entire design is almost dependent on it. So I wanted mine to match. I wanted them to look seamless. I needed flathead polycorbonate flathead screws. I searched for days. They were not easy to find. Metric, flathead and polycarb? Go fish. Luckily knowing GON and his superb customer service, I reached out to him. He made it happen. Thanks GON.'
Has anyone else asked GON about polycarb screws? Whats the recommended way to contact GON, should I just shoot him a PM about this? :)
here is a crash course:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Choosing-The-Resistor-To-Use-With-LEDs/
what you are calculating is resitance for a single led, different colors have different voltages and forward currents, so if you want to use the side leds on the on board leds(plateless build im guessing) then you need the same resistors as you would use on the side led.

Thx for the answer henz!
I've calculated resistors before, but my problem/confusion is more based on the seemingly conflicting information given on GONs website.
I guess it would all make sense tho if the supply voltage for side LEDs is different from the backlight ones, and you could actually calculate that the same way but I'm confused by the given information.
The specs for resistors on GONs website (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/electric-parts/15-resistorssmd-100-pcs.html) mention:
For NerD Side LEDs of 3V(Green, Blue, Purplish Blue, Pink, White) - 133 Ohm Recommended
For NerD Side LEDs of 2V(Red, Orange, Gold(Yellow)) - 133 or 150 Ohm Recommended
For NerD Switch Backlight LEDs of 2V/3V - 470 Ohm Recommended
So both LED types seem to require the same voltage 2/3V, however the Side LEDs use less ohm which I guess means the supplied Voltage is less for the Side LEDs.
Which would also explain why not to use the same resistors as for the side LEDs when you use the same SMD LEDs for backlighting as stated in GONs parts list (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/manuals/137-parts-needed-for-a-kbd.html)...
I actually just did the math and the numbers seem to work out very well so I guess this is the reason. So for example:
Side LED: 2V SMD-LED, 150 Ohm resistor, (20mA) -> supplied V seems to be about 5V
Backlight: 2V LED, 470 Ohm resistor, (20mA) -> supplied V seems to be about 12V
So I guess you would actually use the default 470 Ohm for regular and on-pcb backlight, even tho the same smd LEDs use 150 Ohm when used as side LEDs.
Its pretty much just as described on GONs website but different supplied V confused me a lot... xD
Is there any way to buy polycarbonate screws for your keyboards? I can't find any M3x12mm ones anywhere! Maybe there is better availability in S. Korea?
Maybe something like this?Show Image(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51LstE7Om6L._SX342_.jpg)
Yes I can get them in Korea.(But what I can buy is not - but +)
But they are expensive, and are not sold in small qty.
100 pcs of them are sold at about $20(including domestic shipping and tax in Korea).
So if I proxy them for you, your cost will be about $22(including transaction fee) + shipping.

I have the same question regarding polycarbonate screws GON.
(After seeing how amazing Lastpilot's Crystal with polycarb screws looks its hard to imagine using anything else) =D
Is it still possible to order these from you, are they still available?
When I place my order for a crystal, can i just specify 'plus 100 polycarb screws' in the notes for example?
I can't wait to finally order, but this has been holding me back since I tried to avoid shipping twice... =)

Thx a lot for the help guys! :)
Last actually reached out to me yesterday and offered some of his screws! Thx so much again Last! :thumb:
I had already send my order to GON tho, asking for screws in the comments, and just got an interesting reply that kinda raised new questions... xD
GON mentioned:
'As for polycarb screws, they are a little bit short... so you have to take care when fastening with them... This is why I don't sell them.
(If you need them I can get you as I did for Lastpilot. Don;t worry. ;)) $25 will be added for 100pcs of PC bolts.'
In the meantime, I also found a German shop specialized on synthetic screws (http://www.kunststoffschraube.de/xshop/index.php?language=en&cPath=527_1790_1791#page=1&display_selector=0&perpage_selector=21&products_sorter=0&specialsOnly=0&minimumPrice=0&maximumPrice=1) which happens to have polycarb screws.
They have countersunk M3 pc screws in up to 25mm length, so I'm wondering if they would actually work even better and what the recommended length for a Crystal NS Case would be?
(They have 10.8 - 12.8 - 15 - 18 - 20 and 25mm lenghts for example...)
Does anyone know what the standard length of the metal screws would be?
I think I screwed something up when I ordered.
This (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/custom-kbds-w-assembly/66-gon-ns-nerd-tkl-w-tuningassembly.html) is the keyboard I ordered - The NS NerD TKL.
I ordered this acrylic case (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/housings-and-related-parts/82-acrylic-housing-for-nerd-tkl.html) as well; This (http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/2ebhsb/gon_nerd_tkl/) and this (http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/2kidms/photos_gon_nerd_tkl/) was the look I was going for. In that second link, the guy says that what he has is the acrylic housing.
However, the screws don't line up and it's pretty obvious that I somehow made a mistake (or I'm a giant idiot, I'm not sure which) because the acrylic case I received is not compatible with my NerD TKL.
Did I order the wrong one?
I think I understand you now. You ordered a completed/soldered NerD TKL from GON right?
You can't swap over the pcb/metal plate from the NS Nerd TKL over to the acrylic housing AFAIK. To use the acrylic housing, you need to assemble the PCB using the acrylic plate.
You probably need to buy another NerD TKL PCB to use the acrylic housing, or you would have to desolder all the switches from the NS Housing top plate/pcb and redo it using the acrylic plate.
is there a place on the website to preview the housing colors?
also I don't under the "Anodizing type" what does it changes?
Alway assumed the case were acrylic now I get it, thanks Joey.is there a place on the website to preview the housing colors?

There are two choices for anodizing, hard and soft. Hard anodizing is a grey to dark grey depending on the aluminum alloy you are using, it's also a much harder coating which means it's more scratch resistant. Soft anodizing allows you to choose colors but because it's softer it's easier to scratch. If you want grey choose hard and if you want a color choose soft. There is an album of the colors somewhere but I don't know where.
From GON's website (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/housings-and-related-parts/102-anodized-color-bolts.html) and my own observation with my NS case (not a NS Crystal one) :Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/8yRXK67.jpg)
12mm should be the right lenght.

