Update:

We have some exciting updates for you on the Lumina GB!

____

We now have an Acrylic base option for the Lumina on our website: https://www.luminakb.com/. It comes in all the same colors as the acrylic plates that we offer, and we also have included aluminum cone feet to boot. Now you can get a flat angle, as well as the original 7 Degree angle, like the other angled bases.
________

Additionally, with the use of Frosted or Clear acrylic, RGB underglow compatibility has now been added to the Lumina.
_________

Come on over and build your own kit: https://www.luminakb.com/parts-1 while we work on putting together some premade kits!

_____

Some Renders: https://imgur.com/a/9v8dTo5 that have been added to the master render album: https://imgur.com/a/O1ppM9H

______

Additionally, one person, /u/rainb0wbac0n on reddit, has talked to us about a special color, Cosmos Prima, which is not currently being offered. We did confirm that if an MOQ of 25 units were to be reached, we would be able to run it at the same price point as the Cameo White and similarly priced options. This color option is the same as in these renders: https://imgur.com/a/9v8dTo5 by /u/plexabyte.

If you are interested in this colorway, please feel free to fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfotfSZhsGtk8oJQWIZqdOC4BYVSn7-n5He1qbR0ZGwjAOMzQ/viewform and Let us know!

________

Just a reminder, the Lumina GB will be closing August 27th, 2018, so you have 11 more days to get your order in!

___

Let us know if you have any questions!

Update:

Hello all!

Today was scheduled to be the last day to place orders for the Lumina keyboard. We were planning on closing the sales, and placing the order. However, we have received quite a considerable amount of messages from members of the community, concerning extensions on the GB period. We want to provide anyone who wants a Lumina with the time to order one, so we have decided to fulfill your requests!

We are extending the GB by another week! The new final date for the Lumina GB is now September 3rd, 2018.

Additionally, Cosmos Prima is now available on the store to be purchased by anyone! Cosmos Prima example
It will be available in the Build Your Own section of the store, when you choose the corian color for your top and bottom corian pieces.

The Acrylic Base option is on the store in the Build your Own kit section, and we have also put up a premade kit as an example of one of the many variations you can come up with in the Build-Your-Own section of the website.

_

The Acrylic base is an option that not only reduces weight, for those of you who do not want a 7 pound board to lug around, but it also reduces the prices. The addition of the acrylic base brings the price range low to $231 with an acrylic plate chosen. Come over and check out all the different color combinations you can come up with, and see how it affects the pricing!

While we are extending the GB another week, we will also be taking the time to keep working on getting the best international pricing for shipping. Bear with us as we work on getting those numbers, and once we do we will post them in the next GB update!

Make sure to get your orders in by then, and let us know if you have any questions!

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2nd:

Hello all!

Just a reminder, tomorrow, September 3rd, at 11:59pm EST, we will officially close the GB, and start production of the Lumina orders.

Additionally we have prices for shipping for EU as well as AU.

Because of the variance in weight for the different bases, there are many variables. The prices of shipping reflect this, so if you have questions about shipping for a certain selection of kits/bases, please do message us, and we will give you a personalized estimate.

Some more pictures of the Lumina, this time with GMK Oblivion: https://imgur.com/a/xVmudDf

As usual, let us know if you have any questions, and thank you for all your support!

Just to reiterate, website is Luminakb.com

https://imgur.com/a/7T6GHGK

if you for some reason did not make it into the allotted time to order, and you really wanted to, please do let us know, we will potentially be able to accommodate!

UPDATE: December 6th

Waldo PCBs have landed, and we are checking all of them, as well as programming, and arranging for them to be added to the QMK Configurator: https://imgur.com/A1AGaof

Production Spec Lumina pieces with all the updated tolerances are being (allegedly) made, and we will have pictures up with some of the current batches and colors.

UPDATE: December 18th:

Apologies for the late update, Lumina Plate file template can be found and downloaded here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bB3RgncaowyYUo3oORGlF2Pigo2Q3ip5/view?usp=sharing

Have not been able to visit the Manu for pics this week or last week, been slammed with work.

UPDATE: March 5th:

Communication with my current manufacturer for the most important part of the Lumina, the Corian and the bases, is horrendous, and I have decided to move production for the bases to a different manufacturer to speed things along. I was told that I would have finished production units by now, but I suspect that the base manufacturing has not been started yet. For the month or so, I have been scoping out a new manufacturer for the bases, and I have samples coming for both brass and aluminum to make sure that quality is good for this one I have found. I will be eating the cost for the time being from the Lumina base order I placed with my current manufacturer in order to get stuff done faster, as like you all have been waiting, I have too with this particular manufacturer. If it comes to it, I will also find a new manufacturer for the Corian, as big of a loss as it would be.

I'm still actively trying to get any good news from the current manufacturer, but regardless of what I hear back, there will be a new manufacturer for the bases in order to speed up the production. The new place plans to have samples in my hands within the next couple of weeks, so I am hoping that is true, and not all talk like the current manufacturer.

I do apologize for the delay. Frustration levels are high, and the GB is long, but I intend to finish it out no matter what it takes.

If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to me on discord @tesletron#0001 or on here(although I still suck at geekhack) or by email.

Additionally, the site has been taken down, and no other orders are being taken. I will update both here and on discord.

Update 4/15/19

Hey all! An update on the overall Lumina situation: We have gotten satisfactory samples of both the Aluminum AND Brass bases (upgraded from Polished Brass to PVD coated) and the pvd brass plates. Aluminum plates are in and ready for the anodization process. Both meet our standards and knowing quality is up to spec, mass production order is being placed. Linked below are pictures of the plates and bases. Acrylic Plates and Bases have been QC'd and are finished. The waldo is now also officially in the QMK configurator.

https://imgur.com/a/LY05uP5

Thanks for Reading!

Update 5/6/19

Samples from new factory came in today, and quality is absolutely above and beyond what I was expecting.  I have tentatively assembled the board to check fit with the other parts, and everything is very comfortable and easy to assemble. Corner Radii fit perfect, threaded inserts are as solid as can be, and production will now move forward at full throttle. Will update with lead time this week. Thank you all again for your patience and support on this project!

Here is an album of the Cosmos Prima variant with the Brass plate and weight features: https://imgur.com/a/BRiDQGv

Update 5/8/19

New samples in with more colors, update to follow with lead time, in the meantime, here is an album of the Elderberry, Cosmos Prima, and Red in various lighting environments. https://imgur.com/a/pXzHdi0

The way we have it planned out is you can order from our site, and choose the international option. Once we get final numbers, we will invoice each person based on cost we get from shipping a batch to the EU and dividing it up into the number of orders. Currently we are working with David over at Mechboards.co.uk on that.

Please put it somewhere, as I've met such solution for the first time ;)

btw have you noticed that all EU proxies are done by a nice guy named David? (Mechboards.co.uk/mykeyboard.eu/candykeys.com)

The board might support khail hotswap, but just to not give false hope, I have not confirmed it, because we have not been able to test it. As far as clearance issues go, it should be working fine.

Is it possible to change my order? I replied to my confirmation (luminakb@gmail.com) but haven't heard anything back.

Love this board, happy it's finally coming to life!

Also -- just to confirm, the black will have speckles like in the color sample, right? They're not visible in the render, so just checking.

So a built Brass bottom kit will range from 6 to 7 Pounds or so

An Aluminum will be between 3 and 4 pounds.

The acrylic base will be between 1 and 2 pounds.

If you want a point of reference, the Fjell weighs around 5 pounds or so.

We are currently working on shipping quotes for Australia, since there seem to be quite a few people interested. We want to see if we can bundle some orders together to be able to reduce the cost per person.

So far we have quite a few people in the EU interested in the board, so it should not be too bad when we ship all the orders together.

If you bought one of the premade kits and it was brass, it will come with the brass plate as well as the brass base. You can pick and choose all your parts in the build your own section, so there is no limit to the various parts you can get or the combination of parts. The premade kits are there so that if people are not confident enough to pick their own kit parts, they have something to fall back on.

Are you looking to do a 65% similar in layout to the M65-A? I don't think I can budget this GB unfortunately but I would be very very interested in saving up for a 65% version of this. These are absolutely beautiful and I am heartbroken I can't afford one during the GB window.

Are you looking to do a 65% similar in layout to the M65-A? I don't think I can budget this GB unfortunately but I would be very very interested in saving up for a 65% version of this. These are absolutely beautiful and I am heartbroken I can't afford one during the GB window.

it will be something similar to that layout yes.

Thank you for your support! We absolutely plan on doing a 65%, but it will be a bit before we launch that, as well have to finish the Lumina GB, as well as another layout before we get to the 65%

Oooh, do tell :) And I'd be totally in for a 65% as well as long as the arrow-key blocker is an option.

