Looking for feedback from anyone who has silence a Realforce 55g board.

A Realforce 87U55 has rendered my 45g HHKB kind of mushy—enough for me to overlook my strong preference for a 60% form factor.

I don’t mean to sensationalize either camp with fanboyism—these are both great boards. I just find the 55g so much a better fit for me. I’m really a surprised to prefer one over the other so strongly, but the crispness of the heavier switch just feels right…not too heavy. But it has made the 45g switch seem light.

I guess there’s always the route of transplanting the stiffer domes to the smaller format, but I’m losing patience for the more fiddly aspects of modding, and the sheet of domes qualifies as fiddly for me.

At the same time, I have added Hypersphere’s silencing rings to my HHKB and found them a great improvement. But, other than the spacebar, the RealForce doesn’t seem too loud.

The 55g also seem to offer little quicker and more accurate typing for me. The difference is the confidence boost in knowing a key has been actuated from the additional tactility and the quicker spring back and return on the up stroke.

I’ve got the silencing rings on hand for the Realforce, but I am leery of compromising any of the responsive feel of the 55g board. Anyone completed the mod have feedback on any loss of crispness in the switches? I didn’t notice any change in feel when adding the   rings to the HHKB but then they weren’t this crisp to start with either.
I go back and forth on preferring 55g or 45g Topre. I have a HHKB Pro 2 modded with 55g domes, but I have finally decided that I prefer 45g in the HHKB Pro 2.

I have both a 55g and 45g RF87UB. I like both of them. At first, I thought I preferred the 55g, but I find it a bit too heavy for long typing sessions. In addition, Topre made a few subtle refinements on the all-45g "EK Edition" that might give it a slight edge for some people.

Any of these is especially great after installing Silencing Rings and lubing the stabilizers and switches. I also put foam rubber shock absorbers under the spacebar.

mostly just wasd and esc sets (have all ansi colors except for the bastard red-orange). i much prefer printed alphas in white/light gray, so just use the few caps to add a bit of color occasionally.

Tried my hand at dying some keycaps last night. They turned out much darker than I wanted (who knew iDye was so potent?), but it was a learning experience. Here shown on the iPad Pro to which it is usually connected. I use this keyboard in "sort of" ANSI format, so I purchased a set of ANSI HHKB keycaps to supplement the standard JIS-labelled keycaps, so that the labels better match the output. The result still needs some work, but it's a work in progress. Basically the dyed keys all work as labelled, while the Yen key and backslash key by the question mark don't do anything.

And here it is with cable attached. Sorely tempted by the HHKB JP BT.

Thanks, I was going for light green, but got dark. I do like it though. It was fun, and I sort of want to keep experimenting. But since Topre keycaps aren't cheap or plentiful, that may not be practical.

Yep, mixture of Kelly Green and Turquoise - guess I just got really lucky with the color balance. It's not quite as even as I would've liked but I might touch that up later.

the casts turned out pretty good for a first attempt.
I only made one R2 mould not thinking, so it will be hard to cast a whole arrow set without being super precise with the dyes, and copying that when making the 2nd R2

here is the result

forreal though. I can definitely do R4 and Fn keys, but unfortunately the esc cap would be OEM and not the same profile as HHKB. its a few millimeters taller.

Not really. I only did the mod a few days ago so i can't comment really. First impressions are they seem just as smooth and consistent as the stock ones. The shift and enter keys are a little iffy as they are only supported by the central mount. I did drill the hhkb so the keys will travel their full distance and that helped.

To some it's sacrilege to mod a HHKB with nova sliders and ABS/GMK keycaps.

I dig it though, looks great. I'd like to head your feedback after a few days of usage.
