Group Buy 4 Sphericals Tenkeyless Doubleshots Keycaps
« on: Mon, 07 November 2011, 13:40:28 »
Hello, this is a group buy for Spherical key-caps doubleshots for cherry switches, it is currently included in the Group Buy 4 hosted by 7bit.
I already showed this Group buy in the member polls but I am moving it to the group buy section because we finally decided on a color scheme.
Results of the poll:

Space Cadet layout is the winner!

The blue layout is an emulation of the space cadet that webwit showed on deskthority.

We will use group buy 4's system so you can combine it with present orders and save on shipping.  Also, I really like 7_bit's ordering system and it should make this an easy group buy to organize.

What about adding the more interesting keys of the Space Cadet?:
(Attachment Link) 31191[/ATTACH]

- The finger cursors
- The Greek key
- The Rub Out Key
- Hyper
Man I want that hyper key lol.  Rub Out + Hyper to active pr0n.
7bit, can we add these keys and the other spherical keys in gb 4? like the vim and the awesome?
Hmm that would be cool to have an imbedded numpad(front printed) like on the IBM Model M Mini and the Realforce 87U Tenkeyless, you can rebind with autohotkeys or flash into the teensy for the phantom.

I did already the simpler left and right pointing hands.
I can add GREEK and RUB OUT (Caps Lock position).

HYPER is already part of the MODIFIER kit.

The sets hurt my brain. It seems that if I want two symmetrical pairs of modifiers, I'll end up with a hundred in other sizes that I'd never use, and in general the keys I'd want are scattered across several different kits. Anyone up for swapping fragments?

This is gonna be awesome!

already ordered this, glad you guys went for the space cadet theme.

one question, is this like the other tenkless sets where we need to order a spacebar also? or what are the chances it'll be added with the whole set?

just in case, i added a spacebar for filco and leo.

Is this planned to be a full SA profile, or a flat set (all row 3)? According to Signature's catalog, quite a few of the keys in the sets people have ordered above are not available, including some fairly vital ones like backspace.

  • Row 1, 2u: BACK SPACE (TENKEYLESS, TKL, TERMINAL, POS), and 30 other types from POS and BLANKPOS.
  • Row 3: 1.75u stepped CAPS LOCK (TENKEYLESS, TKL, TERMINAL) and stepped CONTROL (TENKEYLESS, TERMINAL).
  • Row 4: 2.5u SHIFT (TENKEYLESS, TKL).
  • Row 4: 1.25u modifiers — ALT, CONTROL, META, SUPER (TENKEYLESS, TKL), and 12 types from MODIFIER.
  • Row 4: 2.5u SHIFT (TENKEYLESS, TKL).
  • Row 4: 7u space (TERMINAL).
  • Rows 2 & 3: ISO Return (TERMINAL).
  • Rows 3 & 4: vertical = (NUMERIC).
  • Rows 4 & 4: vertical ENTER (TERMINAL).

  • Row 1, 2u: BACK SPACE (TENKEYLESS, TKL, TERMINAL, POS), and 30 other types from POS and BLANKPOS.

POS: If you look at the Space cadet keyboard, you will see that these keys are row 3 and not curved like row 1, 2 or 4.
Quote from: kps;447786

  • Row 3: 1.75u stepped CAPS LOCK (TENKEYLESS, TKL, TERMINAL) and stepped CONTROL (TENKEYLESS, TERMINAL).
The full-touch version is available. So only Cherry keyboards are in trouble.

I may ask SP if they can make an off-center 1.75 units key. Otherwise you have to polish the matte top-surface until it is semi-matte;-)
Quote from: kps;447786

  • Row 4: 2.5u SHIFT (TENKEYLESS, TKL).

These gaps are already in my graphics. However you can get a 2.25 units key with matte top instead of semi-matte.
Quote from: kps;447786

  • Row 4: 1.25u modifiers — ALT, CONTROL, META, SUPER (TENKEYLESS, TKL), and 12 types from MODIFIER.