Can you tell if there is still a little extra room left? I could order 10.8 or 12.8mm but im scared I might have to sand them all down to fit... xDAlway assumed the case were acrylic now I get it, thanks Joey.is there a place on the website to preview the housing colors?

On acrylic cases you can usually select the color of all acrylic Layers,
on NS cases you can choose the type (and color for soft) of alu top and bottom anodizing,
and for the Crystal you can only choose the bolt/screw anodizing color since the case is always frosted/clear. (polycarbonate) =)
No room left, sadly nop !
i think side leds are numlock by default(if its keylock by default)Thanks, you're right.
EDIT: FN(Right windows button)+S works also
Aside from the capslock near indicator next to capslock key, can I use the in switch led of capslock as capslock indicator?
I have a GON nerd60 on the way and just wondering if it is possible.
Q: When you buy the SMD/Resistor/Diode soldering option for the NERD TKL PCB 2.0, do you still need to purchase the SMDs, resistors, diodes separately, or is that included in that charge? My guess is they are sold separately but wanted to check.
Soldering switches is fun, but those tiny parts are a big nope-parade.

From GON himself:
"Hi ;) If you choose the options, needed electric parts are included. You don't have to add additional parts in the cart."
With the aluminium housings and the translucent Gateron switch bodies and tops can the on PCB lighting shine up through the switches for one color of backlighting and in switch LEDs be used for a second color?I was curious if both smt and regular led's can be simultaneously used as well.

I realize now that I'd have to desolder all my switches to gain access to the smt led pads which totally isn't worth it for me lol

I would need to take mine out of it's housing to look. But I think the SMD LED pads should be accessible even with the switches in place
I bought the wireless combo on the ver2.0 nerd60, but I'm not exactly sure where to connect things - has anyone else built one of these?
also, i'm thinking about using SMD LEDs on top/bottom, and maybe also in-switch ones, but I can't really tell which resistor pad is for which LED - is there an easy way to tell?

Is this one? (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/manuals/134-wireless-module-installation.html)
There are three LED options on the NerD PCB, and I'm talking about the GON housings. There is the side lighting which looks to be PCB mount on the bottom of the board. There is PCB mount which looks like it's located on top at each switch and is normally used in his Crystal cases. Finally there is in switch lighting. It should be pretty easy to see as there should be a visible trace going from the resistor to the LED pad.
Ah yeah, now that I take a closer look it is super obvious (silly me)
The in-switch and top PCB LEDs are in parallel - I wonder if it's ok to use both at the same time..

if the two connectors are paralleled you could basically just use a lower ohm reistor and use both leds like this:
http://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/ledcalculator/img/led-circuit.php?supply=12&resistor=240&color=red&nr=2&connection=p
I think thats a question for the pcb maker :)

DON'T use LEDs in parallel, esp. not, if they are not identical (same make, type, color, ...).
Reason for this is, that they - most probably - have different forward voltages.
The one with the lower voltage will take most of the current (if not all) and blow.
F.i. if wou use a red LED (1.2 V) in parallel to a green one (1.6 V), the red one will take ALL the current.
Q: When requesting the PCB soldering option, does the PCB already come stock with the ability to host in-switch LEDs? Or does that have to be added on (i.e. take the option resistors + diodes for side AND backlight LED)? I thought "backlight LED" refers only to the ON-PCB option, and that in-switch LED functionality is already standard. No the in switch led resistors do not come soldered on stock, you must request it.
Thanks for any response!

The top smd led's are run in parallel with the switch led's so if you're planning on using both top smd LED's and switch led's simultaneously make sure to do the calculations for the correct resistors value.
Also when requesting soldering work you do not need to add led's, diodes, or resistors, they are included in the fee. Well you might need to order switch led's if you don't request switch soldering since he obviously can't solder the switch led's without the switches installed.
Hope that made sense.
Edit: to add to this after re-reading your post, back light led's are the normal switch led's and NOT the top smd led's. I imagine you'd need to specifically request that if that's what you're looking for.

More clearly, if you want side LEDs AND in-switch, you ONLY need to request side-led soldering.
the other option is for ON-PCB backlighting (as I originally suspected).

My order has been on 'Awaiting bank wire payment' for a few days. Sent paypal gift payment at time of order with the order reference.
Is this normal?
I don't want to bother GON with this questions so i ask here :)
GON sends invoice inside the package? The package is identified with his website logo?
I ask this because of customs ;D

Has anyone that has ordered a fully assembled board either in dec 2014 or after received there board yet . I'm just trying to gauge how backed up he is. ?
I guess there was an issue with one of his suppliers backing things up that required aluminum (so I heard) but I guess that has been rectified. I've been told a couple weeks so I'm not going to get my hopes up because I know he is way backed up and is not happy with the situation. My stance is hope for the best and expect the worst. From what I have heard people who have just ordered kits have been getting there orders much sooner than people who ordered boards with assembly . Either way folks good luck and I hope I get to see pics of yours soon Joey :thumb:Has anyone that has ordered a fully assembled board either in dec 2014 or after received there board yet . I ordered all the parts for an HHKB in early Feb and as far as I know nothing has been made yet.
Has anyone that has ordered a fully assembled board either in dec 2014 or after received there board yet . I'm just trying to gauge how backed up he is. ?
was yours a complete? Pichu23Has anyone that has ordered a fully assembled board either in dec 2014 or after received there board yet . I'm just trying to gauge how backed up he is. ?
I believe those who was part of his DTA GB is receiving/received theirs already, although I believe those are like DIY kits.
I received mine like a week or two ago and order was made in December iinm.