In the meantime, still trying to decide between white and elderberry for this run...

Hahah yeah those two would be the top choices for sure. I guess it all depends on the keyset you plan to put on the build.

What I know from the GB owner(s), they are going to ship keebs to UK. Then they will ship to buyers.
I have not found any information about shipping costs, it was always free.

In a previous comment he said that the shipping costs to the EU proxy will be divided under the EU buyers. So when they get the final numbers and a shipping quote we will get an invoice I assume?

Its really the acrylic case that makes the nice sound. Instead of reverberating harshly through metal, the sound of the key switches dissipates in a quiet bassy way.
An acrylic plate is quieter than metal and a little more high pitched.

There is not any info on google since it is a new pcb that is launching aside the Lumina GB.

Just a quick rundown:

Type C
Alps Support
RGB Underglow
In Switch Leds(south facing)
Runs QMK
Supports the layouts seen in the product images here: https://www.luminakb.com/product-page/waldo-pcb
Costs $40 in the GB

Thanks for the reply Greenwald! Definitely in on this since I think its the only way I can get close to that glorious thock of my original HHKB while staying away from the feel of cheap/light plastic.

Do you know if the typing sound video in the OP was with the acrylic or brass plate? Love the look of the brass plate but if it re-introduces too much metal reverb then I may want to stay away.

Of course!

As for the video, all the tests were done with the brass plate. The sound it produces will not produce any reverb. The main difference between the acrylic plate and the brass plate is that the acrylic plate will be quieter, but both will provide a nice thock for you, especially if you use SA caps on the board.

Hopefully this is my last question! After reading the IC thread I could not determine if the HHKB top option uses a 6u or 7u spacebar?

Also, I assume if we choose the HHKB top, we would not be able to make use of the split spacebar?

The HHKB top uses 7u spacebar, and yeah you would not really be able to make use of the split spacebar, unless you get creative with the layout you choose for the bottom row.

kbdfans and 1up both have cheap SA sets, full set plus some novelties for 100$.

I also was able to fill a 60% with two grab bag sets from r/mm, and its my fav tbh. People sell grab bags for 30-70$ usually

I'm going with a pretty similar theme as you are.

Hello all! Sorry for the lack of communication lately, have been busy, and not much on various platforms.

I am happy to say that materials for the cases have arrived at the manufacturer, and machining has begun. Additionally, the Waldo PCBs are almost done production, and will be coming to me in about 2 or 3 weeks.

Will provide pictures of the PCBs and boards soon as I finish the first batch of colors!

All boards should be delivered before the end of 2019. Ideally would be towards the beginning of December, End of November that things are completely wrapped up.

I asked this question before and from what I remember, it's not officially supported since this is a sandwich mount and as a result there won't be any mounting points to keep the pcb in place except for the tension of hot swap sockets. If that is ok with you there is no reason you can't use hotswap as long as usb port location matches. Again this is what I remember, but I may be wrong.

Is there any possibility of a 65% in the future?

This was answered. I understand it can be hard to find answers on some of these GB threads where a single answer might be buried 30 pages back. But this GB only has two pages.

This is incredibly beautiful and elegant. Any plans to make a 65% version?
Thank you!
We do plan to do a 65% but that will not be some time til mid of next year, well after this one finishes.

I'm sorry, I meant to look but forgot since I'm at work. Glad to hear there are plans! I think I'll hold off until then,  that way I can make sure I've got the money! Hopefully we'll see the same level of freedom of choice as with this GB, as it's incredibly refreshing.

I'm a bit confused ,

The GB is over but on your site it's still possible to order the Acrylic Aluminum kit ? (https://www.luminakb.com/product-page/acrylic-aluminum)

It even states (when checking out) delivery to belgium is free?

Thank you for your reply

This is pretty standard practice for group buys. If you want to keep your finger on the pulse of the GB, then instead of being salty, join all the proper outlets and pay attention. There's almost always info in discord on GBs which isn't shared elsewhere.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think it only professional to keep communication announcements flowing in all places where the group buy ran.   Not everyone accesses all forms of social media, hence the reason why for announcing the group buy in multiple locations in the first place.
I know I certainly don't want to go to 2 or 3 different places just to keep up one one single project.

Holidays have pushed some things back a little but, but as far as January shipping, it is still accurate. Currently doing QC on all the PCBs and taking the necessary steps to get them into the Via Configurator. Additionally, the Lumina plates will be shipped to me shortly.

Acrylic plates and bases are also in production now as well, and will be done fairly soon.

My apologies for the lack of updates the last couple of weeks. Turns out working with manufacturers sometimes can be infuriatingly slow, and I have been pushing various places for orders.

However, I can give you an update on plates, all of which have been ordered and are being made. This includes the brass, aluminum, and acrylic plates, as well as the acrylic bases for the Lumina.

In addition, the Waldo PCB code is being reviewed right now, and updated in accordance to the QMK Config Guidelines, and simultaneously being prepped for VIA Configurator integration. There will be also Extra stock available of the Waldo pcbs, if anyone needs/wants them, at a later date.

Machining of the Corian pieces and Metal bases is underway as well, and I hope I can push the  manu to set up a time for me to go and get progress photos for everyone. Machining is taking quite a bit longer than I had hope, as the number of orders we have gotten for this group buy far exceeded what we were anticipating would happen(future group buys will be run differently/potentially limited for my sanities sake), as we hit just over 120 orders total.

Again apologies for the lack of communication the last couple weeks, and thank you for being patient.

Here is a photo of the Acrylic Plates, the rest of the batch will be arriving shortly, and I will post a picture of the entire order of acrylic plates when they arrive: https://imgur.com/j44MjC1

In addition, as soon as possible, I will post high res photos of the Lumina in other material color choices.

Quote
Still Aiming for Feb. Plates and Acrylic bases are on the way to me, and the other case parts are still being machined.

Also still waiting on my PCB guy to do what needs to be done for VIA support :/

Not sure when the Jan estimate became Feb, but hopefully it'll ship this month!

Another update from Tes yesterday. Sit tight everybody, no need to be upset over delays and such, a delayed game will eventually be good, a rushed game will be forever bad. You'll be shocked upon seeing the sheer volume of parts that tes alone have to manage and QC.

yeah getting updates from discord is pretty common practice for group buys around here. Remember that the group buy runner is literally one person, with a full time job and his own life. This isn't a company with a ton of resources and paid labor. We have gotten updates and pics proving that things are moving, but group buys are not a race, and typically take awhile. You'll be okay, be patient lol.

I've seen this argument come up a lot, and I would agree that it's not unheard of, but I don't know if I would call it common.
After all, why even mention the group buy or interest check at all on a forum in the first place?  Because there are more people browsing for these things here than on Discord.
I have always maintained, (and always shall do so) that the majority of updates should be on the medium or service where the majority of buyers found/bought it.
I agree, it can be a lot of work for one person organizing it all - but all that person has to do is just keep the main info source updated. (Such as this thread.)
It's not the buyer's responsibility to chase down this information all over the hills.   We know long stretches of time will pass with nothing to report, that's part of the process.  But we also want reassurances that the person running the show hasn't run off with our money, never to be heard from again.  (A worse case scenario, and its happened to me on Kickstarter.)  And all it takes for that reassurance I speak of is for the show runner to just pop in once in awhile, and chime in with a status update.

I'm not singling out this group buy at all, I've seen others better at communication but others worse by far.  This is just the standard I would hold to myself if I was the person running a similar project.

I’d prefer seeing updates posted here as well. In terms of supplying group buy info, I don’t see how having a separate discord adds any benefits. That being said, the discord is nice to communicate with other buyers but shouldn’t be used to release project updates.

yes agree with above. posting here is more official and professional. the discord is full of a ton of unnecessary conversation.

a post every two week even if its just to say "no update" is better than radio silence.

Any updates on the new manufacturer?

I have been notified that new base samples are done, and I am waiting for them to get to me now. Also looking to test corian with the new manufacturer, and completely move operations to the new manu if the bases look as good as the photos they sent me do(being low resolution factory photos).

One cool thing about the new manu for the bases currently is that I am upgrading everyone to PVD brass bases from the original polished brass bases. Once they get here, I will be posting photos with the bases and making a more substantial update. However, here is an image sent to me from the new manu with the brass base: https://imgur.com/fmNhr0Q

Now that the plates, bases, And PCBs look to be in a good place, what’s the status on the Corian parts?

Right now, I am currently awaiting the samples of lumina corian parts from the new manu, which I have tracking for. The estimated delivery is Monday, and assuming everything looks good, I will be placing a new order for corian parts. As for leadtime, I am taking extra care to make sure that the quality of this new place is where I want it to be. Given the fact that people have been waiting a while, I want to make sure that what gets shipped out is the best quality I can provide. Until I confirm quality, I will not give a lead time on the corian parts. However, I will be settling all of those details this upcoming week(thankfully).

