Would prefer non-southpaw.Yeah, any chance to offer both layout?
But who am I kidding? At $500USD I'm not copping anyway.
I absolutely love this and am looking forward to the southpaw renders. I’d love to see stepped caps lock be available on the non-southpaw version as well.
Yes, yes , yes. Love everything about this, a full size alice for work. Are you going to do a southpaw as well or replace this design with it? Please if possible run this version first. If I can also suggest that you run the wrist rest for it at the same time as the correct wrist rest is needed for proper alice use.
Good luck with this.
This looks insane, what are the dimensions of the board?
What I like about the old layout is the extra key next to the "T" key, as for those who press "Y" with both left and right fingers might bind that. I think adding it back to the new layout could make it more easier to adjust.

This is big brain, do you have any socials or do we keep track of your project solely on GH?
I like the Southpaw!
Will the PCB have features like ESD protection? And I could have missed this - will it be VIA / QMK compatible?
That 2u right shift is kind of a compatibility killer - any chance at either a 2.25 or 1.75, making it a more standard size?
Maybe IC form to vote the layout?Would prefer non-southpaw.Yeah, any chance to offer both layout?

ok. Most likely depends on demand which layout receives the most attention and that will be the final layout.

Yes, that will happen very soon. Anytime this week.
Great, thanks!I like the Southpaw!

Yes, it will have ESD protection and be VIA / QMK compatible.
That is our initial plan for the PCB.
i am so confused, is this a southpaw board or not
Interesting project. Do you care to provide more details about the mounting system and case screws? The renders do a fine job of explaining the exterior but there is nothing for the internals.
You are going "screw-less", but the only way I can see that being possible(based off the renders you have provided) is having 4 screws under the feet(which isn't enough for even a 60% gasket board).
I'm very confused about the move to a south-paw design. This is generally a polarising opinion. Is this something you actually wanted to do before posting the IC, and couldn't decide on? Or are you just accomodating to requests made by people in this thread? It's been live for a day and you're fundamentally changing the layout and will have to remodel everything. This is incredibly odd for a personal project but makes sense if you're just designing for what "people want"(which isn't the way to go about projects imo).
I personally deteste designer names or logos on the exterior of boards("designed by X") because I believe it only serves a purpose for the board designer and no one else. I think an internal engraving is much more fitting for this application. Understandable if you wouldn't want to make this change; I understand it's an opinion.
GLWIC
Man there are people interested in your project, please update renders and reply to suggestions.
I personally don't like the designer's name on the board either, the name of the keeb is fine tho :D
i think if you can do a quick render of the southpaw version so people can compare the two and make a decision+1 on the idea
+1 for southpaw, I forgot to mention the mirrored numpad for southpaw in the IC form.
TY for making this, would be my first ergo Alice style keyboard if this some to fruition
What a layout, love it!
I would absolutely love an ISO version, though I understand the constraints of asking for that.
Regardless this looks amazing..
Love it! :thumb:
Please, southpaw alice, it will be beautiful
Thanks, I see you have updated the IC with details around PCB (ESD protection, etc).
Once the design has progressed that far, I would like an exploded view, like huey asked earlier as well, to show the internals. And if you could also organise some renders of the board with some keycaps, in planned colours, that would be great.

All of that will be included.
Love the non-southpaw!
I was pissed I JUST missed the FLX Virgo which is essentially this keyboard, with with 10-key. And I work in IT and use the 10-key a TON! Would be perfect keeb.
I would also like to see color renders. HUGE fan of the Dark Purple, Dark Green, Deep Burgundy color swatches.
Cheers!
What does Gasket + Top mount mean
Can you do more renders
Do you have a prototype coming
You will use o-ring for the gasket mount? What does Gasket + Top mount mean
Can you do more renders
Do you have a prototype coming
I have enough budget for a prototype. Gasket means there are foams on the side of the plate to dampen sound and reduce vibrations when typing and top mount means it's mounted to the top frame of the keyboard.
There's an IC form to determine the final layout of the design. Once it is done I will design the case and PCB and have the prototypes ready by then.