Any of you had issues with a layer locking in?I think by default Fn2 is a double tap locking layer so you have to uncheck it in the NerDy GUI, to deactivate it you just have to double tap it again.
I haven't binded the layer locking fonction at all. But sometimes the Fn2 layer locks (I have yet to found what combination of keys does it).
And since my Esc is power off in Fn2 it can be quite annoying u_u
Nerd60 if that matter.

When I have some time I will double check this on one of my boards, need a windows for that :(

You should be using Fn1 NoLock or Fn2 NoLock if you don't want it to lock into the layer.
Double tapping Fn1 or Fn2 will lock into the layer.
Are the long shipping times only for pre-built keybaords, or also for DIY kits? I would like to order a MobiK with Bluetooth DIY kit :)

I think shipping is not long, it's the preparation. AFAIK DIY kits are much faster especially if he has the stuff on hand already. Adding any assembly option probably at least doubles wait time. E.g. I ordered a kit Apr. 17, but requested SMD soldering and switch tuning and status has not budged beyond payment received.
I got a shipping notification today for my order placed on 03/07/15 which consists of parts for a Nerd 60 including a universal 60% plate. So GON is still alive and shipping out orders ;D

Sad... I ordered a Nerd 60 Crystal kit in February and I haven't gotten my shipping notification yet. Been sending an email and tried adding him on Skype around once a month. Still no contact.
Yeah. I don't mind waiting long at all since I understand he's only one guy. At this point if he said it'd be an extra 2 or 3 months I wouldn't mind as long as I know what the timeline is.I got a shipping notification today for my order placed on 03/07/15 which consists of parts for a Nerd 60 including a universal 60% plate. The word on the grapevine is he is doing CTRL ALT GH60 GB stuff, also manufacturer delays means he's got a big backlog. He's also one guy.
As for the contact woes, there are a lot of good suggestions in this thread for reaching him. Timing and persistence is key.
current timeline for orders are 6-8 months.

I can only hope that I'll get my board by the time I hit the 8 month mark. I don't think contacting him every two months is that unreasonable, although I haven't been able to regardless. How often do people get responses using the contact form on his website?
I've been unable to contact Gon on Skype or the site, is everything ok?When do you call?

GON's keyboards are definitely great... but is there any risk in buying from him?I just received my order a couple of days ago. Granted it was only parts but he's definitely not a scammer, just really overwhelmed with orders right now.
I'm all for waiting 6-12 months for a quality products... but it seems like spending $300-$500 for goods and not hearing from him at all is a little scary

The only part that was custom was a sky blue full glare universal 60% plate. thanks for reply :) were they all stock parts or did you request some tuning/soldering along with it?
Ordered my 2014 special edition nerd tkl at December It is now may and got an update from him at April sayingsaying he will ship soon it has been a month since that last update
Ordered it with the nerd crystal, switch stickers, stabs, and switches, smd leds
The 2014 special comes with resisters and smd pre soldered. But several peeps already got theirs and to answer your question, no I did not request it to be assembled.
fwiw just got notification that my order is being prepared.
This thread is getting kinda out of hand because I've seen several people scared to order from GON which is/will hurt his business.
You know, I really get what you guys are worried about especially with guys like kin25 keeping his thread updated but GON isn't kin25 but GON also goes back further with this community and AFAIK has not failed to deliver an order.
I get that you have 100's of dollars on your order but if you're part of this community you should have had an idea about all of this before hand yet you still order and just got all impatient anyways.
Just relax people, he not a scammer, you'll get your order eventually.

just got a shipping notice from GON for an order parts placed on april 16 (universal plate, tuned switches, stabs, nerd60 pcb). it seems he has more time now that the ctrlalt order's done! That's bull**** seem, ordered mine in December and just only just recent had thethe order status changed to order processing

It does, my order just made the jump today.
Also Hellcatz, does your order include assembly? Assembled orders take longer.

It's hard to say ... You would have to talk to Gon himself and even then it might be just a very rough estimate!
Hi!
Could you please tell me what would be the delay before shipping for a Nerd NS 60 case at the moment?
Thanks.

Call him on Skype or phone.
I've done it with my order
edit: i've done the opposite of what you want
Also, can anyone tell me the resister value I would need for these LEDs (http://www.ebay.com/itm/161001069376?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)? I'd be using those for both the side LEDs and the switch LEDs.So since it'll be for front in switch it seems it's either 2v or 3v and for purple it'll be 3v. http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/electric-parts/15-resistorssmd-100-pcs.html
Oh and last question: Does anyone happen to have a photo of that acrylic case (doesn't have to be 60%, I just want to get an idea) with every layer as clear? I've looked around and can't find anything, but it would be nice to get more of an idea what I'd be getting.
So since it'll be for front in switch it seems it's either 2v or 3v and for purple it'll be 3v. http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/electric-parts/15-resistorssmd-100-pcs.html
It seems that the side led's are more picky about resistors.
I haven't seen any pictures of GON's acrylic case in clear but look up winkeyless boards like the B.face or something since there's lots of those in clear and that'll give you an idea of how it looks. I personally don't like it.
Pretty sure it's just clear (transparent) acrylic, similar to the ergodox acrylic layers.
Here's an example (minh0's board): http://imgur.com/a/xOBLm (http://imgur.com/a/xOBLm)
Top and bottom layers are clear, while the plate is white.

Thanks for the help. :3 Okay so, if purple is 3v, the value of the resisters for the side LEDs would be 133, right? And then 470 for the switch LEDs? Am I reading that correctly?Pretty sure it's just clear (transparent) acrylic, similar to the ergodox acrylic layers.