I hope so.  I was super interested in this board, but can't use 60% or smaller--I've tried, it's just not my thing, so I didn't join for this round.

Looking forward to seeing how the white-black-rose gold combo featured in the OP turns out; it would have been the one I'd have ordered.  Unless the white material stains or yellows easily.

Fortunately, liquids can't penetrate Corian, and unless you're putting Cheetoh dust and lots of other oily food particles on there and letting them sit, you should be totally fine. It's a relatively durable material, and if there is any minor scratching done to the material, you can generally use fine sandpaper and something like a ScotchBrite pad to clear them out.

Except it was not really an update at all. It's just the same "hopes" he's had since the group buy started. Nothing transparent about his expectations for the manufacturer or how that communication is going. I don't see how anyone can read that and feel better about the groupbuy, as the post condemning his behavior is true and representative of the information we are still getting. I need more than a "everything is finally on track, I promise." after all that ****.

With the $40 PCB, my elderberry and brass build was $437. Other color options were priced around $50 less, and the acrylic bottoms were cheaper than the brass.

Filed PayPal claim. Buyer protection period is over but it seems like I might as well try to get some recourse--worst that can happen is I lose. Having been bitten by some bad GBs previously & perceiving the tenor of criticisms leveled against Greenwald and his woefully inadequate response on Reddit, I have the feeling this won't end up ever getting delivered.

I don’t understand the PayPal situation at all. How come no other group buys have this problem? What is special about this one that led to this crazy locked money situation? I feel bad for Teslestron if everything is indeed out of his hands as he puts it but the whole post was written in a very woe is me attitude and doesn’t really give any details on exactly why this is such an issue. $400 let down is a lot to swallow.

Here is my email exchange with Greenwald back in April. At that time he claimed "half the parts are done being machined" and "we have rushed ordered more material to a very reliable and high quality factory from one of our connections..." and indicated another update would happen in a week. His latest reddit post is completely devoid of any mention of these things. Something is not adding up.

i'm in for $387 (with shipping) as well; cosmos prima with brass plate and weight. certainly a fairly hefty sum but it does seem like it could've been worse.

$400 let down is a lot to swallow.

yeah, i don't get this either. the part of tes's recent post where he mentioned that the funds were locked and that paypal expected him to get a loan or something just left me confused. i don't understand if paypal routinely does this and if other gb runners experience this, or if this only happened in this specific circumstance. he mentioned something about a board getting refunded when talking about this but without any context for what went wrong it just feels confusing and opaque. it would seem like either something specific happened to cause the funds to be locked, or this happens with any larger gb and tes just wasn't prepared for that.

either way, it doesn't seem like paypal is going to re-open the funds anytime soon so i'm not sure what the plan moving forward is, though tes has said he's working on another post where he'll explain what happens next. i hope the boards do actually get produced, but i'm not really holding my breath anymore.

Iirc, it went something like : tes used his personal PayPal account, didn't let PayPal know, so they locked his money when they saw $40k come in, suspected laundering. Tes panicked and tried to get money in various other ways, some questionable. Manus kept delaying his order, for other reasons.

Now he's trying to get things back on track, but PayPal is likely still holding his money, making it awkward to deal with the (third) manu.

Yeah that's what I've gleaned too. He made some account mistake and as all the funds poured in PayPal locked his account. He can neither pay the manufacturer, nor supply refunds, except out of his own personal funds (and maybe a very limited trickle from the PayPal account?), and was terrified to tell us for fear that we'd all bail and ask for our money back making him totally bankrupt. Meanwhile PayPal's position is that he should take out a loan from PayPal to refund people their money if they ask, and it's otherwise not their problem. The whole situation sounds super ****ty, and he's taken on extra projects to help with cash flow but is now just buried in unfinished promises.

That all said, despite him being disorganized and having made some bad decisions, I still trust we'll eventually get our boards, and I'm not in a hurry, and I'm still looking forward to mine. I've got plenty of things to type on in the meantime.

What makes me most suspicious is that because of the "manufacturing drama" and whatever he convincingly (and conveniently) pulled the wool over our eyes until we were past the 180 day PayPal protection mark.

I just got off the phone with a very helpful representative in Paypal's fraud department.

This is, in short, what they told me:

All in all... this doesn't look good. It pains me to say this, because I've vouched for Teslatron for some time now; I still don't believe he set out to scam people with any of his projects, and I was sure as **** looking forward to the Lumina. But if we don't get an update in the next few weeks, I'll be contacting my credit card company for a chargeback.

Edit: in the off chance that there is still in fact an ongoing problem with the LuminaKB Paypal account, is it possible to get at least some cases made, in order to get the reserve lifted after? Or at least ship me my damn plates, PCBs, and bottoms, so I can make an acrylic case.

Hi All,

I would like to share my experience in making a Paypal claim for the refund on the Lumina GB:

Now, I have no idea what this means, but I would say I have never seen or heard of Paypal deciding to give a refund before the seller's response period had finished. It is even more noteworthy because the paypal guarantee period has expired, but PayPal refunded me anyway. I don't know what it means--I don't know if it means Greenwald is more blameworthy than he's letting on, or less blameworthy and somehow Paypal feels it's at fault, or if PayPal talked to Greenwald and he decided not to dispute the claim--but I did think it is highly unusual and that the group-buy participants should learn of my experience so they can draw their own conclusions and make informed decisions. I will say I have no animosity toward Greenwald; everyone makes mistakes or gets in over their heads. But OTOH this GB appears far from guaranteed to be completed successfully and people should keep that in mind.

Hi All,

I would like to share my experience in making a Paypal claim for the refund on the Lumina GB:

  • Made paypal claim June 7th, after the claims period had expired
  • Paypal responded with its traditional email saying seller has 10 days to respond
  • Paypal did not wait the 10 days for a seller response, and instead emailed me today that "We reviewed the information regarding the case below and have decided in your favor" without the seller having  provided a response

Now, I have no idea what this means, but I would say I have never seen or heard of Paypal deciding to give a refund before the seller's response period had finished. Thanks for the update. I'm going to wait for one more update, which according to the reddit post is going to be this Friday, and then I might have to jump ship as well.

Just to clarify, I refunded the order. I am aware that people will want refunds, and while I am working on the next update, I have also been working on accommodating people who might want refunds. I have also been searching for people to take over spots for people who do not wish to be in the GB anymore. I have every plan to finish this group buy to the end, but I just wanted to clear up that information for you.

Hey All, update number 3 here, going to keep it short and simple.

For the last week, I have been working on logistics concerning refunds and spot transfers, which is why I have not shared the spreadsheet with everyone. I want to make sure that the names/people’s orders are settled so that I don’t share the document with people who do not wish to receive unnecessary emails or notifications if they are no longer involved in the buys.

Moving on to the important stuff: Lumina. As for the future of the Lumina GB production, I have a roadmap for how production will proceed. I have talked with the Manu doing the Corian, and have been able to convince them to split it into 3 batches of the entire order, which will allow me to effectively pay for each batch within my financial capabilities and the money I have secured for the production. A tentative roadmap to produce the parts is as follows: I estimate the first batch of shipping Luminas will be no shorter than one month from now, assuming there are no delays with production or shipments. The second and third batches will not be long after, as I have been and will be working earning more money to cover the rest of the parts. The next month will consist of me working and borrowing money to keep paying production invoices. My plan is to pay for the first batch invoice within the next 1 to 2 weeks. Of course, I will update information on this with the next update, one week from now.

Addressing the one off and private buys, in addition to the Lumina Manus, I will be using additional manufacturers to produce parts for those products. For most of the private buys and one offs, I already have purchased materials. Pretty much all that is left is to pay for manufacturing for the various parts, as well as various finishing, which includes but is not limited to cerakoting and anodizing.

As usual, if there are any concerns, reach out to me, and I will do my best to provide updates.

Just to clarify. If say Batch #1 is already completed from the manufacturer, would it be ready to ship out or would there be any other steps that you need to do before it can be shipped out? I am asking so that I can anticipate other delays that may occur. I hope it is not a case where you do the manufacturing in batches but at the end of the day you still need to wait for every single batch before you proceed on to the next step.

So much for that. What's the new ETA? What are we waiting on? Are funds available to finish the GB?

If we don't get an update by November 15 I'm filing a fraud dispute with my credit card company. That's more than enough time to literally just post an update with the current project status.

The only components he doesn't have on-hand for batch 1 is the corian tops, which should have arrived weeks ago. The factory gave a 2-week turnaround estimate, but we all know what factory estimates are good for. Afaik Tes is still trying to get a straight answer out of the factory, and once he does we'll see an update. He's also working on trying to ship the VIAs that came to him recently

This is all we needed to know.

