Yet Another Not-So-Great Find - IBM 3101 Beam Spring
« on: Thu, 10 August 2017, 11:41:18 »
Just like the last Beam Spring but in a lot nicer shape. The price reflects this of course. After looking at the rest of the pictures there is some major rust on the barrel plate.

I thought the paint looked too good to be true.

And here's one with a BIN of $549 plus shipping. Still way pricey, tho, IMHO.

Oh, never mind. It's the same one. They must've lowered the price.

The paint looks pretty good to me.

Yeah, this is the same seller that sold the other beam spring featured in the "Not-So-Great Finds" post.
Also this seller sold another for $125 today.

Could you not just grind off the rust from the plate?

BTW, I wish you'd posted this in my Not-So-Great Finds thread, which I intentionally didn't name item-specifically, hoping we could get that going. (I recently petitioned the admins for a dedicated NSGF topic area–which seemed like a real good idea, considering our fondness for same–but though the idea met with general enthusiasm, Those In Power remained noncommital.)

Down to $499 now. The rust could be sanded or blasted off. It could be painted or re-plated. The springs are what really matter in this case. I am sure there is rust, but how much is the question.