Thanks for that link; That keyboard looks amazing. I really like the clear layers. Although looking at that, I'm really considering getting a white plate as well instead of every layer being clear, but I can't decide. Maybe semi-clear. This is a hard decision.
Now hopefully someone can answer my question about the wait time for unassembled parts. I looked back through the last few pages of the thread, and it seems like some people got things quickly and others have been waiting a long time.
my friend spoke to him the other night and he said wait times should be reduced by quite a bit now (he was asking him about assembled boards but i assume this goes for all/most orders)as he said he was almost caught up but I assume Ngt that he would be unable to give you anything other than a rough estimate unless he had all the parts you need on hand and even then you would have to speak to gon.So since it'll be for front in switch it seems it's either 2v or 3v and for purple it'll be 3v. http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/electric-parts/15-resistorssmd-100-pcs.html

From my experience though its really a roll of the dice I hope this helps and does not frustrate :o to get to the crux of the matter I think the wait time should be generally reduced over all but as always YMMV have you tried to contact him through Skype? Your in France and I do not know the time difference but for US ET it seems 11:30pm-12 is a good time to try.
Called GON the other day about my order, he is waiting on the acrylic case manufacturer. My guess is his delays are again due to manufacturer. My order is unassembled, since I ordered DTA PCB.
I bought the GON60 PCB about two weeks ago now, payment was taken and it was changed to "Preperation in Progess" I haven't heard anything since (Dropped him two emails). Does anyone know anything? Or the best way of contacting him? Skype?

It seems that's the way to go! But I read that he might have trouble with his manufacturer. Don't quote me on that, I'm not sure the info is right or not.

From what I've heard he doesn't reply to skype messages but answers calls on skype. My order is also at the "preparation in progress" stage... no idea how long that's gonna take though, last time i was in touch with him he expected to ship it out right around easter... but apparently it still hasn't been shipped
hey, i was at the shop trying to buy a stab wire for my spacebar, and noticed the 23.20 shipping price to Portugal O.o is shipping really that expensive for a stab wire? :/
hey, i was at the shop trying to buy a stab wire for my spacebar, and noticed the 23.20 shipping price to Portugal O.o is shipping really that expensive for a stab wire? :/
I think he uses express mail with tracking (EMS) for everything so it likely has a high minimum cost. try contacting him to see if he can ship using non-tracked methods.
or just get a stab wire from another source?

other sources? the shipping costs kills it to me, the cheapest i can get is from imsto and i have to buy a full set for 10$+10$ shipping.
I have 2 boards, but the stab does not fit, because of the problem I described before, I'll try making one, but I think it's unlikely I'll succeed :/ or ill have to settle for paying 20$ for it witch I really don't want

I'm thinking about adding switch LEDs to my order, can anyone tell me what the effect options are for the switch lights?Breathing, on/off at any brightness, get brighter as you continue to type and dims when you stop, gets dimmer/off as you type and gets brighter when you stop, have it assigned to a lock status like cap, scroll, and num lock.
I saw the GUI video, and I only saw 'breathing' and brightness in the drop down. What are the other modes?

I'm looking for a little advice.if you like cherry browns but want something a bit heavier go for 62g ergo clears. You could go 58g but I have heard they can sometimes get caught on the increased bump of the clears. I like 62,65 and 67g clears but your mileage may vary . I believe gon offers a number of spring options in the ergo clear range!
I'm looking to get a keyboard from Gon. My current board is stock cherry mx browns they feel a little too light for me.
I'm stuck trying to decide between Browns and Clears and I'm totally lost on which springs to pick.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks

I'm sure it would help a little bit but I'm thinking the increased force of the spring might reduce the feel (tactility is that a word?) of the bump in the browns. I might be wrong... Can someone else answer that ?
Thanks Both,
If I got stronger springs on the browns (55g are stock?) would this have the effect of reducing bottoming out but leave the same tactile bump I'm used to?
Thanks
thanks Joey thats what I figured :thumb:Thanks Both,

Adding a heavier spring will decrease the tactility of a switch.
Called GON the other day about my order, he is waiting on the acrylic case manufacturer.
I was hoping for a short wait this time since I only ordered parts. Didn't he have trouble with the acrylic case manufacturer in the past as well?

like Sed8op8 said, gon has ergo clear option. I wish he offered the heavier end of the ergo spectrum (62g, 65g, 67g) rather than (55g, 58g, 62g) though. 62g is basically a bit heavier than brown but with the good tactile bump.
stock clears are also quite nice, I use them on my work board and portable board.
People who successfully contacted him on skype, when are you calling? I've tried to call in the afternoon Korean time several times and never get any answer. My order is 8 months old tomorrow. Last we spoke 7 months ago he told me everything was ready except for the parts from the manufacturer delay. Can a manufacturer really delay for 7 months -_-
It's an assembled kmac plate and PCB with tuned switches. He told me the switches were done and waiting for plate or PCB from manufacturer 7 months ago and haven't heard from him since. I don't know what he's doing if it's not the manufacturer...it's ridiculous how hard it is to reach him, he should be giving me an update, I shouldn't have to hound him on Skype. Did you buy a prebuilt board? My order turns 7 months old tomorrow and I haven't been able to get him to answer on Skype for about 3 months now. It's definitely not the manufacturer.

Got myself a set of sample keys and a spare brown and clear.Cherry says 45g actuation weight. 55g Korean springs (which are measured for bottoming out-weight) are often compared to MX Red.
I switched the brown and clear springs as an attempt at an ergo clear. :D
What weight are the stock brown springs? I've found some people saying 55g.
I have tried GON four times each morning on Skype (Between 8pm and 10pm for Korean time) and each evening (Between 9am and 11am for Korean time). I have had no luck getting through and have been busied twice now. One in the evening and one in the morning. I have done this over the last couple of days I have left two Skype text messages and had no response.
I just want to know what is happening with my order. It has been stuck in "Preparation in Progress" for nearly a month now. I don't really care if my order is delayed... I just want to know what is happening!

Try between 11 AM and 1 PM for Korean Time.
You are lucky - mine is still only in Payment Received. Did you order a case? Could be manufacturer delay. He could also be burned out.

I ordered the GON 60% PCB and Diodes, we talked a while ago and he said that he had a pre soldered one. So I paid $9 more for this pre soldered one and still haven't got it!
I will try and ring him around then. It does mean I will have to stay up until 3-5am... I am in the UK after all.

goddammit. this is obviously going to take priority. sigh.

