Feathers McGraw is an experienced seller.

Ebay works very hard to get people to list low-start auctions.

In a case like this, it won't matter because there is no way it could slip by unnoticed with a complete accurate description.

He has one negative in the past year, and he responded to that rating saying the buyer made a bad return.   From what I'm told, a seller cannot leave negative feedback for a buyer on ebay, so there's little rating threat to a buyer trying to cheat a seller.

On this item - I'm not certain if I've ever seen a ground strap on a an Industrial SSK.  That part number is the same as mine and others in the late 1992 timeframe that I've seen and none of them have ground straps.

To "get a bid in", I would suspect.  Makes it seem like you had a chance and tried, by making a safe bid on the lower side of things.  It's not really rational and I don't think anyone believes that it helps, but it might be some subconscious effort that I don't fully understand.

It works out to be the same.    If anything, starting bids low and having people fight for the auction often leads to a higher final selling price.   And what does it matter if people are sniping with $500-1000 bids?   I used to get into "Sniping" wars with others and market price will end up dictating what this board will sell for.   So based on history, it will sell for btwn $500-$1200 depending on how many deep pockets want to fight it out ....

When I'm planning to snipe something, I usually put in a minimum bid as soon as I make the decision.  This ensures I won't forget it.  I don't use the watch list for this purpose because I fill my watch list with all kinds of things I want to remember during normal shopping.  There's dozens of items on there most of which I never intend to buy so I ignore the watch list reminders.

It makes you wonder if the seller has some buddies of theirs artificially driving the prices up on popular items.  I'm not talking just keyboards, but everything.  Some prices are just illogical.  This is an excellent example.

I'm just saying that my Model F-XT is only slightly wider than my SSK Model M, but the difference in tactile feeling is drastic. The Model F is much more snappy and pleasant to type on, IMO. As sexy as the Industrial SSK in the OP is, I personally would rather spend my money on a Model F restoration project.

If I was a die-hard IBM keyboard collector, I would most likely be all over this. Just my two cents!

I know, I actually don't really like Model Ms but I went crazy when I tried Hoff and CPTs kishs. Also I'm not a fan of boards larger than 68% so I'm a bit biased toward the kish and F77(not like I'll ever own one of these).

Edit: Speaking of finding some in the wild, I've been trying with absolutely no luck