In for a south paw variant, this look amazing!
If there is an option for a full 2U numpad 0 key, I'm in.
i like this
pls make this
big thank
yes

It is a mirrored numpad. So yes.
Hey!
Any updates on this?
And will it support bluetooth?
- ISO Support
- ISO Support
nice to see iso support, although i thought it was impossible on alice-style boards curious to see how it will work.
and being left handed on computers (my mouse is on the left, i am somewhat ambidextrous, depends on what i do) i do not really understand how having the numpad on the left helps, i would actually think that to be better for right handed peoples? or am i completely wrong in understanding that southpaw layouts were for lefties?
So that the southpaw wins in your IC does that mean, that there will be no regular 1800 version?

It's still a 1800 Alice. Just southpaw
I understand why this board is southpaw, what i did not understand was the popularity of southpaw, because my understanding was that it was meant to be more ergonomic for left handed peoples, and that made no sense to me, but someone else corrected my wrong beliefs on the subject- ISO Support

Purely for ergonomic or aesthetic preferences. There was an IC form between Southpaw and non-southpaw layout and southpaw won by a significant.

still rather curious about how the iso is going to fit, as i stayed away from alice for the lack of ISO support.
Thanks for the reply though :).
Hey!
Any updates on this?
And will it support bluetooth?
Yes, I have been working non-stop and with the PCB designer (Gondolindrum) who will be designing the PCB of this board. (Unfortunately no bluetooth)
I can give you the official details of the new Mountain Alice
- Rotary Encoder
- ISO Support
- Mirrored Numpad
- Southpaw
- OLED Screen
More details will come by soon when the decision is final.

Not really a fan of the OLED at all
I can live with the rotary encoder(although prefer not to)
Love me some mirrored numpad :p
Also 3u support!( Which I think was already confirmed!) ^-^
Thanks again for making this!
got really excited about the extra key on the left side y-spot, but i see that it's gone now. i feel like this is the biggest issue i have with split keebs as i tend to lean right with my right hand (finnish speaker/writer here, so heavy usage of the scandi keys).
would love to get a full size alice (don't really care if the numpad is regular or southpaw as long as there is a fully functional one) for my home studio, but not so keen on added rotary or oled.
i'll follow the progress with great interest. good luck with everything!
Great Keyboard. But you are not the first. There is a Korean designer who made this style of keyboard already. Its called the COX CA106. Here is the link. https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/jv2tmp/cox_ca106_korean_fullsize_ergo_keyboard/
Regardless big fan of this with Southpaw!
If you go for the ISO one, will be my really endgame board
Very neat board :)
I have three questions:
1. Now that Southpaw won, will the normal design then be available also or only the Southpaw?
2. Is there a rough price estimate?
3. Which colours will be available?
Thanks for your time!

- Mountain Alice is only going to be Southpaw. YB has another project called Alice Everest which is the non-southpaw version.
- AFAIK colours are still being decided. YB may do another poll for colours, or only provide colours the manufacturer can make.
Hope this helps!

Where was Alice Everest announced? I don't see it on geekhack. Did I miss it?

Dang it's pretty cool. I was late to the show I would have voted non-southpaw. I'm kinda new to these message boards and stuff but how do I follow progress on this.
Sounds great! Do you have any socials/discord for me to follow through this project?
This would be the perfect work board (as a left handed enthusiast)
Damn. I've been waiting for something like this, but w/o southpaw. RIP

Meh.

I feel the same xD The normal layout just looked better imo
This is literally what I've been searching for as an endgame! Any clue on pricing & a date?
You can't satisfy everyone, and moreover, you did a survey which showed North paw is the meh one in most casesWait, southpaw won?
Meh.

A normal layout exists in the discord server I mentioned. It will be in process when the GB of MA is done
Definitely in now it's southpaw confirmed, with ISO support to boot. This looks really good.
Really excited about this! I'm right handed but I prefer southpaw layouts. I'm jumping on this board the moment it goes live.
Mate, I suggest a rose gold version of it. My wife would want a board on such color to match it with KAM Bouquet, and maybe more people would want it as well

any possibility of having halfplates?
also pls i need that turquoise color in my life

This is awesome, very interested.
Also I don't know if it is just me but I am getting an invite invalid on the discord link.

wish it still had an external weight on the bottom
wait what? how will a weight on the bottom will make it less plain? you are not meant to use keyboards upside down you know, right? i always find it sad when keyboards have beautiful designs on the bottom because you never see them, i guess i will just never understand the art bottom mentality.wish it still had an external weight on the bottomMe too. It looks so plain and boring.

