Hello from Germany
« on: Tue, 15 January 2013, 01:48:44 »
Hi everybody,
after reading threads here for hours, I finally decided to buy my first mechanical keyboard (Filco Majestouch 2 with Cherry MX Blues) and because reading all these posts were incredibly helpful, I decided to sign up.
I'm from Germany and studying computer science, so I usually spend a lot of time in front of my computer. As mentioned in the 'Welcome to new member' thread.
And I'm already thinking about getting a second keyboard for my notebook as an external keyboard, so soon my wallet will be completely empty.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Nice keyboard :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I considered that too, but couldn't get along with the lack of function keys and I remap the caps lock key to ctrl anyway.

I've looked at the HHKB a few times, but I too would miss the function keys.

A TKL keyboard has certain merits though :)