I recommend row 3 modifiers for the bottom row anyway. The space bar is from row 3 as well!

These keys are usually pressed with the thumbs, su a curved profile like row 4 would get into the way of the thumbs!

Quote from: kps;447786

  • Row 4: 2.75u SHIFT (TENKEYLESS, TKL).

Take the 2.5 units key and call the gaps keyboard canyons.

Quote from: kps;447786

  • Row 4: 7u space (TERMINAL).

Currently we do the 6.25 units space bar. It will cost $2500 (I've asked for a price quote before).

If there is enough demand and a high enough volume to cover the costs, we will make the 7 units space bar.

Currently, there is only one person who ordered SPH/TERMINAL and that is me!
Quote from: kps;447786

  • Rows 2 & 3: ISO Return (TERMINAL).
  • Rows 3 & 4: vertical = (NUMERIC).<-----------no problem!
  • Rows 4 & 4: vertical ENTER (TERMINAL).<-----------no problem!

ISO return is a bit of a problem.
The easiest solution to use a 2 units key. I did this before, becuase I used a G80-2550 during my hollidays and had forgotten to bring the J-shape return with me. Instead I used the Numpad + !

This is kind of a pineer group buy. We order key caps from a family which had not been ordered since ages. As far as I know, this is the first ever spherical group buy. (Novelty keys don't count!)

With your spirit, they would have never landed on the Moon.

If you want perfection, stay out of this!

Is the plan for POS and BLANKPOS to be all row 3, or only to have the row 1 keys replaced with row 3, since the row 2 and row 4 are available? That is, would BLANKPOS be 14×R3, or would it be 2×R2 + 10×R3 + 2×R4?

Quote

I don't personally care about exactly fitting any existing keyboard, but I would like to exactly what is planned for the sets I'm interested in.

Does that mean all the modifiers from TKL, TENKEYLESS, TERMINAL, & MODIFIERS would be row 3? Or would there be some mix of row 3 and row 4. (In my opinion consistency would be better.)

The existing 4u is fine for me; my thumbs aren't that fat.

I was thinking of one or maybe two TERMINAL sets (plus probably 3 of the tenkeyless) but I would like to know what rows and sizes would actually be available in the SPH versions. (I don't personally care about the ISO return.)

OK, sorry that I was a bit hard on you. The SPH style is still at an early decision making stage.

I think to go with modifiers from row 3 and all the 1 unit keys from their normal row, would be the best compromise.

Thanks.  I just want to see the best possible results out of this, since I'm fond of spherical caps (I bought 250 blank DSA from SP last year), and there's unlikely to ever be a better opportunity to get good sets.

Lol, 7bit is sure nice to you after he saw that you were buying 2 terminal kits :D oh, if he orders 5(two TERMINAL sets plus probably 3 of the tenkeyless), we only need 2 more kits :D

Recreating the LISP keyboard. It looks like he got busy with real life and disappeared from DT, so he might not be aware of this group buy.

EDIT: Actually, because of the colour scheme and the possibility that there might be Knight / Space Cadet labelled caps if there is enough interest, it might be worth bringing this up wherever LISPy types hang out these days.

if you look at the picture, they all fit, its just the shifts and the enter is a smudge smaller then the allocated space.

The full-touch version is available. So only Cherry keyboards are in trouble.

Apologies if this question is nubile, but did you mean cherries are only compatible with the non-stepped version, or cherries won't work for either ?

Looks like SP doesn't have stepped capslock's. Cherry keyboards usually have offset, stepped capslock keys, so you'd have to mod the stem on your capslock if you want it to fit on a cherry keyboard. I would say it's a better idea to just get a CMstorm at that point.

Cherry has stepped caps locks, but they are center-stemmed, at least for their Cherry-similar profile.  Not sure about their spherical keys.

Anyone care to explain what's going on with this GB? Explain it to me like I'm 5. Thanks.