Just to be clear, this is now the 2nd factory that mysteriously stopped responding to Tes.

Is that suspicious or am I just paranoid?

The VIAs that I cerakoted have been with him for a over a month now. I hope those aren't the ones that he "recently" got. I hope the ones that I mailed to him are to their rightful owners. I hope to at least get my board, but have a good feeling that I probably never will, the worst part is that I gave him a TX-CP for it, so there is no way for me to get my money back. I know he is working on trying to get the Lumina GB taken care of but I hope he doesn't forget about all the rest of us that ordered special commissions and other boards from him.

Same. This is how you have to operate in this hobby. If you can't just as easily light the money on fire as you can throw it at a GB, then you shouldn't throw it at a GB.

IIRC, the official GB period was between August and late September 2018. The site was still accepting orders well after the deadline, though.

He's not gone, probably just busy. He PM'd me the other day to let me know that he mailed out some of the VIAs. Lightning built one on his stream the other day and posted pics on reddit and discord. I'm not too sure if he mailed out the Luminas that he had ready to go yet or not.

It'd be a lot cooler if he posted a public update of the status for everyone invested, instead of PM you about shipping a few VIAs

There aren’t any Luminas ready to ship because he hasn’t received any corian tops. The shipment was supposedly lost... TWICE, which is obviously hard to believe.

Maybe you're not in the Discord server.

Currently rubbermilitia (who was just supposed to be doing communication and wrap-up work) seems to be getting the run-around by Tesletron, who still has sole control over the finances and manufacturer contact information.

This was not just poor planning (by someone who had personal connections with experienced designers/vendors and some experience of their own manufacturing). If we are to believe the story we are told about a factory ghosting, a lost shipment by another factory, then that factory ghosting on what should have been a replacement shipment, we would need to be extraordinarily unlucky.

Yet if you do some back-of-the-envelope math there should still be enough money to finish the GB, although maybe it's getting down to the wire.

What's more likely at this point is that Tesletron spent GB money on things other than the GB and now plans to delay it forever, or had planned to run other GBs/one-offs/commissions in order to make up the deficit until things started falling apart and they were called out on Reddit.

Recall that the first delays occurred right after the 180 day Paypal window closed, among many other unfortunate coincidences.

I'm not saying this is definitely what happened, but that's starting to look like the most logical explanation.

He's completely ghosted all of us for over 2 months. There are no excuses for this regardless of the circumstances.  If he's still communicating with rubber or any other community members and not the hundreds of people in this group buy, than he is still a disrespectful lying immature ****. Delivering the product at this point won't change that. He cannot and should not be trusted.

so what was even the point of coming back promising to fulfill these boards, vowing to provide better communication, and going as far as to provide weekly updates? we're back to square one with a total drop-off in communication, and are seemingly no closer to having our luminas. i genuinely wish tes would have just ghosted us and disappeared completely instead of dragging this out for so, so long. this has been such an odd and confusing saga, and i regularly kick myself for paying nearly $400 to be a part of it.

Draw the time out. Most people's anger will slowly die out to a point where they accept their losses, know there is nothing they can do, and just forget about getting screwed over. It's softening the blow. You kinda explained everything yourself. This is an odd and confusing saga that is tiring to keep up with. It's tiring to keep caring about this thing after a year. Every day you expect an update on this is just another day you are torturing yourself. Time will make the people who joined in become jaded. Hell would have been raised if this all happened abruptly. Now its late enough in the game where everything will just fizzle out

You could pursue a refund via a credit card, or if you really have no other recourse you can file a complaint in small claims court

It seems like if money is really still locked up in paypal then if enough people emailed pay pal about the situation we could perhaps have in unlocked and refunded? I say let's give it a try.... I'd have some sympathy for Ganesha if he wasnt hiding away and not answering any posts and basically lying to everyone about his actions. Threatening him bodily is f'd up, but financially at this point is warranted... I'll be placing a PP complaint today and hope all do as well.

The money is not locked up. I contacted PayPal months ago about this exact issue: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=97020.msg2773078#msg2773078

I know several people who are working on this process. I am doing it as well. I just haven't had the time to make PDFs and screenshots of all the false claims Tesletron has made about this and other GBs.

not yet, i was waiting for this update, i just hope ganesh understands that at a certain point this is considered theft. there are a lot of people in this gb, which means there's a lot of money. we can wait, and wait, but eventually we either get boards, our money, or ganesh will be designing in jail.

i just contacted paypal and was told to talk to my bank and if that doesn't work, file a police report.
Used to work for eBay. When we said this type of thing it meant your likely SOL. Local police rarely do anything about these situations unfortunately. At least that's the impression I got when people actually spoke to the police.

Hope you get your board or money back.

Anyone successfully submitted a chargeback or claim with their bank? I'm going to go through the process with regions later this week or next. I'll update with all the information on the process and outcome.

I could see local police not doing much for a single individual with a "negligible" loss. Perhaps a good amount of you can coordinate via a discord server/channel and then reach out to his local police department. I am willing to bet they assign a detective with a good amount of complaints logged, at the very least they will check into it.

I mean, I'd rather just get my bank involved and either get my money back or cut my losses entirely.

Not specifically this, but I've charged back purchases over a year old on AMEX cards with no issue

I think everyone would prefer a board, else they would not have joined the GB. I am glad I got my money back, you can probably kiss any thoughts of ever owning a production lumina board goodbye.

Hello all,

Please feel free to join the 'lumina refugees' server, created in order to keep all participants in contact and allow people with active disputes to share their experience and possibly help others.

I heard from Tes again today, and we're working on a new method of getting *something* out to gb participants. Having worked closely with Tes since this gb went downhill, I'm confident that he is not a thief, and this gb was not created to steal your money. Rather, the gb was horribly mismanaged and ran out of capital before completion. For the participants, this is hardly a distinction considering you are all still empty handed. But it does mean that Tes is still sitting on a lot of material and components which can be leveraged to mitigate everyone's losses in this gb; and he is working with me on a solution.

If you're actively disputing or if you feel that disputing is the right choice for you, please do proceed with it, but I do ask that the participants consider hearing us out before disputing en masse. We're meeting tonight and will have a proposal for you guys as soon as possible.

I am also a participant of this gb; 450$ out. But I believe this gb is in some way salvageable. If the time comes that our salvage ideas don't work out, and disputes are literally the only possible way forward, I will be there to encourage and assist the participants in taking that measure.

Stay tuned on this. Updates will likely not be posted here, but will be in discord.

You 'heard from tes today'? Why doesn't he post himself? Also, not all of us use discord. Regardless, when you speak of a new method to getting something out to ALL PARTICIPANTS, that includes everyone involved in the group buy, regardless of whether they join the discord, right?

Tes is a great designer, but I think I'm better suited to communication, so I'm doing what I can to help keep things clear and succinct. You will hear from him directly when the proposal is ready.

Yes, all participants includes non-discord users. When the proposal is ready, it will be posted here, and any vital updates or requests for feedback will be posted here as well.

It's going to take awhile to gather all the info we need to create the proposal, so I wanted to loop everyone in to what's happening and why. Feel free to ask questions as you have them. I'll be compiling a list of questions to answer in the Q&A section of the official proposal, so do not expect an immediate answer.

THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL PROPOSAL, JUST AN UPDATE.

----
**Basic idea of the proposal:**
Group buy has run out of capital and is dead in the water. Tes has not been able to stay on top of the gb or updates, and did not manage cost properly. Most of us still want a board but no longer trust Tes to handle this. Idea is to transfer all the group buy components, materials, etc from Tes to myself (rubbermilitia). After the transfer, Tes is no longer involved in gb cash, nor responsible for updates/orders/communication/etc; rather, Tes remains on only as a product consultant/designer and collects no additional cash in any way. Rubber collects a cash infusion from participants (we're aiming for this to be <100$ per person, but won't have actual details on that until later). Complete the group buy with downgraded components (no alum bottoms, no brass anything, likely to be replaced by acrylic). Anyone who is unable or unwilling to participate in the 'rescue group buy' will likely have to wait for Tes to generate the funds to refund them, with the help of whatever is left over from the rescue gb (cash/components/etc). *I am not inheriting Tes' obligations to participants.*

**Steps to take:**
1. Gather Information to determine our current situation *- we are here*
2. Figure out exactly what components/materials/etc we need to get this gb to done state (with downgraded components)
3. Get quotes from manufacturers near me (rubbermilitia)
4. Figure out how much capital we need to complete gb with downgraded components
5. Write proposal including detailed plan of attack, quotes, MOQs, photos, and Q&A
6. Approach participants with proposal
7. Hand off group buy (Tes>rubber), collect capital infusion from participants
8. Complete group buy with downgraded components
9. Update on a weekly basis

----
**What we've gotten done:**

- Contacted manufacturer local to Tes who has all the raw material on hand (I was cc'd on the email, saw response from him firsthand). He refuses to take inventory of material/completed parts/half-finished parts, etc, so we're not sure exactly what he has/what state it is in. He wants an address to ship the material to, and won't consider actually finishing the project. In fact he gave us a deadline of 04/27/2020 to give him an address to ship to. I'm not sure how he has all the material, or why he's out of patience, but I won't be digging into that- the info we're collecting is just to help with the hand-off and **as I've said before, my plan is not to audit the failure of Tes' run of this gb**. We will likely need to ship all of this material directly to me very soon to maintain possession of these materials, and take photos/inventory to determine what remains to be completed.

