Hello,
A few days ago, I posted on Reddit to gauge interest in a Seattle Mechanical Keyboards meetup. It looked like at least 8-10 people were interested just based off that post, so I was hoping
to start preparing some stuff. The tentative date I had in mind was Sunday March 1st, although this is in no way concrete. I thought it might be a good idea to try to find a coffee shop around
town that has big tables with lots of space for our group and some keyboards, so if anyone has any recommendations, please let them be known. I'll start looking around town for some possible
options for a meet up location. Also, if you're in Seattle and at all interested, please comment so I can get an approximate head count. Hopefully, if things go well, we can do a reoccurring
monthly meetup.

I've also posted this on Reddit and DT in hopes of gaining some additional exposure.

Great to hear, fog. I saw those build logs you posted here recently and you do great work! Very good attention to detail I must say. I can't wait to see some of your boards!
I'll be bringing my HHKB Pro II, the Duck Viper I built, and some Clacks. Really looking forward to this.

UPDATE Some people voiced concern that if anyone under 21 wanted to participate they wouldn't be able to if we hosted this at a pub or bar. One option we have is there is a StarBucks at 1600 East Olive Way, Seattle 98102. I spoke with someone there this morning (2-19) and they have a room that has room for up to 10 people that is private. This Starbucks is actually pretty cool because if people want to they can get beer or wine at the wine bar here, but of course it's 100% accessible to people of all ages as long as you're not drinking. I've been in the private room before and it's off to the side so I can assure you people won't get upset about the loud clacking sounds. :D Anyway, they have another private room right next to this one that is slightly smaller and can hold 6 people. It's not ideal to split our group and so If anyone has any other ideas for coffee shops with big tables, let them be known! :) Otherwise, this is an option seeing that I've already reserved the large room and could easily get the small one next to it as well. UPDATE
Where: Starbucks 1600 East Olive Way, Seattle 98102
When: 1pm - 4pm
What: 10 person room reserved (there is another 6 person room next to it I can also reserve)
-
Huh that's cool. I didn't realize Starbucks had private rooms.
Wish I lived closer to Seattle to meet up with ya'll. Hopefully there will be some pictures :).
-
You sir, have an amazing Starbucks.

+1 to all of this.
Sounds like it will be a fun meetup,
. If you plan to do more and have enough notice I'd love to try to make it out for one. :)

Yeah! That would be a good idea. I'll have to start pestering everyone to bring a decent camera because my phone cam just won't cut it.

Phone cameras are fine with me! You obviously didn't see how I was blitzing the Keycon 2014 threads with potatoes from my phone :D.

The one I'm talking about is pretty cool. It doesn't compare to the one they just opened in December though. The Starbucks Reserve.

I live right in capitol hill and I haven't even tried it yet. So sad....

Hoff are you flying over to Seattle?

That would be sweet if you happen to be in the area! You're only welcome if you bring your collection. :D

I would be up for something like this. I've noticed many others that were located in Vancouver.

I'd like to try and make it out as well... anyone looking to shed some Topre caps?

Yeah, but Portland has a mech kb meetup too, right?

I'm definitely in this time (barring any unforeseen event,) but will need a ride from the Eastside tech-triangle area.
Spumoni is excited to go on a roadtrip :D
You'd probably garner more interest if you set the date at a later time though, the 1st is really soon.

The Seattle Mechanical Keyboard Meetup is still planned for March 1st. We still have a room reserved at Starbucks, but they wouldn't let me reserve both rooms. Another option we could use is Vivace Roasteria located at 532 Broadway E Seattle, WA 98102. There is another Vivace that is a sidewalk coffee bar down the street, so don't be confused with that. At Vivace, they have a large backroom where an employee assured me our group could meet. Unfortunately, this space cannot be reserved. Still, this room is much larger and I believe it to be our best option thus far. Maybe we could do a vote or if someone else has another better option, please speak up. Anyway, the Starbucks room is reserved for 1pm-4pm at 1600 East Olive Way Seattle, WA 98102 as another option.
Here are links to the posts on DT and Reddit.

Okay, I think I may have a much better option for this Sunday as well as possible future meetups. There is ANOTHER coffee shop named Victrola Coffee and Art located at 411 15th Ave E Seattle, WA 98112. They have a much larger back room that I was able to reserve on Sunday March 1st from 11am to 2pm. Unfortunately, this requires a change of time, but I've seen this room and it's fairly large and private and should have no problems fitting all people interested in joining. Let me know what you guys think. My apologies for throwing out this option so soon before the meetup.
-
Either location sounds good to me... I'm pretty new here, but pretty sure both are within walking distance. :thumb:

Great to hear. Well, I think the final call was to have it at Victrola Coffee and Art since I got a reservation in their private room and it's fairly large.

Need some usernames with that pic so we can creep! :P
Also, glad this meetup was a success. Seems like a great turnout for relatively short notice. :thumb:

Kind of sad that I missed this, even though I'm a socially awkward 15 year old... So maybe it's better that I missed this. :p
Maybe I'll come to the next meetup in this area of the world. I'm in Spanaway WA so it's not that far of a ride away from Seattle.

You should definitely come. We intentionally discussed making sure that the venue is friendly to those under 21 for this purpose. Plan on it next time!

Thanks. I actually showed the plans for the next (revised) prototype and the full system of keyboards based on it at the meetup. I'll be posting those soon :)

I had no idea you were the guy who created the solarized color scheme. I've been infatuated with that for a long time.

Didn't see this until it was too late, but I'd be interested in another Seattle meetup in the future.

I'll be arranging another meetup sometime in early April. I'll let you know.
-
Damn, sad I missed it. I don't have anything cool to show off, but I'd love to see some of the cool boards people have.
-
Bah, missed this because I turned email notifications of PMs off when I was visiting daily.
Up for the next one and will bring my Topre, Phantom, Lightsaver v2 and Model M!
-
didn't see this, but i'm in for the next one!
-
I was on vacation for last week, but my plan was to setup the next one sometime around the 11th or the following weekend. I tried to reserve a place before I left town, but there were some weird issues with the coffee shop not answering my calls. Weird... :D
EDIT: In addition to this, I have been saving usernames of people that are interested and I plan to send out messages when I arrange details. I want to copy some of the nice things the Portland meetup group has done as well. They created their own subreddit.
-
As you can see, I failed miserably at setting up another meetup in April. I did set something up for the beginning of August though.
Hope to see you all there!