I think others have experienced success around 4PM Korean Time, which would be 8am ish UK time (I think)?

Am I the only one who thinks this is kind of ridiculous? He was SWAMPED from the last group buy, and we all had to suffer by waiting so much longer for our orders than promised.
Like ttzhou said, this is obviously going to take priority. I just ordered parts this time; I shouldn't have to wait another 6 months for them and after seeing him agree to do another group buy, I'm worried that's what's going to happen.
It's one thing if there's a delay with the acrylic case manufacturer (although communicating that to those of us who ordered one instead of having to search this forum for answers would be nice), but it's another issue entirely when he's prioritizing a group buy that was started AFTER other orders were placed. :/
I saw that in an email from Massdrop and my immediate response was "WTF?" I've been waiting 7 months with my order stuck on "Payment Accepted" and now this??????

Yeah I'm bummed about this too. My only guess is that the parts needed for the Massdrop order are already in his possession from long ago (maybe some MOQ order) and he is simply sending them over. This is sort of confirmed by the comments, where someone mentions that GON has shipped most of the parts but not the middle layer of the polycarb body.
I hope this doesn't go the way of the GH60.
Massdrop sale won't have nearly enough bites to get to the MOQ. Maybe that's a good thing.Yup. At the rate its going, even with a full month they probably wouldn't reach it.

I'll be honest, I'm a bit relieved. He's been absolutely bogged down with orders and this group buy would just slow things down more.
I suppose people didn't realize just how expensive his boards are when they voted for it.
I think it's more a case of them not realizing they'd have to build it themselves.haha, my first thought
Just talked to GON on Skype! He is working hard to get the orders out! My order is going to be sent to the courier service in two days time! so hopefully will be here next week :D
Going to be watching my tracking status intently!
If you don't mind me asking, what did you order (parts vs assembled) and when did you place your order?
Trying to get an ETA for mine based on this.
GON has quite a strict QC. He inspects all the cases when he receives them and if there's any unsatisfactory he will request for it to be re-manufactured.
At least that's what he told me, when I asked last time.
Not sure if your case has anything to do with it though. Either way, I think he has a normal job, the keyboard is just a side hobby. So he might be busy with something else if he doesn't get back to you.
I can only vouch for GON for so much, since he did delivered my order together with a couple of guys from the DTA GB.

I'm not who you're asking and I don't feel like scrolling back a few pages to look, but are you waiting on anything with acrylic? I finally managed to get ahold of GON via the ticket thing on his website, and he confirmed that there's a delay with the acrylic cases.

I'm actually really curious if he does indeed have a regular daytime job because that would really explain a lot of the issues.
With how proper his site is and how amazing his boards are i just assumed that this was his full time job.
I keep seeing people mention pre-soldered PCBs, and I'm a bit confused. Does he automatically solder it when you also purchase diodes and resisters? Or do you have to ask him specifically to upgrade to pre-soldered?
I just paid someone to solder some UV purple LEDs into my Poker II for me, and they ended up being much dimmer than they should have been. We thought that maybe the LEDs weren't compatible with the resisters the Poker II has, so I'm concerned about my NerD 60 having the same issue.

I'm also using purple UV LEDs on my NerD 60 http://imgur.com/a/XXDLq#0 and think they are very dim (when compaired to my white or blue LEDs). I think these LEDs need resistors with less resistance.

On the other hand, spacing of your Eve set is pretty good, I have one that isn't molded well, the key to key gaps vary too much, couldn't detect the same issue with your keyset, it's especially worse on the "W" - which is left molded while others are bottom molded
Is your set one of the originals? The issue I mentioned exists on one of the extras I bought

There is a pre-soldered PCB that used to be on sale, it was leftovers from his DTA GB. It costs about 15 bucks less than asking for the service, IIRC. Not sure if there are any left over. If they are run out then you have to specifically request, I believe.

Does polycarb counts as acrylic?
Did he give any sort of time frame? And is an 8 month delay on an acrylic plate realistic...?
If it is indeed an issue with the acrylic, I'm sad he doesn't just straight up tell his customers that instead of having them wait for 8 months with no clue of wtf is going on.
Attempted to place an order today but only 'Balance Transfer' was available as a method. Waiting on a reply from Gon but wondered if anyone knew if this was intended, a bug or payment gateway down?
I was on the website a while ago. After the last step if you accept the order, it gives you the instructions to pay by Paypal. The problem is, he instructs you to use the "gift" option, which I believe doesn't give the buyer protection?
Can you anyone tell me if it's a good idea to buy from GON right now? I really want a DIY kit, that's all, no assembly service. Since most people can't get even get in touch with him, how long could an order like this take?

Cool, thanks for the answer. I actually went ahead and purchased the DIY kit for the Crystal. Somehow he answered when I called him on Skype and was really nice and told me that he would probably be able to ship in one week. So I payed by paypal and now just waiting :).
I believe if all you want is a pcb with no soldering you should be okay.
If you want acrylic or aluminum parts, those seem to frequently be the things GON mentions he's waiting for.
Hey folks
Do any of you know anyone that Gon talks to here or is friends with. The last 5-6 Skype calls have gone unanswered during the times that have worked in the past. Messages left here on his site and on his phone and still no answer. 7 months now :( on assembled board and the last few times of contact once in march told would ship in 1-2weeks in April one month later assured the board was done and he would ship in the next week. One month later now may said he was putting finishing touches on it and would be shipping within 1 to 2 more weeks and now its been another month and have not been able to get in contact. This is really starting to depress me don't know what to do. I feel like there's no point in even contact. It's been over the Paypal protection period and was thinking I would have better luck proxying through someone who talks to him maybe. I don't know sigh.....

