Weather painted cases/keys?
« on: Mon, 29 September 2014, 11:17:53 »
I can't seem to find any instances of people weather painting keyboard cases/keys.  By weather painting i'm talking about painting something to make it look old and used like so many people do with nerf guns and armor.  Has anyone done this to a keyboard?

There is this one.

I can't think of any more here at the moment.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I remember a modder doing this for Valve for a Half-Life chassis, keyboard and mouse combo. Was possibly on bit-tech, googling it would likely show up the progress shots.

How weathered are you thinking of making the appearance? I'm no modder, but am curious how far you'd take it.

I would take it pretty far.  Not sure if you're familiar with the Bioshock game but I built and weathered an Adam Needle from that game.

Very nice  :thumb:. Without telling me I would have expected it to be genuinely old.

I'd imagine an armor-like keyboard case could come out well with subtle worn paint edges, etc. Wonder what keycap color palette would be used.

Thanks!  All parts were brand new.

Not sure about colors yet, I'll probably do it to a membrane keyboard before touching my Ducky.