- Took exact inventory of what Tes has on hand (PCBs, bases, plates, corian bottoms), along with multiple photos and timestamps

- Spoke with my lawyer to determine the proper path to transfer the group buy to me, including components, materials, and obligation to make best effort to complete the group buy. I was able to get the information I need to be confident inheriting this mess. I would essentially only be inheriting the components + materials, with a written intent to make best effort at fulfillment.

----
**What we're currently working on:**

- Tes is updating master spreadsheet of everyone who joined the gb, to make sure we are aware of our current active buyers, refunds which went out early in the buy, etc. Need this to be accurate and current so we know which participant is owed what.

- I am working on collecting all/any documentation related to this gb that I can. Again, I'm not going to spend hours piecing together a paper trail to determine exactly where Tes went wrong. My only goal is to finish what he started.

- Tes and I are working on figuring out what we can seed in the 'rescue fund' (cash infusion I mentioned earlier). Goal is to get a chunk of cash from Tes, and some mech keyboard stuff. I can also put forward some cash and some keyboard stuff, like a gherkin, switches, etc. I have no obligation to do this but I also want the rescue gb to succeed. We are discussing the possibility of using these donated items as incentives for higher contribution to the rescue fund. Or possibly just selling them to add the cash to the rescue fund.

- Tes and I are working on getting the materials shipped from the manufacturer directly to me (Tes has no room to store it, and we don't have a new factory yet, nor do we want to jump the gun on choosing a factory just to have somewhere to store materials.)

----
**Final thoughts for now**
Please remember this is in early stages, and I would like to hear your thoughts, but I do not want to be spammed with questions about Tes' mistakes. This is a large undertaking and there is still a lot of info to collect, but I am willing to move forward with making this happen if I have majority support from the participants. We will be polling the participants after the actual proposal is released to get an idea of what % of participants are on board. It is likely that if we see <50% support, I will be stepping down from any involvement with the gb, and letting it run whatever course it would have without intervention.

THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL POLL, but it would be nice to get an early gauge of how many people are on board for this idea, so if you are FOR or AGAINST it, please feel free to comment or PM me. Since this isn't the official poll, I'm not requesting order #'s with votes yet, so please use the honor system and only respond if you're a participant.

Thank you for your time

PS I have nothing to do with one-offs and do not have answers to any of those questions. Lumina 60 gb is the only thing this rescue gb will address.

PPS Tes is dead broke, in debt, credit is destroyed, and the gb is at an indefinite standstill. You can't throw him in jail over this (regardless of what some people inexplicably think), and the cost to sue the money out of him would be more than the cost of the board..and then even if you win the suit, good luck collecting. On top of that, no attorney is going to touch a class action suit for such a small amount (~35k total collected from participants), and you would need a lot more cash than the rescue gb to even cover attorney fees. Plus pp dispute window expired, and the charge is too far past to have a hope of your bank doing anything (Please let us know if you were *recently* able to get a refund from a claim at your bank, so others can have this as an option, but this doesn't seem likely). Tes is determined to finish this (hence the fact that he is still holding on to all components and materials and working through this proposal with me), but it would take him years to gather the funds to either complete or refund all kits.

I have thought at length about other ways out of this mess for us participants, and discussed multiple times with my small business lawyer. The only way we get these boards is if we take action. My goal here is to deliver *something* to all of us participants who have no other options left, and I'm in a position where Tes is willing to hand over all components and materials and step aside.

It's a rare thing that a group buy fails so miserably, but I have faith that we can pull together as a community to get this done. We're only doing this if it's what you guys want to do.

I think your proposal "draft" as it is presented here may be the best possible outline for what is obviously the most unfortunate of circumstances.
Obviously, not everyone will be on board - they will cut their losses and be done with the matter.  But for anyone who is still looking to get *something* for all their investment, I don't think I could see any better approach.

I believe I will be staying on board to see this through.

First of all, I wouldn't expect anyone to pay any more money regarding what has happened. Around 100$ extra for a downgraded version doesn't seem logical for anyone to pay.
Secondly, your "update" is contradicting itself. On the one hand you are saying, that you will try to build up a rescue fund with cash and keeb stuff from Tes and on the other hand, you are saying that he is dead broke?!
Dear god that I didn't join this GB. I would seriously advise anyone to not give them any more money.

The idea that you would ask for a customer infusion beyond what they have already paid is absurd at best.

Anyone who is thinking of contributing any more money to this mess should assume it is going into a black hole and that’s it.

Good on you for trying to do what you can, but yeah I don't see this happening.

I was in for the brass one, I'm not about to pay close to 900usd (with import fees) for some acrylic board. :D

What I really want debunked is why he lied over and over and over and over and over again? Even when called out for lies, he kept lying and digging the well deeper and deeper.

your "update" is contradicting itself. On the one hand you are saying, that you will try to build up a rescue fund with cash and keeb stuff from Tes and on the other hand, you are saying that he is dead broke?!

Ok you're right, I should clarify this. We're hoping Tes sees a stimulus check to put towards this. Also, this rescue gb will take awhile to plan and set up, so the goal is to have him send whatever he can spare out of every pay check directly to me throughout the planning process, so that we can start with the rescue fund seeded. This wouldn't be enough cash to refund more than 2 people probably, but it would be a nice seed for the rescue fund. In addition, he has already sold all of his mech keyboard stuff except for an HHKB and potentially some small things like switches (not sure yet, waiting to hear back on exactly what he has.) He would also put the HHKB and whatever else he has towards the rescue fund.

I have heard from a lot of people about how this rescue gb would be unfair to everyone who bought a commission or one-off or trade from Tes that would be left empty-handed. I agree, but if we can't fix the entirety of the problem, we should start with a smaller piece. Inability to fix the whole thing at once is not a good reason to avoid rescuing the lumina 60 gb.

I have talked with Tes, and decided that if we get >50% support from participants and decide to move forward with this, *before I inherit/start the group buy*, Tes will publicly post a list of every outstanding commitment he has to the community, with a promise to use this rescue gb as a jump-start to fulfilling or refunding all of those projects. Tes has around 30 one-offs/commissions/trades that he never fulfilled. If we get the entirety of the lumina gb off his plate, he can focus on handling these other obligations.

So let me get this straight. If 50% of people already in the hole give some commitment to fork over more money, only then will he own up to what he owes? The same person who was giving monthly updates about new orders being placed with new manufacturers, things nearly ready to ship and a receipt for the new orders made forthcoming etc and then total silence again? Sounds legit.

Just throwing this out there, and big ups to rubbermilitia for trying to help bring this to some sort of improved conclusion than the status quo - but given the history here, and given also that you will presumably be in charge of the remainder of the process rubbermilitia, shouldn't you front the capital to get it done? then once it's done, you can deliver the goods to the initial GB participants for an additional $100 (or you could build a book of demand for initial GB participants only and set the clearning price that way) and then - if they don't want to do that - you can sell their boards in whatever manner you choose?

Of course, I still think you need their approval to go down this road, but I understand people's hesitancy to hand over more money given the history and given they're not in control of the process from here (but you are). I think you're best placed to price the capital needed given you're best placed to understand the risk from hereon out.

From what I see, some trust needs to be restored period.

I'd suggest lots of pics and timestamps to start.  It's really hard to trust walls of text that end with requests for money.

Then, I'd target maybe 5 to get done and out to people (like prototypes basically), to show progress can be made (however small). Then maybe 25 more, then the rest.

Sorry I'm not responding to everyone, but I want to keep the thread relatively clean from here just by responding to comments which seem constructive, and which don't ask questions/raise concerns I already addressed in the long update.

shouldn't you front the capital to get it done? then once it's done, you can deliver the goods to the initial GB participants for an additional $100 (or you could build a book of demand for initial GB participants only and set the clearning price that way) and then - if they don't want to do that - you can sell their boards in whatever manner you choose?

I understand this idea, and it's not a bad one. But I'm not willing to take this entire thing on my shoulders by fronting thousands of dollars. The amount of work to finish this gb is already immense. I do not feel obligated to also pay for the entire thing. I understand people are hesitant with forking over more cash for something they already paid for, but the money isn't going to Tes, its going to me.

