Old Compaq G80 keyboard
« on: Wed, 30 April 2008, 10:26:50 »
I was working in my office's computer lab the other day, when I came across some interesting keyboards. They are Compaq brand and made in Germany.

They keys are clicky and the switches have nice action. Unfortunately, one of them does not appear to be in working order. The other is in like new condition. These keyboards were once used for console access in our data center, so have seen only light usage in a clean enviroment, and then sat in storage for at least a few years. The keyboards are beige and a compact style with a built-in trackball.

I removed a keycap and the keyboards are using brown Cherry switches, which I suppose isn't surprising since they are model number G80-1190 and made in Germany.

My questions are does anyone know when these were made, just to satisfy my curiosity, and is there anything I can check or do to repair the one that isn't working?

On the broken one, the trackball works but the keyboard indicator lights never even flash during post.

Thanks,
Jonesy