I talked to GON a short time ago about the orders, he said that he is trying to get them out ASAP. He is really over worked at the moment. He sends bulk loads of packages out every two weeks as it is the easiest way for him to deal with the demand.
Try contacting GON at 8:30-11am Korean time or 5pm-10pm Korean time through Skype (He has it on his PC and his mobile and he prefers to pick that up). I did this and was able to get in contact with him and talk to him and sort my order out.
If you still have a problem, I can try and get in contact with him as he is now "friended" me on Skype.
Anyone had any luck canceling an order with GON? Assuming he hasn't had the case built/anodized I wanted to know if it would even be a possibility.
Well I suppose I should feel relieved I'm not the only one with this problem ... I just ordered two batches of switches, the lack of communication is the most distressing.Huh? I can't remember having had to solve any captcha on Geekhack before...
Can't GH use readable captchas?

Has anyone heard any updates about orders with acrylic cases? I'm tired of trying to get in contact with GON, and other people seem to have better luck, so I'm hoping someone knows what's going on with the acrylic parts that were delayed recently.

I found the trick is to use ctrl-+ to zoom in a lot, then it becomes easy to read the letters.
Since my initial query I've been watching this thread as I was curious, I'm really really really glad that I didn't impulse buy a 75%I was in the same situation as you were. Wondering if I should get my 60% case or not. That's a sad thing to say but I'm happy I didn't order one.
You guys at least deserve an occasional forums post from GON about the state of your orders, it was painful reading about your experiences, time to unwatch the thread I guess, it's getting pretty sad
No matter how busy an individual is, I think at least a monthly status update would be manageable ...
My advice is, call him until you get it in your hands
GON needs to hire some help asap.
Just coming here to post my monthly update. It's now been 8 months since I ordered the keyboard in October 2014. GON told me I was going to get it earlier this month, but I can't say I'm surprised that the order still hasn't passed "Payment Accepted."
:blank:
Has anyone talked him since the beginning of this month he hasn't picked up for 3 weeks on his skype number just about 7 months now for a preassembled aluminum tkl .
GON also wanted me to pass on this message
"Please tell the GB joiners and GH members that I feel so sorry for this terrible delay... I think I need to hire someone who can help me packing shipments. ;( The problem here is... it's not easy who has sufficient English skill needed for this work...."
and i would like to add, although there have been delays, i cant speak highly enough of gon, whenever i do get to speak to him he is always incredibly helpful, and takes great pride in his work, im over the moon with the results, and looking forward to working with him more in the future

Did he explain why there was a delay? Also, if you don't mind answering, what was your order for?
I think there was a recent Massdrop buy for his stuff too. So I would be careful putting in an order now.
Finally news.....He sent pic of completed board and it supposedly went out yesterday 88888)
My parts order was shipped recently.
This probably means the acrylic case hold up is over.
So sorry for late reply...
I had to save time to ship out simple orders including yours.
You would have got the shipping notification. ;)
You'll get your items in about a week.
Thank you so much for your patience.
From now, simple orders will not take long.. lol~
(I found someone who will pack and ship orders at my website.)

GON finally finished my board as well. He says that he will ship it out within a couple of days.
Anyone know how to get the nerd60 v2.1 board into bootloader manually? i wasn't able to configure the kbd reset with keymap using the 1.4 gui since it would crash every time i tried to save, there's mentions of the 1.3 gui being the only thing compatible with the board but i wasn't able to obtain it. now my only hope is to try and re flash the 2.0 firmware one the board but it keeps failing and timing out

Hey folks
Quick question I was hoping one of you could help me out with. I am looking to replace the Aluminum bolts/screws that are shipping with my assembled board (gon tkl)and was wondering if I can order these from someone besides gon ? They appear to be a standard AL 7075T6 Bolts m3x12 mm with a flat head. I'm not sure if they are hex or not as I do not have the board in front of me. I do know he uses these for most of his housings though !
I really do not like the color and I do not want to wait 1-2 months for 12 bolts. Also it would be $24 plus shipping from him so there's that  any help with this would be greatly appreciated 8)
Thanks all

Hey all,
Just got my Nerd60 crystal parts I ordered in Feb. Started putting it together last night and this morning. Anyone know about the 3 bluetooth LEDs (Bluetooth status/charging/indicator). Do they all work or is it just the charging LED?
Thanks!
Thanks! Exactly what I needed.Hey all,
Just got my Nerd60 crystal parts I ordered in Feb. Started putting it together last night and this morning. Anyone know about the 3 bluetooth LEDs (Bluetooth status/charging/indicator). Do they all work or is it just the charging LED?
Thanks!
From my tests all of them can work at the same time. I set the indicator as caps lock since the in switch one is apparently linked to the normal back light. Charging light only works if you solder the dip switch and flip 2 on. bluetooth led has three modes from what i can tell, pairing mode, searching mode and on.
no the bolts are a golden color and the aluminum casing is blue. I'm looking for a place I can buy these either locally or online in the United States. Also wondering if there is anything special about them that would keep me from using a replacement NOT from Gon himself ? Thanks everyone 8)Hey folks

The bolts are M3x12mm, HEX flat head(head embed, google translation from portuguese :D). You need a 2mm HEX key.
Do the bolts match the case color?
My case is grey, hard anodized. The bolts aren't made of aluminum. I guess it's alloy steel. They're black.
Has anyone ever tried to flash a different bootloader into a Nerd 2.0 PCB? I enjoy the keyboard a lot but for me it would be much better to be able to tweak the firmware and flash different configurations.
As I understand I need to use an ISP programmer and than flash the TMK firmware to the PCB. Has anyone ever tried that and can confirm that everything works, including PCB and side LEDs?
So I had been inquiring about picking up some different colored bolts for my new gon coming in and I'm hoping these will do the trick. I don't have the board in front of me but these match the measurements and look pretty close (I think to the ones gon supplies) if someone has an extra one they could take a close up picture of for me that would be great so I can try and match the head shape http://www.fastener-express.com/m3-x-5-x-12mm-flat-head-socket-cap-screw-purple-anodized-qty-25.aspx
Keyboard arrived! Finally after over 10 months!
You can see pics on What did you get in the mail today? (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=33130.msg1794760#msg1794760) thread or on Imgur (https://imgur.com/a/s2BfD).
I also requested a change to the LEDs months ago which didn't make it into the final build (the LEDs should be red), however the changes to the keyswitches were made (blues with heavier springs).
I do think that better communication and keeping track of customer and order status would be nice. The turn-around time was crazy, so I don't recommend anyone having GON build a keyboard for them, but parts seem to come much faster that assembly.

