Amazon has taken away my community privileges and I can no longer post reviews.

No appeal, no actual reason given and no recourse on my end.

Yeah seems like they've let the algorithms take over.

Family, a handful of people who all live within half a mile of each other yet can't arrange a simple meetup for a birthday.  Instead there's the whole gamut of emotion from sadness for not being invited to anger at being let down (by the 'uninvited') to the frustration of the younger generation due to their parents moaning about it.  Luckily the birthday girl lives in cloud cuckoo land most of the time so probably won't notice!

Death.
And mortality.
It's been on my mind a lot lately.

My mother passed away from esophageal cancer almost 8 years ago.  My father and I miss her every day, but the experience has made us closer than ever. We live together, and not a day goes by where we don't hug each other and say "I love you."  But he'll be 75 later is year, and things are getting harder for him and I'm dreading the day when I'll lose him too.

But the poor guy is still spending half his time helping out his mother, my grandmother, who is 94.  A woman who, up till last week, was still living by herself in her own home.   That is until she cracked her heel, and is now currently in a nursing home until she can walk on her own again.  If she can ever again.  But she doesn't want to be there and wants to die in her own home - which is a notion I respect.  My own mother passed away on our couch at home while I held her hand.  She was going to go and there was not a damn thing any one of us could do about it.  But at least she was in her own home with loved ones.

A lot of this has been on my mind as I turned 40 this year. The day before my birthday, I started taking medication to stave off glaucoma. I thought to myself, "This is the start of my decline.  Things will only ever get worse, there is no way my health or well being will ever incline now."
Laying in bed, you ponder these things and start to ask yourself what in your life has ever been worthwhile or what is the point to it all.... if at the end you will ever see your loved ones again or if you will simply be met with oblivion.

Don't have any answers or know what to do.  I just tell my dad I love him every morning and every night, and try to trudge through the day in between.

I didn't mean to kill this thread dead in it's tracks (ha ha sorry for dark pun) with my depressing thoughts here.
Truth is, just writing them out and expressing them - letting them loose out here in the world - made me feel a little better.

Just discovered yesterday that one of my good 'ol college friends is getting a divorce after about 10 years of marriage.
It sucks, but you just have to move on... you have to keep moving.

So I guess my thought of the moment is that we all have to just keep moving forward - even if we don't even know what direction forward is in.
So on that note, keep this thread moving too guys.  ;)

(I got up at 5:30AM just to tell you all this.  And to pee.  I did have to pee, too.)

Damn Twitter timeline. Refresh the page to see a video or GIF because WIFI and quickly learn that the tweet I was trying to see was marked as "while you were away" on the timeline.

Something to do with the "Show the best Tweets first" option I just unchecked I hope.

Now to fix the random accounts showing up in my Instagram timeline. ffs

edit - Furthermore, last night I wrote a script to download GH posts by user and merge then into a single searchable PDF.. to find out that you have to be logged in to access user profile pages..

I am critical but their opinion is everybody is replaceable, if you don't like things leave.

What they fail to mention is they've had to replace 3 to 1 or 2 to 1 for a few people.

edit -
I quit lol. I was attempting to provide a script for GH linux users that might want a copy of their post history. One PDF would be easy to search through and whatnot. Thing is, I'm lazy, and the average linux user would have difficulties with such a script (automates login with lynx browser's -cmd_log/script user args and whatnot). Many coffees later.. nope.

Effing heatwave with low air pressure. I am tired all the time, sweating all the time. I feel feverish and my mind has turned to mush.

I should perhaps turn my day around and stay awake at nights instead of days but they I would be missing out on things I could do. On the other hand, I am not very capable at doing things right now either.

Someone keeps using my email address to create an account on a website called HiNative and then it fills my mailbox up with comment replies.

I go there, request a password reset, log in and delete the account.... but apparently they want to keep trying.

Pretty annoying.
I'll probably just end up filtering their whole domain into spam.

I believe it. I am useless when I am persistently hot. Although I am also miserable when cold, I actually feel like doing things and I can think straight. I am a mess when hot. Impatient, tired, and unable to think straight.

Wasps. Allergic and there’s a lot of them coming at me lately. One even came in the house today.

Also it’s literally been 110 for nearly a week straight. That’s not ok.

Something weird is messing with my allergies and has ripped me a new one in the nasal department.

My Linux install totally broke and had to be rebuilt ground up because I had a backup but I can’t find the drive it’s on.

Tp4 recommend not raiding unless you're using professional raid cards..

Tp4 lost a 32tb cluster once, because the card failed on rebuild.

Qanon and alt right manipulating the current societal climate to get people fired, and companies are actually falling for it without doing any research on their own. Literally destroying good careers because of tweets from angry nutjobs.

I don't like linking a Huffpo article, but this one condenses most of the story into one source. Just do some simple searching to find a source you trust, look up the James Gunn firing etc
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/qanon-conspiracy-real-life_us_5b54bbafe4b0b15aba8fe484

Basically trolls are digging up old out of context quotes and using them to generate wrongful outrage, and companies are so afraid of potential backlash in this current delicate social environment they are not doing any research or digging on their own, instead choosing to base their decisions on the slightest wiff of potential scandal.

I've been using Seagate for many years (at least since the early 2000s) and I've never had one fail on me. Matter of fact, the only failures I've had were WD, Hitachi, and Maxtor. I own a 3TB drive that supposedly had a huge failure rate from a few years ago and it has been going along nicely since 2013. Seagate's reputation got way overblown by Backblaze's publishing and, while it sucks to have a drive die that quickly, is anomalous for modern drives. In fact, most drives that are going to die will die within the first few months or much, much later. Backblaze themselves even published a chart based on this very idea (known as a bathtub curve in the manufacturing world).

I proxy anything including keyboards (キーボード / 鍵盤), from both Japan (日本) and China (中國). For more information, you may visit my dedicated webpage here: https://www.keyboards.es/proxying.html

I have always had good service from Seagates.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Doesn't this graph only show the rate of failure, which is applicable for the manufacturer, but not the cumulative chance over time for the customer? I would think it would look more like a cube root graph.

You know, a bit like this:

So, apparently someone broke into my house and stole nothing except my hasu ADB to USB converter.  GOD DAMNIT, I'VE LOOKED FOR THREE HOURS STRAIGHT.

anywhoo... I've misplaced my converter and I've torn apart every inch of my keyboard room looking for it.

In firefox I click in the address or search box it 'helpfully' suggests things from my history.  This can be good but more often than not I type something then for an unknown reason it selects something from the dropdown when I press enter and uses that instead.  The easy fix is to carefully let go of my mouse or to push it away when letting go so it's not over the list, but I've tried for months and I just can't do it.  My hand is heading towards me (and the keyboard) so that's where the mouse goes
