A mod I am thinking about
« on: Thu, 30 August 2007, 13:33:19 »
I have an old Apple II GS in my closet, and now I realize that it is worth only $40, but I don't want to throw the thing away. I've been using it as a monitor stand and that got me thinking about this more.

I am thinking about putting a Mac Mini, a couple HDDs, and a USB splitter in it. I am thinking about keeping the face the way it is and mounting the Mini on the side so I can use the remote and the CD drive. The case has slots all around it, so a simple fan would handle cooling. All the plugs could be set like a tower in the back.

What do you guys think about this idea? Do you think that I would be better off to biuls a PC inside and run Ubuntu on it? This would be more work, and I am a Mac guy at heart, so the Mini is what I am leaning toward.

My Problem - How would I access the power button on the back of the Mini?

Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Is the Apple II GS still functional?  If so, I say don't mod it at all!!

Use it as a serial terminal for a linux box or a Mac mini.  I've been wanting one of those (an Apple IIe or "better") to do just such a thing.

Or, you could just sell it to me so I could do this.  :)