But when I change boards around I often look at the back of some and smile at some designs. I know i is just mentally, but a nice bottom like on the Iron165 is imo always better than just a monotone colored backplate

It's just like having a nice watch with a finely engraved rear backing. It makes the owner feel good knowing that it's there. On top of that, a luxury watch that's missing craftsmanship like that would seem incomplete. You may not understand it, but this hobby is full of people who find value in fine details that most people will never see.

Well said
Ditto. Some of the details I have appreciate the most were actually inside the keyboard where they will never be seen once assembled.well technical details, yeah, they are cool even when not seen, because they accomplish something, like optical or magnetic boards, but purely visual details, i feel like it is a waste, although i am a technician, not an artist, to me technical aspects are far more interesting than the beauty of something. i use an FK9200 for its rather strange switches and calculator, neither being particularly striking.

Then why people are wearing mechanical watches ?
(and to be clear i am not against the option of having an exposed weight, i do not care about it in the slightest one way or the other, i just could not wrap my head around the reasoning for it)
ik a radio controlled digital would be more precise but would it work out of your wasted energy? and only with springs and mechanical linkages.)Some do (Seiko).
mechanical watch = optical analog switches = mechanical computers etc -> technically very interesting even when hiddenYou didnt get the point at all did you. How can you see the mechanism of the watch (if it's not a skeleton one) ? Most of them have a window on the back, that's actually hidden all the time (when the watch is being worn). Some of these mechanisms are heavily decorated by manual labor that cost a fortune.
ornate bottom weigh or insides = art stuck in a private collection for no one to ever see -> utterly pointless and a waste of time to me
that is only my opinion though, as i said, i am not against it existing, especially if it is an extra option and those who do not care can get the whole board for a bit cheaper. You should not be in this hobby if you're looking at price efficiency..
i got the point that some value art more than technical aspects, i am in this hobby for the technical aspects of it, the rather ridiculously complex switches that manufacturer built and the upmost simplicity and elegance of other designs. although my budget is rather tight so i can't really go all out and not care about price.ik a radio controlled digital would be more precise but would it work out of your wasted energy? and only with springs and mechanical linkages.)Some do (Seiko).mechanical watch = optical analog switches = mechanical computers etc -> technically very interesting even when hiddenYou didnt get the point at all did you. i kinda wish to have that Seiko too now, seems to be rather interesting :)(i'll be short since it's OT) Seiko made both electronic watches that use an automatic mechanical winding system (Seiko Kinetic series), and full mechanical watches (very high end, prices are reflecting that, Grand Seiko "spring drive" models like the famous Snowflake) that are regulated with a quartz for maximum precision and have a continuous seconds hand movement (since the escapement is not mechanical). Both are amazing indeed. Again in usage you will not see the said mechanism, apart if you flip the watch over and peer through the window (for the Grand Seiko models).
"Internal of mounting which is top mount + burger mount with o-rings
Plate is sandwiched between o-rings from bottom and top."
is the o-ring compressed between the plate and the top?
i recommend a mechanical end-of-stroke to avoid damage to the oring.
standart compression limit for oring are:
ø1.27 oring - 0.85mm
ø1.52 oring - 1.10mm
ø1.78 oring - 1.25mm
ø2.62 oring - 2.05mm
ø3.53 oring - 2.80mm
(70shore NBR)
Can I have the 1800 variant? Or is it southpaw only? There is an Alice Everest variant that will be done sometime after the southpaw Mountain Alice here. There's a bit more info in the discord
Would love to join this, but the knob kinda throws me off...
Hi, the Discord invite seems to have expired. If it’s still open to all, would you mind renewing it please?
Also, could you have some renders of a fully assembled board, with keycaps please?
I am willing to give my left arm for an Alice layout with arrows and ISO support. However, I'm not sure that a southpaw layout is a good fit for me (especially given that I no longer have my left arm..)Good thing they have developed the Alice Everest! Here's a link to the Discord: https://discord.gg/CgQQfNBk
Best of luck with this! :)

Any way to make the encoder optional? if not is there a way to get a shorter knob? seems tall imo, ive thought the same about the Sat 75 tho
Following!It has f-row
Hope to see a future version, after this, with f-row and no numpad.

yup. This.....right hur. I've had enough smol metal rectangles. Now I'm into a little bigger metal non-rectangles!I mean...with the wrist rest it transforms into a big square
I think it's currently in the PCB prototyping phase. Thanks!
