In similar fashion, Elitekeyboards delivers great customer service and an amazing price. His order from across seas arrived yesterday, and I got my keyboard from that order the very next day. This is my second HHKB, and I'm just as excited as when I got my first one. Anyways, this isn't really much of a review, so here's some pics instead :P

Nice! eventually I'm going to get another one myself. Did you also order the blank black keys I see in the pictures?

Right now I have to let my bank account do a little catching up after all the boards I've ordered over the last few months. I still have two sitting in Japan waiting for me to approve shipment on. I will do that next week. Then it is account recovery time for a bit then I will get one.
Keyboards

Buckling Spring: IBM Model M Space Saver (1291472), Unicomp Customizer x 2
Cherry Brown: Filco FKBN87M/EB, Compaq MX11800
Black Alps: ABS M1
Not so great boards Rare Spring over dome OKI, Sun rack keyboard

Trackballs - Trackman Wheel (3), Trackman marble (2)
Keyboards I still want to get - Happy Hacking Keyboard Pro 2 the White version, Realforce 23U number pad in black and maybe white, μTRON ergo board with Topre switches.

They sell separate but the price is ridiculous: $105..
Maybe that's what bumps the price of the keyboard up? :tea:

That is what I was thinking from reading the site. But you do get a discount when you buy them with the board right.

That sucks I thought you could buy them at a reduced price when you get them with the board. I thought this page meant you could get a discount for getting both at once. I guess not.

also, didn't mention this in the post, but one will be going to work, and the other will stay at home. After about 100 days with 12+ hours a day, every day on my black, I couldn't go any further taking it to and from work (although it's held up amazingly well after being dropped from 4' feet on linoleum twice). I must accommodate the minimum for two boards, so two hhkb's made sense (and the only other board I own is a g80-3000, which, if I find a buyer locally, will be selling it)

Yep same reason I want another one. But I do still like my 87/86U's and this little Topre as well. But I think my main everyday board will be the HHKB Pro.

Oh I know what you mean the charcoal keys look good with the white case. But you can't order it that way. You either order two or get a set of keys. I also think the white keys look good on the black case.

I always try to buy two of any keyboard I own, so that I have one for work and one for home, so I am never "jealous" of the 'board I have in the other location.  With that in mind, get both and rotate them between work and home as you feel the need.  I am using my Cherry at work right now for a key wear experiement, but I have realized that the Cherry keys simply wear MUCH slower than the Filco's, so I am bringing my Filco back to work tomorrow.

That, and I get my blank key set tomorrow for the Filco, so while I might appreciate the blank look, I think my GF would have a sh*t-fit if she needed to use my PC for anything.

Na don't haul them back and forth just take one to work and leave it there. Right now that is where my HHKB Pro is because I needed to clean my 86U so took it home and brought in the HHKB.

With the HHBKs portablilty (read: small size and detachable USB cable), it would be the one 'board I would tote back and forth to work.  Otherwise, I am just too lazy; just buy two.

I think if I were to get a Topre-based 'board, it would be the HHKB so I could take it back and forth to work.   I would like to get either the 87U or the 103U, but I can't afford two.  That, and I think I would prefer all one key resistance.  Until I get to try one, I am going to stick with the Cherry browns.

The portability of the HHKB is indeed nice, but that's not why I bought it. It just so happened to fill the role nicely until I got a job at a place that I didn't have to take it home in fear of it getting stolen.

Yea I'm glad I don't have to worry about my boards growing legs at night where I work. But even if I did I would still leave it there but lock it up instead. Along with a camera so I could catch the MF that would mess with my board.

When I took my HHKB to work (dyed all blank keys) the people that saw just said things like
1) how can you type on that?  Quit nicely thank you very much
2) How do you know where the keys are? You mean you don't know where the keys are on your keyboard? You really should learn where the keys are man.
3) Where are all the darn keys you seem to missing some. Yea is it great to get rid of all those keys I don't use.

But their were also a few that loved it until I told them how much one costs. But I think our DBA is really thinking of getting one.

I leave my Filco on my desk. People wouldn't even think of touching the Cherry G80-3000; it's not pretty enough. Unless you have another GeekHacker in your office, I don't think people particularly care about your keyboard. That is, unless it's loud. Then, people care.

Two other things to remember:

-Your keyboard does not have multimedia keys
-How many other people in the office have an HHKB, Filco, Cherry (unless you work at a dept. store), or Model M?  Your 'board would be pretty easy to spot around the office.

Pah, more illusion than reality.  The keyboards look *much* better than they feel.  Says a lot about the personality of typical Topre fanboys, too.

I don't have to try one to know they're BORING.  No click.  No snap.  *yawn*

The anti-topre league strikes again!

It should be interesting if you don't care about the clicky part. Good/fresh rubber domes have a rather peculiar "tactile" feel when the domes collapse (even when that is useless from a touch-typing view), I'd guess the Topre should have something along those lines but better.

I haven't tried one though as they exceed my $150 max threshold (includes shipping).

O2's got the money pics.  It makes me want to buy an HHKB just off the looks.

It's not going to happen, though. :(

Do you have any other reviews of products you cannot afford?

Oooh, oooh, I got one:

The Ferrari - an overpriced, POS.  No leg room, disappointing stereo, too much engine noise, rough ride, not enough room for the family, and a complete lack of cargo space.

I don't like the shade of red they use. Refuse to buy one because of that.

Yeah, their choice of colors is disappointing.  That red draws way too much attention.

the blank ones always look better, black or white...

i may have just obtained a white one with markings.  i wonder if anyone who purchased a blank board would ever trade for marked keys?

One advantage of a blank keyboard is that nobody will steal it.

... At least no normal person would.

Stealth lettering (black on dark grey) is my preference ATM.

more than that, i use colemak, and the hhkb rows cannot be rearranged... and i plan to switch the <> and alt anyway... so only handful of keys will have the CORRECT markings...

otherwise i only have a preference for blank because of the look.

I like the look of the blank keys, too, but it sort of looks like the 'board is unfinished.  I showed a guy at work (and he touch types pretty well), and he was freaking out a little.  He couldn't figure out how he would cope without the letters actually being on the 'board.  Yeah, I don't think anyone would want to steal your 'board unless they are quite adamant about learning how to touch type.