If the original gb members are willing to come together in solidarity and support me on this, then this rescue gb will happen, and they will end up with a board they likely never would have gotten. Otherwise they won't. I'm ok with walking away with my 450$ lost, but I would prefer a board for 550$. Remember, this ~$100 number is still just spitballing for now, but you get the point.

So let me get this straight. If 50% of people already in the hole give some commitment to fork over more money, only then will he own up to what he owes?

From my conversations with Tes over the last year, he desperately wants to own up to everything he owes. He will be publishing the list of commitments along with the proposal, so the list will be public regardless of whether this gb moves forward. All I was saying is that he is deep in the hole, and getting the lumina off his back would make it much more financially feasible for him to actually address his commitments as far as one-offs/commissions/trades. The goal of the rescue gb is not to get him off the hook for anything. I am the one who requested he publish the commitments list with the proposal, and he agreed.

From what I see, some trust needs to be restored period.

I'd suggest lots of pics and timestamps to start.  It's really hard to trust walls of text that end with requests for money.

I agree! The actual proposal will include:

And I can promise consistent updates. Factory will be local to me.

Then, I'd target maybe 5 to get done and out to people (like prototypes basically), to show progress can be made (however small). Then maybe 25 more, then the rest.

Well, ordering in low-MOQ batches like this to prove progress would be more expensive than necessary. And ordering 5 prototypes at once is inadvisable. But I agree that as soon as the factory has produced the first prototype, plenty of pics and timestamps need to be taken. And I agree that shipping them out as they are finished would help keep people confident in the project. I will do what I can to be transparent, update often, and get this done and out to participants quickly.

**Update 04/25/2020**

- ~~Tes and I are working on figuring out what we can seed in the 'rescue fund' (cash infusion I mentioned earlier). Or possibly just selling them to add the cash to the rescue fund.~~
Tes has given a list of items he will be contributing to the rescue fund, and has started sending cash every paycheck. I've received one payment from him as of 04/25/20

- ~~Tes is updating master spreadsheet of everyone who joined the gb, to make sure we are aware of our current active buyers, refunds which went out early in the buy, etc. Need this to be accurate and current so we know which participant is owed what.~~
Tes has updated the master spreadsheet accounting for refunds. He is doing one final review of it just to be sure. This spreadsheet will be published along with the proposal. Usernames will be anonymous unless you reach out and specify that you're ok with your username being included

- ~~Tes and I are working on getting the materials shipped from the manufacturer directly to me (Tes has no room to store it, and we don't have a new factory yet, nor do we want to jump the gun on choosing a factory just to have someone to store materials.)~~
The manufacturer has agreed to ship the items directly to me (rubbermilitia). His latest update is: *"I will schedule the freight company to pick up the skid of materials next week and will email the pro number for the shipment to you once the shipment is processed."* As soon as I have all of the materials in my possession, the next step is to take inventory in order to determine how much additional material/manufacturing is required.

What we're currently working on:

- Tes and I are working on compiling a list of all one-offs/commissions/trades that he committed to and did not fulfill. This list will be posted publicly along with the official proposal. This is Tes' current top priority. He is also working on providing a status for each one-off (some are in various stages of completion, others are not started, etc)

UPDATE: Still nothing from manu, they have not sent tracking number as promised. We will follow up with him again on Jun 19, possibly with a demand letter. In the meantime, as promised, I have updated the spreadsheets: https://imgur.com/a/qzs9ley. I have also included the timestamps that Tes took near the start of the month here: https://imgur.com/a/gGfdqiF, which match up with the 'Tes Status' column on the one-off spreadsheet. Next, we are working on counting exactly how many additional components we need for each member to get a complete kit (for every component that is NOT corian, since we're still waiting on manu to ship corian so we know what we have/need for corian), and after that we will start looking at quotes.  Thank you guys for your patience and LMK if there are questions.

I PM'd you trying to get access to the discord, the Lumina65 that was traded for a TX65 was actually traded for a TXCP, I'm willing to just have all the raw parts shipped to me and finding a manu here locally to finish making the board for me or making other stuff out of the parts.

Probably. Just contacted manufacturer again, still ghosting us. Every time we call factory he (our point of contact) is 'away' and they 'take a message'. Any time we call his cell, he doesn't pick up. We don't have any money to file a law suit and even if we did, it might not be worth it considering the ratio of the cost of filing vs cost of materials. However, it would only cost 200-500$ for demand letter from a business lawyer local to the factory, so that will probably be our last ditch effort to try to scare them into responding. To reiterate, we have heard absolutely nothing since the April 24 email from the manu ((https://i.imgur.com/m76tuFY.png), 2 months, 14 days ago), in which he claimed he would ship 'next week'.

Without the materials, the rescue gb isn't happening, unless we want to explore options like turning all corian parts into alum and manufacturing the whole thing in china. Even then, would have to run the numbers to see if its affordable enough to be worth it for participants.

Looking into VA lawyer this week, but likely we're losing the materials. So at this point, assuming that we are not going to get the material back, my plan is to figure out how much it would cost to finish the group buy with new (cheapest possible) material and a new manufacturer. @lukelex Helping me get some quotes, and helping with design updates. To facilitate this, please see the updated spreadsheet (https://imgur.com/a/o6ijCwg). Also if you have any ideas on where to get the material/where to manu please reach out!! My :door: is open

Incorrect. There are pretty positive outcomes from the rescue. Namely:

* Participants got the design files, which I in turn managed to get one made for myself;
* We have some of the materials and we are still pursuing a viable option to manufacture the missing parts;
* Closure over what happened;

Now, whether you agree with that being a positive outcome it's up to you.

Very exciting...I called ups store near Tes and paid 220$ for the packaging and shipping of everything Tes dropped off.. donation items + lumina components...I have tracking and it should be here THIS THURSDAY.

For reference:

Pics of packaging: https://imgur.com/a/90PHmtc

List of items that should be included in the shipment: https://imgur.com/a/dhLxg4F

New quotes from new manus (off-brand corian): https://imgur.com/a/nJVHFZv (prices are looking very managable)

Luke's prototype from the new manu: https://imgur.com/a/XYslFH8

PM me if you are involved and want to join the discord. I will post again here when I receive the packages with a timestamp.

I'm a participant and I haven't gotten design files.

If you want design files, PM Me for discord invite where files are kept. There is a ton of info/documentation in discord. I am not spending the next hour copying it over to GH. If you are allergic to discord, I can email them to you.

Finally a substantial update. Please review imgur link below where you can see the items we have gotten from Tes. At this point we're not waiting on Tes to ship the remaining components, nor are we waiting on a manu (materials are gone for sure)- so we're free and clear to tackle this. Please look forward to an official proposal!

No real updates at the moment. As I have mentioned in the discord sever, I had a lot of life changes recently including an ongoing move/renovation of new house so I have been super busy.

But this project is very much still on, and my best guess for when I can tackle this is q1/2 this year.

The raw materials that were stuck at the manufacturer are definitely gone at this point. Our guess is he sold them off to make up for holding them on his floor for months without charging Tes storage fees. Tes and the manu both messed things up for the rest of us, but we can still make it out of this with a board. Everything pictured in my previous post is still here with me, and we're still looking at giving all original participants a rescue gb slot (and some people that got screwed for one-offs).

That rescue gb slot will entitle them to a ~100$ full lumina kit with acrylic+corian components (no alum/brass). We are able to do this at such a low cost due to already having many components on hand, having some decent donation items (from Tes) to sell to create a 'rescue fund seed', and just as crucially, having new quotes from a new manufacturer which uses off-brand corian. The material is essentially corian, but without the extra cost that comes with the name brand.

Further gbs will be run after lumina is complete to manufacture the alum/brass components. These gbs would be independent of the rescue gb and priced accordingly.

Please stay tuned, ty.

If anyone lives in the same state as him (SC?) I'd be more than happy to contribute funds to a lawsuit.

Wanted to post a quick update. Reached out to the two manufacturers we would be using, one of which will provide acrylic bases & brushed aluminum plates; the other will provide corian-like tops and bottoms. We heard back from the base & plate manu, and they provided us with updated manufacturing quote, shipping quote, and lead time.

Still waiting to hear back from the other manu (they haven't been active on whatsapp since march 5, so I believe they'll respond when they see it), while working on testing pcbs. Rescue gb price has not been finalized yet; still crunching numbers to enable us to collect the smallest amount possible per-participant, while still having high confidence in its success. However, I am still confident it will be around 100$. Of course, the more participants, the cheaper it will turn out per-person.

Always open to suggestions/feedback, reach out if you like.

Thank you for the update, Rubbermilitia.
And thank you for everything you’re doing for this recovery.   This project would be a more bitter pill to swallow if not for your efforts.  But this is a very unique community we find ourselves in.

