Is there tape on your spacebar? I think white space bar doesn't get shine that easily, no?

Definitely tape. You can see the creases and other imperfections in the tape. There is no way a normal plastic spacebar would look like that.

yeah, i was just not convinced enough with the spacebars longevity. seen too many topre boards with good condition keycaps but shiny as hell spacebars all in just a few months time. gotta re-apply the tape though to look more proper.  :))

I have a different thoughts - the reason you are spending so much is to enjoy the product. That means typing on the plastic and feeling it. If you mask it, then you may lose the authenticity of the space bar. It's like I don't put a cover on the iPhone because then you are hiding the iPhone slimness and beauty. Nor do I buy a car and keep it at home for fear of people banging into it.

Of course, when the caps gets used and worn, that is where you buy extra caps from PFU.

^this.

paying hundreds of dollars to 'enjoy' the feeling of $0.000000001 tape is silly.

Or just let him do what he wants? Obviously the tape doesn't change the way he feels about his keyboard.

aren't you afraid of the off chance that you'll drop it one day..? i have a wallet case on my iphone just so i can carry my cards, but without it I would be terrified of having a clumsy moment and dropping it, even though i rarely ever drop expensive electronics.

i dont even really need it for protection. i just like the look and feel of matte plastic more than glass. doesn't get as greasy. yes, i'm gross. whatever.

I've dropped it before. But it's rare. After a while, you wouldn't care right?

By right I should upgrade my iPhone (I am using a 4s) but I don't want to pay the money.

This morning, I had a huge revelation - how come I am ok to spend $150 on key caps but NOT ok to upgrade iPhone(!!)

heh im in the same boat with my 4s. when it goes... it goes.  i could get by with a flip phone but it sure is nice having my mp3 player and phone on the same device.

a taped topre spacebar won't spoil the fun comparing to having a shiny one after just a short while. well, that is for me at least. you can get replacement spacebars from PFU? you serious? can't seem to find any anywhere at all. or am i missing something? :'(

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