I see here:

Oh sorry I meant which color is that grey? I ordered dark grey but to me it looks very similar to the regular grey, I was just wondering if yours was dark grey or black.
Can someone talk me through programming a GON? It came preprogrammed with qwerty and some weird Fn setup.
I have 3 files in the folder, on Desktop:When I get home I'll check of I have a folder, I don't think I do.

NerDy GUI.exe
winutil.dll
NerDy GUI 1.4 zipfile contains those 3 files. Just extract and run "NerDy GUI.exe"

I would personally wait a few months, or call GON ahead of time on Skype to get an idea of how busy he is. A lot of people have had to wait a while for their orders - I waited two months just for my parts.
That being said, GON is a great guy and is worthy of your business... just maybe not right away

is a pre order link, anyone know if this is still active? Is there a estimated delivery date?
Thanks!
I would personally wait a few months, or call GON ahead of time on Skype to get an idea of how busy he is. A lot of people have had to wait a while for their orders - I waited two months just for my parts.
That being said, GON is a great guy and is worthy of your business... just maybe not right awayShow Image(https://s3.amazonaws.com/tapatalk-emoji/emoji14.png)

GON mentions that his stabs are PCB mount.
Sifo built me an acrylic GON TKL, which has a middle layer "plate", and I foolishly forgot to tell him to clip my stabilizers.
My question is: if switches have already been soldered and the stabs are installed, does one have still have to desolder the switch in order to clip them? I heard that PCB mount switches can be clipped without desoldering.
Thanks for any reply!!!
I would say its pretty hard to remove the stabs without desoldering even with a nerd. The stab feet will get stuck and risk breaking them if you use too much force. I might be wrong, but that's how I felt at least , so I desoldered. gl
I had to desolder everything on my GON NS NerD to change the stabs. It was impossible no breaking it without desolder.

The alu plates don't have the wire cutout, from what I can see, so you couldn't pop the stabs out like Sifo did - you'd have to desolder all the switches so you could remove the top alu plate from covering the PCB (might be wrong on this).
This is probably a long shot, but does anyone happen to know where I could find white replacement flat head screws for a NerD 60 acrylic case?
I had originally planned on purple, but the only ones I've seen were the ones linked a couple pages back and they're too pink to match my UV purple LEDs, so I thought white would look nice instead. :3
So I had been inquiring about picking up some different colored bolts for my new gon coming in and I'm hoping these will do the trick. I don't have the board in front of me but these match the measurements and look pretty close (I think to the ones gon supplies) if someone has an extra one they could take a close up picture of for me that would be great so I can try and match the head shape http://www.fastenerxx-express.com/m3-x-5-x-12mm-flat-head-socket-cap-screw-purple-anodized-qty-25.aspx

Those are the ones I was referring to! :>
I actually did see those stainless steel ones and was planning on buying them if I couldn't find actual white ones.
Have you ordered the purple ones yet? Could you possibly post a picture of them once you receive them? I'd like to know how purple they are compared to the photo on the website. :3
how does one configure nerd using command line in linux? atm i have to boot into windows to configure my leds, but apparently there is a CLI interface for linux?

didnt wanna make a new topic for this..
but i see GON is backlogged bad..
is this for presoldered boards, or for anything in gnereal?

actually he has presoldered pcbs with resistors for sale. what will likely delay you is assembled boards, or requesting soldering services. I requested side led service and it took me about 2 months (4x original estimate).
it was worth it. gon is definitely a "keyboard master" as he says.

I ordered my keyboard 10 months ago and it still says "payment accepted" and I can not get ahold of Gon. I paid almost 600 dollars for mine. Suggestions?

I have had him on skype since I made my order. No responses for the last 3 months, 10 times or so.Call him between 11 PM and 12:30 AM Eastern Standard. Try every fifteen minutes or so.

I was in the same spot as you and I decided not to order, even though I wanted an unassembled case. I guess you have to be prepared to wait some time don't hope for a quick order IMHO.

Well i think everything will take time. Some things more than other, i have ordered two pcbs which are not presoldered. Took me 1 month(got the shipping notification today, YAY) i have ordered 1 presoldered pcb and a anodized housing, took 5 months.
CTRL alt housing almost took a year. But i got it and i could not be happier.
Just order what you want, you will not be dissapointed.
GON literally just replied to me when I contacted him via his website's contact form like an hour ago.
I have trying my best to read through some of the recent posts in this very long thread.
I'm interested in possibly placing an order for NerD mx-mini keyboard parts; assembly will be done by me.
Some questions I have are concerning his work load. I can imagine making Ferrari-esque keyboards will take quite a long time, and I can easily see waiting months for the product, but how responsive is the web-store regarding just parts? I'm ordering PCB and electronic parts to go with it for a build.
Second is much more specific. I'm interested in the Acrylic Housing for the mx-mini, and the page states "This housing is not compatible with On-PCB(Top Side) Backlight LEDs of NerD mx-mini Ver2.0 PCB." Does anyone have any information about that statement and/or anything else about that housing they are willing to share?
More the better!
Thanks guys!

My first Gon order involved no assembly and still took around 2 months to be delivered. Which was fine by me, just letting you know.
When did you order?
The feel on the switches is amazing I'm just very worried that every time I remove a key cap its going to weaken the tabs on the switch or damage the switch in some other way.
If anyone has experienced this before please drop me a line or post in this thread.
thanks Elrick !!! I have OCD so if something is even a little off with something it drives me freaking nuts  I guess I'm just looking for someone to say it will be alright :))The feel on the switches is amazing I'm just very worried that every time I remove a key cap its going to weaken the tabs on the switch or damage the switch in some other way.

