FAQ

1. What is included in the box?

    - NP-R top case, bottom case, weight and Plate
    - All needed screws, standoffs, washers etc.
    - Layer Knob
    - Solenoid Switch
    - PCBs, daughterboard, JSTs and other electrical components
    - Battery
    - Rubber feets
    - LED diffusers

Please note the following are NOT included:
    - Keycaps
    - Stabs
    - Switches

2. How many units will there be?

This is a group buy. No further GB round is planned yet.

3. Do you have a discord? How to contact you?

You can discuss about the NP-R on Flatbrains! discord. You can also contact me directly (.bagri) on discord, or on my instagram.

4. Have you designed other things?

My first project was the GMK Alt grrrrr kit.
Flatbrains! have designed many other projects including the Plaket XL.

Based on IC form questions:

- About adding PC option: This won't be implemented at this stage for cost reasons.

- About the button and knob: To clarify: the button is a toggle on/off for the solenoid. The knob has 3 fixed positions to change between 3 layers. That doesn't prevent you from mapping additionnal layers on the keys like a regular keyboard.

- Regarding Mac/Windows compat: Yes, it is, like any other ZMK board.

- Regarding Southpaw and bluetooth: Yes, both included. Refer to the specs :)

- Regarding bluetooth vs wired only: The NP-R still be usable if you physically disconnect the battery and decide to use it only wired. It also works in wire mode with the battery connected.

- Regarding hotswap PCB: Unfortunately no. There are other electrical components to be soldered to the build besides the switches, so in my view there is little point in providing a hotswap PCB.

- Regarding extra parts: The below parts will be available to purchase as extras:
  • plate (orange and lime color),
  • button cap (orange and lime color),
  • PCB (including spare numlock LED, solenoid and all JST - but no battery),
  • weight (raw alu and STS),
  • Feets

UPDATES

04.03.26

- Added a hotswap PCB option: Layout support (Solder = regular/southpaw/full 1u - Hotswap = regular only):

- We have also planned for a PCB assembly service so that electrical components that needed solder previously will be factory soldered instead. This means no soldering iron is needed at all for the build if you're taking a hotswap pcb and the build with a solder pcb just got easier. Only the numlock led remains to solder in all scenarios as this is optional.
- Plate, firmware and pcb files will be open source at the end of the GB.

Any chance of offering a hotswap PCB? I swap out my switches all the time and having solder only is a huge letdown.

Unfortunately we decided not to offer hot swap pcb for this project. There are a few other electrical components so be soldered on top of the switches so you would need a solder iron anyway. Millmax can be an option if you'd like to change switch often and if you're in europe and buying from DKC I know they plan to offer a build service. I'll ask for the other vendors :)
