It seems purple (gmk color: DY) on black (gmk color: CR) is one of the major concerns for some folks.
I've changed the legend color from purple (gmk color: DY) to light purple (PANTONE 263U)
so that


1) there're more contrast on alphas!
2) still keep the purple as main color in this set

Another option could be legend PANTONE 2087C
which is a slightly darker purple but I believe is still readable.



I want to get a little bit more feedback / interest about this keyset to proceed to the next phase - get renders from GMK

Hi everyone,

I'm E11even. This is my first IC here. I'm seeking for advice and would love to hear your thoughts about this keyset.
The idea is from Halloween



I chose purple and yellow as the main color in this keyset for two main reasons.
1) Obviously they are classic Halloween colors
2) GMK got colors which perfectly fit: DY and V2



The set is not completed yet, but I want to get the interest first and then decide whether to further work on this.


Here's the initial idea of the set.
Alphanumeric base: CR, legend: DY
Modifier base: DY / V2, legend V2 / DY

Still working on more novelties options, I call it *Trck*, besides pumpkin, ghost and spider net, also plan to include witch hat, cat, bat, etc.

Purple is my favourite colour and I love Halloween - the TKL mockup looks great, I'm for sure in. Congrats on a beautiful set for your first IC! Hoping you manage to have it get as much attention as I think it deserves.

I also love purple on my keyboards, second is cyan, third is orange so this works. For better 1800 or general support probably need to include some 1.5u mods ey (unless I'm missing something)? Wish it would arrive in time for this Halloween! Although I'm slightly curious if this GB will be a... "trick"

1800 also need 1.75U shift. And as you already added 1.5 mod and 7u space, you can add 3 extra keys for HHKB, 1u backslash and 1.5u delete, 1.75u control.

For the sake of having expensive keysets provide some utility, it may also be a good idea to add a WinKey for when it isn't Halloween. I'm actually not sure if the Code key fills this need however. Other than that I don't know, it looks good! Maybe an alternate colored spacebar?

GMK is doing some novelties for Hydro(?) and there was a GMK Carbon novelty kit, but that whole set sold in crazy numbers.

I'd probably be interested if you added 'HHKB' support - depends on what the price looks like with all the novelties you want. I run a WKL bottom row as it is, so if all the novelties are 1.25u R4, they wouldn't even go on my board.

I do agree though, not many purple GMK sets around (or in general actually) - I'm still using the Tai-hao light violet/white on one of my keyboards! Really hoping this works out, there are so many novelties that can be made to fit the Halloween theme as well!

Yeah, definitely want to add some candies, especially corn candies
For "Trick or Treat" probably will have one for enter or other mod keys with separate "Trick" / "Treat"

Yeah, I could also try the orange legend for alphanumeric, but the concern I have is that there are few kits with orange legends, say Skidata and Carbon. The purple legend could differentiate this set with others.

Yea I'm all for the purple legends, think it'll look a lot better than orange regardless and yea it'll help set it apart from carbon and and skidata. I think this set's strong point is its focus on purple and black rather than the usual orange associated with Halloween, changing the core like that just because the legend isn't super vibrant would be a shame.

I think they're readable enough as is either way, but like I said I might be biased because I tend to be partial to stealthier/subtle legends, probably a good idea to just wait and see if it's a common opinion in the thread over a couple weeks and then go over potential "fixes" if need be.

2, orange on n9 dark grey is charming (skidata), we have no real one keycap with purple on CR black or N9 dark grey, we could not confirm the real one if it is detectalbe and pleasant to our eyes. if we could ask GMK do some samples purple on CR such as carbon have done before we finalize this
3, Purple and orange spacebars are a good choice if added
4, all of us want more orange , such as F1-F4 , F9-F12 or number keycaps from 1--+

I was actually going to suggest that same exact thing before - if needed and if it is possible without driving up costs too much you could try using a lighter shade of violet for the legends on the alphas. Could do it so that it's just barely different but still improves readability if a lot of people see that as a deal breaker.

I guess the PANTONE 263 U is a great idea to consider since I want to keep the purple legend.
I will try adding more orange to see how it looks like. I will start with spacebar and F1-F4, F9-F12 :thumb:

Same here, I know it's a "Halloween theme", it's also reminds me of the Phoenix Suns and Clemson Tigers team colors. I'm sold on this colorway, just looking forward to the GB launch.

I'm lovin the pumpkin and ghost novelties. I think its really fun and is set apart from all other keysets, though im not sure if theres enough contrast with the purple on black.

It seems folks are pretty consistently expressing the concern on purple legend on black. I decided to use a lighter purple as a legend to make a stronger contrast.

I like the use of the different purple on the legends. It doesn't look out of place and will make them easily legible. I think the purple color of the mods helps make this set so I hope that doesn't change.

1,it is my great honor  that you adopt the light purple as legend for alpha. it seems that lighter purple fits better into black (CR) than purple (DY).
2,My original intention is choosing lighter purple for alpha color and black for legend. Currently ,it seems that you decision is much better than mine.
3,i appeicate your Halloween theme which consists in element such as"horror" ,"panic". Definitely , the black alpha is pretty fit into your Halloween theme than soft and light purple.

Hope it turns out well! Whilst I was not one to share that concern as you know, I'm glad you can make more people happy and I'm still content with a lighter shade for sure.

I'll be a happy camper once I'm able to have a set I can sub in for Halloween (of next year!).

Yeah, at first I had the same thoughts - this should be an orange on black keys, but then I realized that would be similar as skidata and carbon
I would see how the orange mods fit into this set, and with more novelties!

Alright, I realized it would be difficult to please everyone, but I'm still trying to find a middle ground

Here're two renders, one with PANTONE 263U, which is a lighter purple, and the other PANTONE 2087C, which is a darker purple but I believe still readable.

I wasn't complaining about the original legends, but I think if you need to lighten them, they should still be on the darker side. A lighter side of purple, like lilac, might be easier to read, but it doesn't fit a Halloween theme IMO.
