What's with the F AT prices?
« on: Thu, 08 June 2017, 12:58:26 »
Did somebody really pay $280 + $18 shipping for a non-NIB F AT? I know they're uncommon, but prices had been in the $150 range in just the last few months. Is this just a result of what seems like a recent short supply or do people think this is a long term trend?

I don't know. Beamsprings are going for $800 now. Maybe it's just that more people are getting into this hobby of ours, and demand is exceeding supply?

I would say more people are entering the hobby is valid reason. I am one of these new members who started less than 2 months ago. At least once a new collector gets their first AT or whatever keyboard they are not likely to spend a lot on another. It is a good thing that not all keyboard aficionados collect vintage gear. I think $300 is a little on the high side but at least that one appears to be in like new condition. I have seen others go $240+ with obvious cosmetic condition issues yet I have seen others go for less in open bidding that were in better shape. At least with something like this you can use it. If it were new in box you would have to be crazy to open it and would just sit on a shelf collecting dust. This keyboard will be sought after for years to come but there are still good BIN deals that come up every so often.

I guess if people are willing to pay it, thats what sellers will list them at. With these boards now hitting the $250 mark, I would rather have an 4704 F107 or a reproduction F62/77 from Ellipse's groupbuy. A good reason the AT and F122s are expensive is that unlike the XT, they are easily modded to full ANSI layout.

There are good deals to be had, but most people would rather not check eBay 10 times a day.

Then there are the sellers that use generic listing names ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

All good points. Probably a combination of all of the above.

But hey, forget the F ATs when you can get a "New"(looks like a refurb label to me)  M 122 for only $549.99 (FREE shipping!!!!)

Likely just a blip. F AT prices have been pretty steady, if anything they have dropped a little.