Thank you for the update, Rubbermilitia.
And thank you for everything you’re doing for this recovery.   This project would be a more bitter pill to swallow if not for your efforts.  But this is a very unique community we find ourselves in.

No problem! And I appreciate that. I heard recently that this isn't the first rescue gb ever to occur, so we're not breaking new ground here. This community is more than capable of bailing itself out. And I've been waiting for a home for my NK creams and gmk monochrome for way too long lol. We probably all had build plans that got endlessly delayed.

While I'm here, another quick update. I collected the updated .step design files from @lukelex in order to confirm them with the manus, and emailed the new corian-like manu trying again to get a response. Will start looking into alternatives soon if they remain unresponsive.

The updated design files I referred to are slightly modified versions of the original lumina design files which Tes released as part of the rescue gb. Updates made by lukelex were, in his words:

"For the mathematical freaks like myself, I've changed the thickness of a few layers to be even and made sure that they are actually manufacturable. Everything is backwards compatible with the parts we have already produced."

The updated design files, and the new manufacturers, were both used to create the prototype which lukelex had made. There are pics on the discord server but I will share one here:

Lumina Rescue Interest Check

Pictured above is the prototype created with off-brand corian from the new manufacturer we will be using for the rescue gb. Prototype created by @lukelex

If you are a participant of the original Lumina 60 GB:

The Lumina Rescue is a group buy exclusively for original participants of the Lumina 60 group buy, which failed for various reasons. The GB will be subsidized using components which are already made, and in my possession (PCBs, plates, bases & bottoms). The components will be manufactured by new manus found by myself, with help from the rescue team.

The rescue gb has been extended to possibly include (based on interest):

The design has not changed, so most of what is in the original IC still applies, and all new or modified components are compatible with original design.
At this point I need information on participation & interest to nail down MOQs & pricing.

As stated before, target pricing for a basic rescue kit is 100$ or less, not including shipping.

Please visit the following link to fill out the IC form if there is any possibility that you would participate in the rescue group buy: FORM HERE (https://forms.gle/kBiKyDGAasAgVFKw7)

If you have no interest in joining the rescue gb, but still want a Waldo pcb shipped to you at the cost of shipping, please fill out this form instead: FORM HERE (https://forms.gle/kvPfysnYYun4idos8)

These two options (rescue gb OR pcb for shipping cost) are the only two avenues I will be providing for fulfillment of the original GB. Beyond that, please see FAQ below for other steps you can take yourself.

Rescue Team

If you are interested in the public GB:

Please see below section labeled "Public GB (Lumina 60 RP)". The public IC will be posted after the rescue IC is complete, with options and quantity of spots dictated by the reception of the rescue IC. Please stay tuned for a public IC, which will likely be posted in a separate post.

The public GB will be slightly higher cost than the rescue GB, but will still be well within the range for a solid budget board.

Quotes and MOQs

We have received a LOT of quotes at a few different quantity levels to gauge pricing, from many different manufacturers. Rather than dump them all here, I will provide averages at low and high MOQ.

Note: Corian = off-brand solid surface artificial stone; and corian quotes are for total parts (tops + bottoms), not x amount of each top, bottom.
Another note: We did find cheaper artificial stone, but this manu had more exciting colors and prototypes have already been made (!!) by @lukelex.

Base
- acrylic base: $8 (MOQ 85) - $15 (MOQ 35)
- aluminum base (mirror polish): $110 (MOQ 85) - $150 (MOQ 10)

Plate
- anodized alum plate: $30 (MOQ 40) - $60 (MOQ 5)
- POM plate: $26 (MOQ 40) - $30 (MOQ 19)
- CF plate: $18 (MOQ 40) - $19 (MOQ 20)

Corian
- White corian: $20 (MOQ 200) - $40 (MOQ 50) *Likely lower at MOQ 50 than 40$/unit (see other MOQ50 quotes are around 27-28$). I think this was the sales person spitballing in early talks. Asking for an update.
- Black corian: $25 (MOQ 100) - $30 (MOQ 50)
- Deep black quartz substitute Corian (PA-0093): $25 (MOQ 200) - $27 (MOQ 50)
- Cosmos prima substitute Corian (Meteor Shower): $26 (MOQ 100) - $28 (MOQ 50)
- New Orange-ish Corian (Lava): $26 (MOQ 100) - $28 (MOQ 50)
- Elderberry substitute Corian (Azure) - waiting to hear back, but likely in-line with the others

Note: We are NOT making brass available, because the cost to manufacture + ship is just too high for a rescue gb trying to keep costs low. In addition, from the prototype, we have found that brass is WAY too heavy, given that the entire triangular base is a huge chunk of brass, as opposed to being an aluminum base with a smaller brass weight screwed into it, like most keyboard designs.

Some pics of new material:

Note: each one of these colors will need to hit MOQ during interest check in order to be available for the GB.

White not pictured, as it is a simple white color, see the image at top of this post.

First I will address the items I promised to address in the 'official proposal':

Distributing existing components (Priority of options)

The GB price will be subsidized via the existing components. We have 119 pcbs, 73 plates, 18 bases, and 29 bottoms. See full inventory here. (https://imgur.com/a/l5VRDgV)

There is the challenge of determining who gets first choice of existing components (eg Deep Black Quartz bottoms, Elderberry bottoms, colored acrylic plates, etc.)

This shouldn't matter too much, as we're planning on having substitute colors for each of these options..however, we may not be able to sub all original options (due to MOQs), and even so, the choice still exists between OG Corian and subbed off-brand.

The choice will go to the highest paying members of the original group buy, who also join the rescue.

For example: after the IC is posted, I will sort the list of people interested by the amount they spent in the original gb. I will then reach out to them in order, offering the options of original parts that are up for grabs. I will do so in order until all unique original parts are spoken for.

To be clear, original GB participants will of course have precedence over the public gb when it comes to original components.

Pics and timestamps of all completed components

Please click here to see everything I received from Tes (https://imgur.com/a/J4VOv3D), with timestamps of when I received them. Click here to see updated inventory after counting what I received (https://imgur.com/a/TjH1lfU)

Pics and timestamps of the material

As per previous updates, the 'raw material' is likely gone from the manu, and we will certainly not be receiving it. The manu owner likely sold it a while ago to make up for the cost of storing it on his floor for so long without hearing from Tes.

I did manage to contact the manu owner more than once via phone and email, and he even quoted freight shipping and stated he would ship to my address 'next week', but the shipment never came, and eventually he started ignoring all efforts at communication. I have confirmed that the original manu is a legitimate US-based manu; but the situation between the manu and Tes is complicated and involves a lot of mistakes on both sides.

Please see here (https://imgur.com/a/dm3wg8O) for all the communication I have had with the manu. There were also a few phone calls but they were not recorded for obvious reasons.

I stated in earlier posts that I would be looking into sending a demand letter to the manu; however, that would be a complete waste of money, given that its an obvious empty threat, considering that Tes made plenty of mistakes himself (partial payments, long periods of radio silence, forcing manu to store materials on his floor indefinitely, etc), which would mean the manu isn't likely to be threatened by a letter, or even a lawsuit.

Luckily, we do not need the material, as off-brand corian is cheap, and the rescue kit is heavily subsidized by existing components.

Public GB (Lumina 60 RP)

"Lumina 60 Rescue-Public" - GB open to the general public, in order to fill out spots in the rescue gb that are left available after original participants join.

I am expecting the IC for participants of the original group buy to get around 30-40 responses, but we have enough components on hand to subsidize the cost of around 70 boards. And as you know, the higher the MOQ, the more savings for everyone. Also I don't want to throw away extra components which are useless without a kit.

For these reasons, I'm considering opening a second IC to the public, allowing anyone to join to fill the remaining spots, so there's no waste + a better MOQ. The options for the public IC would be based on what we're low on in the rescue IC, to help get things made (eg if the rescue IC gets only 3 users wanting CF plates, but plenty wanting POM, we could open just CF option to the public to help round the numbers)

These are initial thoughts in this direction, and subject to change. The cost for all participants would still be low as possible, and any priority of options would obviously go to original participants.

I have received feedback from some members of the original GB, and there's a consensus that this is agreeable as long as the public GB is more expensive, in order to help bring the rescue price even lower. There would not be an insane markup for the public, but likely +30-50% cost, which isn't much at these low price points (and is still much cheaper than the original gb).

List of donation items

The list of intended items to be donated from Tes to the rescue gb is included in the transfer agreement below.

A list of donation items actually received in the shipment from Tes can be seen in the timestamps imgur album above, in the "pics and timestamps of all completed components" section.

These donation items will be sold to add to the rescue fund seed, to help lower the cost of participation. They will be sold between the IC and GB phase, and therefore will be reflected in the GB pricing.