If you have weak switch tops then simply apply some lube onto your Hyperfuse Cherry MX stems before inserting them into position that way later on you can easily remove them without ripping off your switch tops.
It happens with certain CherryMX switches when using certain faulty batches of manufactured SP keys, that had ultra tight fitment.
Hello, what's the difference between the Nerd TKL Ver2.0 PCB w/Full SMT and the regular version?

Will you be supplying Zealios switches as an option in the future?
This special offer product will go into production in Jan and will be shipped in late Jan or in Feb.I wouldn't expect it till march. if it comes early then great, if not then don't sweat it. It'll come.
Hi,
What is the current lead time when just ording parts from Gon? Was just after a NerD60 PCB / Plate and Diodes?
Also does the NerD60 support RGB leds?
Kind regards.
I have a NerD60 connected to my iMac and it works fine.
Does yours work on a windows machine?
Gon, do you plan to support zealios switches in the future and rgb led programming?
Gon, do you plan to support zealios switches in the future and rgb led programming?
Gon hasn't posted on GH since January. You could order a PCB with diodes and resistors pre-soldered, then solder the Zealio switches yourself. It's really very simple. Assembling your own board is more fun anyway, and your order will get to you much more quickly.
Hi,
I think I need to visit GH... but I'm afraid I don't have enough time to answer all the questions there....
It will take so much time and will take me time to complete assembly orders....
I'm trying my best to spare time to finish assembly....
38GT PCB does not officially support Side LEDs.
I once assembled 38GT /w side LEDs... but they are not perfect as NerD 60....
Thanks,
GON
Ns nerd tkl pcb mounted or plate mounted?
Is there a way to make the FN keys not lock on double tap? Basically only if I'm holding it
Is there a way to make the FN keys not lock on double tap? Basically only if I'm holding it
yes, look for Fn1/2 (No Lock)

I think he just desire it not no lock when double tapping, I find it a bit annoying too.

Yeah... there's an option for a Non locking FN key it's literally called "FN1 No Lock"

Sry to ask the obvious question but did you check the polarity?

Yeah, they were working prior to when I switched the LEDs. To be clear, I only switched the LEDs on the alphas.

What color were the old ones and what color were the new ones? Different colors of LED's sometimes require different voltages.
what is the preferred option for tuning of the springs on the cherry brown? i was thinking of just going the stock spring but getting it lubricated and stickered.
also with the side led's can you mix colours so they form a different tone of colour and brightness?. Would love to mix either white/blue, white/red or white/purple to give it a brighter cleaner colour or would it just turn out looking patchy around keyboard?
In case anybody was curious, solved my issue... I'm using a WKL layout, so the + and - are reversed. Just needed to flip the LEDs around.
Hey does anyone know if GON's Bluetooth module works with the CtrlAlt60 pcb?
I am fairly new to this sort of thing and a bit unsure what to order for the NerD 60 after the NerD 60 Ver2.0 PCB and the GON NS NerD 60 case and the switches and Stabilizers.
Should go for the Optional Soldering on the PCB? should I get one of those Universal Frame/Plate for 60%?
last thing is I have no idea about the lighting options with the Electric Parts,, I am unsure what to order and how many should be purchased of everything. I would like every lighting option available to be used
I just assembled my Nerd 60 with the additional bluetooth module. I got it recognized by my mac, and all the LEDs work. When I turn on the battery, everything works fine. However when I try to use it wired the keyboard keeps powering on and off. Any ideas?
Hi, does anyone know what is the thread/screw specs for GON's aluminum feet? I am looking to put them on one of my keyboards, and need to know the right specs.
Also, does anyone know what is the degree of GON's TKL slant?

Gon has a rundown of what you'll need. (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/manuals/144-parts-needed-for-kbd-assembly.html)
• The optional soldering is for stuff that will make the back (underside) and/or side lights work. -if you are committed to lighting everything, things will need to be soldered. I would add the soldering, unless you are a soldering badass (watch a video on surface mount diode soldering, that is what Gon would be doing for you)
• lighting the back (underside) I believe, (someone else please confirm) is only visible if you have the 'Crystal' NS housing.
• i didn't get light with my kb, so i'm not sure how many total LEDs you can install, but it seems like you'll need a matching set of resistors for what ever led lighting you choose.
• the frame/plate is for pairing with your pcb and installing it onto some other 60% case (i.e., Tex aluminum or acrylic), so you won't need it because you are already set on putting it in a GON housing.
If you're gonna go all the way with putting it in a GON case with lighting, and you are not a soldering expert, you may want to consider just buying it assembled. If you have no soldering experience (but wanted to learn) the SMD lighting part may be a bit too much for a beginner.
Does anyone know what type of LED is used for the (Capslock) indicator light, or if there is a resistor you need to solder with it?

Well, he does sell them on his store, so I'd imagine so.

As far as I know the aluminum feet are made to order. So you're still looking at a little lead time. However my last 2 orders have only taken a week
I need help.

Is it possible with the NERD60 that I only turn on the led under the ESC key when I have installed led's on all switches ?

Is it possible to add ä, ö, ü with the software to the fn layer ?Depends on how you want to do that. I wanted to do something similar, but it would involve a major pain in the butt if you want to keep it based on the ansi layout, but still have iso-de as the standard layout the OS uses.

You could set up macro keys that just type the corresponding alt codes as an easy alternative.
I'm not familiar with the possibilities of this PCB or software, my answer is based on machine limitations.
You would have to set your input layout in your OS to iso-de to have native äüö support.
I'll just write down which ansi signals you would need to trigger a ä, ü and ö output if the OS is set to german layout (you cannot trigger a native ä,ü or ö without using german layout in your OS):
ansi= ' triggers a ä output
ansi= [ triggers a ü output
ansi= ; triggers a ö output
So I still have to use my autohotkey script.
Straight on the PCB is perfect, no need for raisers or SIP.
