All things considered, it looks to be in great condition.

I'll probably be bidding on this.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

This would be so nice to have. I get the feeling it'll be more expensive than my budget allows, unfortunately.

I'm surprised that last one actually sold for a somewhat reasonable price, but $500 is still pushing it, for me at least.

Starting at $0.99, I wonder if the vendor has an idea how much this thing is worth xD . I get the feeling he might at least suspect, though.
Check my keyboard video reviews:

Feathers McGraw is an experienced seller.

Ebay works very hard to get people to list low-start auctions.

In a case like this, it won't matter because there is no way it could slip by unnoticed with a complete accurate description.

A sensible starting price, and no silly bids yet.

What is going wrong?

Probably about right.

More likely to be higher than lower.

He has one negative in the past year, and he responded to that rating saying the buyer made a bad return.   From what I'm told, a seller cannot leave negative feedback for a buyer on ebay, so there's little rating threat to a buyer trying to cheat a seller.

On this item - I'm not certain if I've ever seen a ground strap on a an Industrial SSK.  That part number is the same as mine and others in the late 1992 timeframe that I've seen and none of them have ground straps.

Well it's up to $182 less than a day into the auction, so I hope you've got a little more than that... ;)

It really isn't that bad. It's just lacking in actual in-depth discussion, because reddit is anti-content.

To "get a bid in", I would suspect.  Makes it seem like you had a chance and tried, by making a safe bid on the lower side of things.  It's not really rational and I don't think anyone believes that it helps, but it might be some subconscious effort that I don't fully understand.   :-X

It works out to be the same.    If anything, starting bids low and having people fight for the auction often leads to a higher final selling price.   And what does it matter if people are sniping with $500-1000 bids?   I used to get into "Sniping" wars with others and market price will end up dictating what this board will sell for.   So based on history, it will sell for btwn $500-$1200 depending on how many deep pockets want to fight it out ....

When I'm planning to snipe something, I usually put in a minimum bid as soon as I make the decision.  This ensures I won't forget it.  I don't use the watch list for this purpose because I fill my watch list with all kinds of things I want to remember during normal shopping.  There's dozens of items on there most of which I never intend to buy so I ignore the watch list reminders.

Haha yeah, let the chumps battle it out on the low end. The real buyers put in the market value, with enhanced snipes, at the end of the auction.

Why don't you just put your snipe bid in??   That way if the bidding goes over your snipe amount, you'll be notified?   And the correct thing to do at that point is to "move away" from that auction and not increase your snipe amount.   Keeps one from grossly over spending.   But then again, anything over $5-600 for an Industrial SSK  (even one as nice as this one) is just spending a ton of money for bragging rights   :p :p

Take a long serious look at the item and make a cold, calculated, unemotional decision as to what is the absolute maximum amount that you would be willing to pay for it.

Put in your snipe at that amount, right then, and do not even put it on your ebay watch list.

Make every effort to forget that it even exists. Continue the forgetting if you don't get it.

If you do get it, be pleasantly surprised.

Another approach to take is imagine you have the cash in one hand and the keyboard (in this instance) in the other hand.

Which would you really rather have?

Take a long serious look at the item and make a cold, calculated, unemotional decision as to what is the absolute maximum amount that you would be willing to pay for it.

Put in your snipe at that amount, right then, and do not even put it on your ebay watch list.

Make every effort to forget that it even exists. Continue the forgetting if you don't get it.

If you do get it, be pleasantly surprised.

This is good advice!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_bid

"Proxy bidding is an implementation of an English second-price auction used on eBay, in which the winning bidder pays the price of the second-highest bid plus a defined increment. It differs from a Vickrey auction in that bids are not sealed; the "current highest bid" (defined as second-highest bid plus bid increment) is always displayed. In a standard first-price English auction the winner pays the amount of their bid, regardless of competitors' bids, and it is therefore desirable to place a bid that exceeds the current highest bid by the smallest possible increment. Under proxy bidding, however, the price paid is determined only by competitors' bids and not by the amount of the new bid, and so there is no economically rational incentive to place a bid below the amount one is willing to pay, or to place multiple increasing bids. An "economically rational" bidder will therefore bid the maximum amount they are willing to pay on their first bid, and never raise their bid. This approach however, in the context of eBay, reveals the bidder's limit to rival bidders early in the auction, which can sometimes artificially inflate the price of the item higher than its actual intrinsic value, and ultimately encourages the practice of auction sniping."

And wonder why you bought that antique silver plated cheese dish at $200 last time you were on pot :)

People are so damn dumb bidding this high with 5 days left.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

It'll probably get up to like $1200 and then be re-listed after the winning bidder backs out.

EDIT: derp, walked away and came back and hit post...what slip said  :))

Speculators and resellers do tend to make already whacky situations even more bizarre.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

It makes you wonder if the seller has some buddies of theirs artificially driving the prices up on popular items.  I'm not talking just keyboards, but everything.  Some prices are just illogical.  This is an excellent example.
I guess some people have money to burn.

Why pay so much for a Model M when it doesn't feel as nearly as awesome as a Model F? :p

We'd all have a kish if we could.

Not everyone is able to snag boards like that.  ;D

Hey man, leave the kish out of this! :p I dream of stumbling across some in the wild to share with the homies on GH. ;)

I'm just saying that my Model F-XT is only slightly wider than my SSK Model M, but the difference in tactile feeling is drastic. The Model F is much more snappy and pleasant to type on, IMO. As sexy as the Industrial SSK in the OP is, I personally would rather spend my money on a Model F restoration project.

If I was a die-hard IBM keyboard collector, I would most likely be all over this. Just my two cents! :thumb:

It's not just that one, though. I'm loving my restored and modded F-122. :D

I know, I actually don't really like Model Ms but I went crazy when I tried Hoff and CPTs kishs. Also I'm not a fan of boards larger than 68% so I'm a bit biased toward the kish and F77(not like I'll ever own one of these).

Edit: Speaking of finding some in the wild, I've been trying with absolutely no luck  :(