There are also extra Waldo PCBs which were ordered by Tes for future one-offs/etc, which will be sold to contribute to rescue fund.

Amount of cash 'seeded' in the rescue fund

- Tes has seeded 100$ (this was while ago, in an attempt to informally 'garnish his wages' for the gb. Only ended up getting 2 payments of 50$.)
- I covered the cost of shipping the components + donation items to myself, 237.99$ see receipt here (https://imgur.com/a/GbtBbYV)
- When donation items & extra PCBs are sold, the rescue seed will grow as well

Public release of lumina design files

- Original design files released by Tes (some things missing) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/kthw5qe0jccn68w/LuminaFilesNotes-20200708T175923Z-001.zip?dl=0)
- Updated + completed design files by lukelex. (Used to make his prototype) (https://www.dropbox.com/s/zo5gnfq6f0mzmxo/lukelex-designfiles.zip?dl=0)

Details on how cash will be collected to avoid another paypal lock situation

Tes made a lot of mistakes which are easy to avoid. I am still working out the details, but I will be collecting cash via PP business or shopify; possibly with individual invoicing in order to more tightly control participation. The service I collect payment through will be connected to a business bank account established with an EIN number received from the IRS specifically for my LLC; therefore there's no mixing of personal and gb funds, there's no risk of using a personal account for high-volume invoicing, and PP/Shopify is more likely to see the activity as legitimate, and therefore less likely to freeze funds. I will also be calling PP/shopify ahead of time in order to warn them of the cash influx, and make sure they know what to expect.

I am still deciding between PP and shopify; as I have a long-standing PP account with good history which would likely make collection a breeze; but shopify is used more often by GB runners these days, and seems easier to use for large sums such as this.

Regardless of which platform, generally, GB runners do not have issues when taking these precautions, and I have spoken to a handful of successful GB runners to create my cash collection plan.

GB transfer/ Tes involvement?

Please see the Lumina GB Transfer Agreement. (https://imgur.com/a/ryMK3Qv) This was written up with the help of a business lawyer local to me, whom I had on general counsel at the time. I prefer to do things above board, and this document establishes a clear transfer from Tes to my LLC, including the obligation to make best effort at gb fulfillment.

Therefore, Tes is not involved in any way, shape, or form in this rescue gb.

Tes list of one-off commitments

Some users agreed to having their usernames included in a public post of Tes' outstanding commitments. Others would rather remain anonymous, or I have not heard from them yet- these users are censored.

Please see Tes' updated one-off commitments here (https://imgur.com/a/liNR0g4). Tes is not involved in the Rescue GB, but I promised I would include this in the proposal.

Handling Tes one-offs

Two one-offs have been fulfilled through myself, and a third is waiting on shipping funds from the buyer for international shipment. I do not want to divulge the one-off owners, but the one-offs I fulfilled have included:

- Waldo PCB, yok red pandas & devil 60 plate
- Baguette keyboard
- (Pending) Baguette rose gold keyboard

If I have anything on hand that is owed to someone, I have made an attempt to fulfill it for them. As I mentioned before, the various one-offs that Tes accepted commissions for are not my responsibility, and I will not be going beyond offering to ship whatever I have. However, one-off folks will be offered a rescue gb slot.

Most one-offs owed to people are dead in the water due to the original manufacturer going dark, unfortunately.

Detailed plan of attack

- Get quotes for various MOQ levels to assist with determining pricing [DONE]
- Get quotes from multiple manufacturers so we have backup manus & price/options comparison [DONE]
- Write 'proposal' (this IC) addressing common concerns & establishing plan [DONE]
- Release all non-public gb info (design files, one-off backlog, manu communication, etc) [DONE]
- Collect IC data for rescue gb to identify MOQs & pricing. Also collect list of participants to want to get a PCB & move on.
- Write Public IC
- Collect IC data for public gb, with quantity of spots & options modified to assist rescue gb
- If there is not enough interest to fill spots (at least 70), consider different component options/colors, use feedback from community to repeat IC
- Proceed as soon as we can fill all spots
- At this point, begin selling donation items & extra PCBs to fund rescue seed
- Nail down payment collection method. Either PP business or shopify basic. Call payment processor & set expectations.
- Determine final price point & options for rescue & public GB, given the amount in rescue seed, MOQs, interest, etc
- Make some fun renders for the new options to include in the GB
- Figure out timeline/estimated shipping date to include in GB post. Write GB post.
- Post GB link as google form for rescue participants. Leave open for a week
- Verify that each rescue participant is indeed a member of original Lumina GB
- After rescue gb window is closed, Post GB link for public participants, with spots/options modified given the outcome of rescue gb form. Leave open for a week.
- confirm shipping address for each participant & determine shipping cost based on their location & selection (alum kits will be higher shipping cost)
- Invoice each member of rescue GB & public GB, include shipping cost with invoice so we only have to collect pmt once. Start collecting payments
- Order prototypes of parts from any new manus (for one of the corian manus, we already have a prototype via @lukelex)
- Confirm prototype components fit together, build a full board to confirm functionality & tolerances are good to go
- Redo design/prototypes as needed. Hopefully not necessary.
- Place full orders for all manufactured parts & components
- Await shipping of all parts
- Also during this window, stay in contact with factories, post updates to GH & discord
- Receive all parts
- Insert all threaded inserts into corian
- Polish corian if needed
- Run QC on all components & PCBs going out
- Begin picking & packing domestic boards
- Begin packing components for int'l boards
- Ship int'l package to EU proxy (and non-EU int'l boards individually)
- Ship domestic boards in batches
- As soon as rescue & public GB are complete and fulfilled, begin invoicing members who just want to get a PCB & move on.
- Ship PCBs

Q&A to address common concerns

- I'm a one-off buyer, do I have a gb slot? - Yes. You can fill out the rescue IC.

- I'm a one-off buyer, but I don't want to join the lumina rescue gb. What do I get? - I unfortunately have nothing else to offer. We need people to engage with the rescue effort in order to fulfill anything.

- I'm an original participant, but don't want to join the rescue gb. What do I get? - Fill out the second form, and I will ship you a Waldo PCB for the cost of shipping to you. You can still join the rescue gb later if you wish, but you'll end up paying more in shipping overall, obviously. Also I cannot gurantee your spot if you do not fill out the rescue IC.

- I'm an original participant, but don't want to join the rescue gb, nor will I pay for shipping my pcb. What can I do? - File a dispute with your bank for the transaction, feel free to join our discord and check out the #disputes channel

- How is it fair to open this gb to the public, using existing components that original participants paid for? - Nothing happens for anyone without a cash infusion. I am utilizing every avenue I can think of to subsidize and lower the cost of the rescue. This is fair in my mind, especially considering that public spots will lower the cost for rescue spots.

- Why is the rescue gb target price 100$ or less, not including shipping? I hoped it would be lower? - We could have made it a LOT lower, but that would require all acrylic (no alum bases), all white corian (no cool colors), and acrylic/alum plates (no POM or CF). The tradeoff is worth it to have good enough options to actually attract enough participants to run a successful gb.

- Who is 'Tes'? - Tesletron (GreenwaldDesigns), the original runner of the Lumina 60 gb. He is no longer involved in the project.

I'll also add at this point, as a major skeptic of anything greenwald/tessletron/etc related and totally unforgiving of him, I will be very happy to admit my cynicism was not warranted here if you pull this off. Credit where due, I'm impressed you're still seeing it though.

Yup that's Luke's prototype and ty for the confidence! I am regaining some of my free time after a busy month, and looking back into this. There have also been many conversations around payment collection, and how a public side of the GB could help round out MOQs and bring pricing down lower for gb participants.

There's still a lot of work to do but thank you for staying tuned!

Merry xmas guys
This is a work in progress, there's still a lot of kinks I'm working out, but I wanted to share. that's cerakote ruby red on snow white. There are some defects which I will soon be implementing solutions to.

This is my best attempt at attracting new customers to an older board to provide that cash infusion we need to finish this.

There will be solid color options , stenciled pattern options, clear coat additions, and more I won't mention yet

Final update: due to all kinds of barriers with cost, time, and lack of interest, this rescue effort has been ended. I have auctioned off all remaining parts (and items which Tes donated to the cause) in a closed auction available only to original participants, set aside 1-2 pcbs for each original participant that wants one, and I am in the process of finding a bulk buyer for the remainder of the PCBs (about 70x). The proceeds of the auction and PCB sale will be divided and refunded to any original participants that opted in.

I'm pretty confident I already reached out to all of the original GB members  (and any others who Tes owed a one-off) via email or discord, but if you haven't heard from me, and want to benefit from this PCB surrender or refund pool, please reach out to me.

We tried!!

Can't say how much I appreciate the support of everyone who shared kind words regarding this effort. This was worth getting to know you all.
