windows key on hhkb pro 2 (windows xp)
« on: Fri, 16 May 2008, 13:07:39 »
Hi,

I just got my HHKB Pro 2 and I wonder whether the option keys left and right of the space bar are supposed to work. I tried several dip switches and nothing seems to work, not even the alt/option exchange.

Anybody who has these working under XP? Any special settings?

Thanks.

I got it through crescent-shop.com.

geekstuff4u was too expensive and beNippon couldn't provide the case.

The cool thing with crescent was that everything is transparent (at least it seems to be). For ex. they tell you where they are going to order. Mine came from here:

http://www.ec-current.com/shop/g/g4939761301605

Which shows that the price for the HHKB Pro 2 in Japan is about 130 Euros.

After cost of products and shipping to them (none in case of the HHKB) they add their broker fee.

Shipping cost is determined later at shipping time but was reasonable.

I also didn't have to pay customs just VAT. But that's just how customs works for this product group here. It was a nice surprise though.

I tried a scancode reader (http://www.kdrive.de/files/scancode.zip) and the option keys do give scancodes. Just not the ones for the windows key.

So I probably have to take another look into AutoHotkey.

Still curious if anybody had it working right out of the box.

Read the diagram on the bottom of the keyboard and set the dip switches for Winblows XP.

I should buy a mac.

But for now, here are my dip settings:

sw1: off
sw2: off (HHKB mode)
sw3: on (backspace)
sw4: on (left option = function, doesn't work)
sw5: off (no alt/option swap)
sw6: off wakeup stuff

Should work but doesn't. There is no special switch for windows.

Good idea. :)

Try setting it to "HHKB Lite" mode. According to this page, the ◇ key acts as the Windows key in that mode:
http://www.pfusystems.com/hhkeyboard/leaflet/hhkb_backview.html
(See bottom of page.)

That page was for the HHKB Pro, but the settings seem to be identical to the HHKB Pro2 (Japanese link):
http://www.pfu.fujitsu.com/hhkeyboard/leaflet/hhkb_backview.html
My keyboards:
Realforce 87U (all 55g)
HHKB Pro 2 (black on black)
Filco Majestouch (n-key rollover, brown cherries)
Unicomp Customizer 101 (black with black keys)

How does that site work?

You have to register an account, otherwise you can't do anything. That gives you access to an internal message system where you can say what you'd like to buy. You can include sample links and pictures. Crescent will then find a vendor with a good price and post links to the products so you can double check. If you click 'accept' you pay and they order it for you.

Tried it again today and it worked. Thanks for the links!

In the meantime I fooled around with AutoHotkey and could change the right option key into a windows key. Still have the left one left as a modifier so I guess I'll leave it that way.

Still wondering why the dip switch wouldn't do anything yesterday. But it works now, so it doesn't matter I guess.
