Care to laugh with me at MadCatz expense?
« on: Tue, 14 August 2012, 14:17:26 »
http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/08/14/mad-catz-launches-strike7-keyboard/

Apparently $300 for a "gamer keyboard" is a reasonable price to charge when it's got more flashing lights and doodads than even a Razer keyboard can provide. Don't worry though, the margins are good for them because its a membrane board.  :)) :)) :)) :))

I've yet to meet a pro gamer outside of MMOs that actually uses keyboard macro features and would actually give any f*cks over any of this keyboard's selling points. The video linked in the article was removed, so I've provided it here:

Lol Madcatz, lol.

^This, you don't need it built into your keyboard to have the useful macros like media keys.

I liked their modular game controller that they did, but that's about it. Everything else they make is just bleh.

Logitech probably OEM'd it :p

This, to me, is the anti-keyboard. It's expensive, and everything about it that drives up the price just makes it worse. Is that spacebar ergonomically designed for better jumping? It's ugly, inefficient, and expensive. Features that can actually impact gaming (like 6+KRO) are absent.

It's also not at all symmetrical. Disgusting.

Makes me really happy I spend my money on buying keyboards of better quality and customizing them instead of thinking I need a extra display to control what my OS already controls.

Maybe the modular thing was kind of interesting, but that was about it. What kind of switches will it be running? Some cheap membrane based switch I bet.

madcatz will forever be a crappy company of inferior peripherals, they're lucky that most do not remember going to a friends house and having to use the most cheap pathetic 3rd party mad catz ps2/xbox/gamecube pos worst controller ever.

even tho they bought out saitek and tritton, they are still the epitome of suck, i can't believe ppl actually pay for and are silly enough to be dupped by the cyborg mice, the sensor is suck crap, it's silly, but fitting i guess that that madcatz will milk more money out of ppl.

say what you will about razer, but at least they have quality (ok not the pos razer headphones that sounded great but were made out of playdoh and broke on me in a few weeks).

I LOLed at the fisrt sentence of the review "Purveyors of positively potty peripherals ..." after gazing in disbelief at the keyboard.

Ugh.

I think they are doing it deliberately - wonder how many they anticipate selling.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

lol $300 is way too much for a keyboard, not to mention over my budget.

It does look cool, but must feel like crap compared to mech boards. They've guts to roll this thing out though but I doubt it'll sell well. If that display isn't touch then it's fail lol

No?

Well, I can hope.

Anyway, I'd probably pay $300 for an M15, and it's membrane.

While the MadCatz Rat 7 Rat 9 or MMO mouse looks like a space ship the quality is actually impressive and it is highly customizable. I personally did not like it because it is low profile like a claw grip mouse which I do not like. This keyboard is ridiculous.

Terrible. Gimmicky and useless features,300 dollars an no mechanical keys.Better keyboards are available for 1/3 the price.

Pretty much sums up my opinion on this.

And this one:

Quote from: merigoldsass, 04:51am August 15 2012
"understand your concerns about the price and comments about mechanical keyboards. We believe the S.T.R.I.K.E.’s tech and performance are unprecedented and will speak for itself." In regards to this you can either make the entire keyboard mechanical and have a remote chance of being successful with it or if the HARDWARE is truly unprecedented and the keys feel amazing when typing than you may have chance at success (like the feeling of Topre keys, or cherry brown keys - which are incredible). Who really cares about a small ipad looking thing on a keyboard, anyone? The touchscreen on my Brother printer makes things a little easier to navigate I doubt it will mean much of anything for a keyboard. The only thing remotely interesting is the removable number pad. Let's see you top a good/ MUCH CHEAPER mechanical keyboard. Good luck with your "tech" and "performance," make sure to put a quad core processor in the keyboard while your at it.

Yup, this keyboard = complete bull****.

I don't know. I kind of like the idea of having a touchscreen available. It might open up interesting opportunities. It's an expensive experiment, though.

I still remember how bad the R.A.T 7 feels like. Although it looks really good. That's my impression about Mad Catz's products. Good looking, and tons of of unnecessary functions.

I'm using a R.A.T. 7 right now and I think it feels fantastic, looks like arse, and I wish that I could meld it with the Performance Mouse MX that I use at work.  The R.A.T. fits my hand so much better, and the pinky shelf is pure win, but I find it harder to use precisely than the Logitech, guess Logitech uses a better sensor or something.  I also don't understand why Mad Catz went to the trouble of putting the little thumb wheel in but mapped it wrong, so it doesn't side scroll by default.  (I've fixed that in Linux, but not sure how to do it in Windows.)

If the Logitech had the "shelves" like the R.A.T. did and also had a better side scroll mechanism (all my cheapie old Logitech mice had a detent when you pushed the scroll wheel side-side; the PMMX just feels wobbly and has no tactile feedback for that cunction) it'd be damn near perfect.

I know this is almost necro (last post is 16 days old!) but I just read through this thread and noticed that none of you mentioned this particular line from their blurb about the keyboard:

"...Replete with a specially engineered membrane which mimics the tactile feel generated by the mechanical keys often preferred by gamers - - without the resultant excessive noise - - ..." (http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/strike7.htm)

Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I somehow doubt it but I'd be really interested to see if there actually is anything special about the membrane they've used.

Sounds like them things between the legs.

Excessive noise? From a cherry brown :o I NEVER.

I find it completely silly the tactile point is great for typing but the real selling point for gamers is that their actions are ever so slightly quicker due to the key actuating midway and in some cases guaranteed >2kro. I would laugh if the strike 7 is 2 kro.

Who knows perhaps they have created a rubber dome to rival topre? (but that seems about as likely as this keyboard becoming the next dell quietkey)

The best thing about this keyboard has to be the advert itself...
