So cheap! Wish there was a hi-profile case but the cost reflects that. In for one!

The soldered kit uses smd compotnents?

Yes, no through hole other than the little bit on the USB port

I’ll need to secure some manufacturing for it, or you could get someone to print it. If you get one of these kits you’ll be able to use it in the future though because they’ll be completely drop-in.
So if I understand this correctly, the DIY kit ($35) comes with all the SMD parts (diodes, controller, etc.) and also the sandwich case bits (standoffs, plates, etc.)? I would just need to solder the SMD components, find switches, and keycaps?

Yes I remember seeing that - I figured there might have been an acrylic hi-profile option in the works, I'd prefer that as 3D printing looks a bit too "choppy" for me.
Another question: What's the timeline on this GB? Specifically for the DIY kits.
Might be good to add to the OP as well.
Where are the bypass caps on that PCB? I don't see any... Does it have ESD protection?
Sure, but where is it physically on your pcb? For it to do what it's supposed to do it should be as close to the MCU as possible, and it doesn't look like there is a cap anywhere near that chip unless it's on the other side.Where are the bypass caps on that PCB? Per the specs for the controller, there is one large cap on the VCC instead of the multiple that some PCBs use that are based on the tutorial on github. If you look at the controllers and components for the gon nerd60 and wkl b.face you’ll see they use the same basic design. The wkl has a little more going on for the leds and PS2, but the main part is the same.

I'm ok with a thicker board.
Take a look at McMaster-Carr for some of your hardware. You might be able to get some more consistent shipping times vs Aliexpress.
How's this coming along? Did the standoffs make it in?

He's been updating regularly through email if you participated in the group buy, i believe the order was supposed to arrive friday last week?
Was it announced if there were stabs to come with the kit?Not for this kit, no
Standoffs are here, everything will be shipping in the next few days
Get some flux. Flux is your friend. Also, have some thin gauge stranded wire. It works much better for fixing bridges on the controller than wick and doesn’t leave as much of a mess.Standoffs are here, everything will be shipping in the next few days
Woop woop! Can't wait to try my hand at some SMD soldering!

If you ordered an un-soldered board, you will receive with your pcb a packet containing all of the components:
1. 1 x 32u4 microcontroller
2. 1 x crystal
3. 1 x 10uf capacitor (big orange one, polarized)
4. 1 x 1uf capacitor (thicker of the small white caps)
5. 2 x 22pf capacitors (thinner of the small white caps)
6. 2 x 10k ohm resistors
7. 2 x 22 ohm resistors
8. 1 x reset switch
9. 1 x usb jack
10. 50 x diodes
Here is a picture of the placement and polarity of all of the components. All diodes not pictured follow the same polarity.
(picture incoming, saved so I don't lose what I wrote)

lol
good thing that month long wait for the standoffs gave you time to prepare
Could you also upload the case 3d model? So I can place the print order while I wait for the kit to arrive!
I'd be in for any color if you're doing test prints!
Dumb question, but what is the rgb LED part number to pick up for this board?
I did mine with tealios with clear housings and the rgb turned out awesome.
Since it's my first time doing smd soldering, is there a way to check if I messed up the board before soldering the switches? Should I just go ahead and try flashing the firmware?
Added the file for the case to the first reply in the thread. Can I use this case for the 1st GB PCB?

Qlavier's zlant cases are different from the hipro cases you mentioned?

They are different. The pcb must be soldered into place with those, so you’d need them before assembly. If you get/print a hipro you can just drop the board in from the assembled kit.

And the other advantage is that you can change cases if you want with the hipro. With the keeblade, you can't. Thanks for spelling that out and preventing me from spending $100 more on it LOL
My Case came in today.

It turned out nicely! Got it done on Treatstock (through Thingiverse) - the actual shop that did it was Nicks Printing Services. It cost $25 for the print in PETG. I'll put up another picture once I get it done.

Hey OP! I'm sorry to hear about your family member, and I hope they're doing better now.
I saw a post on your Instagram with some fancy PCB's and plates, so I thought I'd ask about any updates. Really stoked on this!

I’ve been packing stuff. I hope to send some out tomorrow even. They’ll go out in order of the invoice numbers.
Hey all,
Super excited for this board. A coworker sent me a link here and am so happy to be able to join the group buy!! Looking forward to this.
Cheers,

Thanks for posting updates & the assembly info! I'd otherwise be the person confused about two switches in the center of the board not fitting (hey, someone's gotta be that person). Got the shipping label creation message today too. :thumb:

Thanks for that!
Can somebody help a noob out and point me in the right direction to source switches, 2u bracket/spacebar key, etc?
Thank you,
~smee
Got my kits!
Switches and stabs lubed last night, can't wait to get home today to finish!
It's already flashed with the default planck layout, yes?
Thanks guys! I think I've found what I'm looking for.
Last question: Is the connection type USB C or Micro USB? Getting a custom cable for this.
Also, I will be working with my father (CNC guy) who can cut wood, aluminum, brass, etc... to make a sweet case for the Zlant. I'll post results once the first one is cut!
Cheers,
~smee
how to join in GB now???
Damn that was some fast shipping!

Now I await the switches and keycaps I've ordered. :D
Thanks Zip!

Always happy to see a safe arrival! What switches are you getting?
keyboards are smaller than they appear in the mirror?
Looking at the board, I see pads labeled "U1" like in this photo from the build album https://i.imgur.com/3vnL2BQ.jpg (https://i.imgur.com/3vnL2BQ.jpg). Are these for NeoPixel LEDs?
Any chance of another GB round? This board is just so cool

There are still enough to go around, but once supply runs low I’m sure I’ll be up for another go.
