Title: World’s First ‘Molecular Robot’ Capable Of Building Molecules
Post by: rowdy on Thu, 21 September 2017, 05:40:46
https://scienmag.com/scientists-create-worlds-first-molecular-robot-capable-of-building-molecules/

About time!

Although I thought (as recently as yesterday) that they'd go the other way i.e. create a robot that could build smaller robots, that could build smaller robots, until they got right down to molecular robots or similar.  Kinda of like creeping up on the technology.

So this robot can build molecules, although only by manipulating other molecules.

Still a little bit away from manipulating protons, neutrons and electrons to actually make molecules.

So soon I can tell Alexa I want pizza and it'll download the code and my Amazon bot box will assemble it for me??

i'm a little confused

it seems like they're describing a chemical reaction,   and then calling it,  a robot.. ?

An electric battery is just a chemical reaction :p

Seems like they arranged some molecules, and by throwing certain chemicals at it cause it to move and do very, very, very tiny things.  I'm guessing the order in which they throw the chemicals at it comprises "programming" it, and throwing the right chemicals in the right order can make it move like a robot (i.e. a conventional macro-mechanical robot).
