Mechanical Numpad?
« on: Fri, 12 June 2009, 13:17:02 »
I know many prefer a keyboard to not have the numpad, but I'm not one of them. I want to get a numpad because I recently bought a board that is compact enough for me to travel with but when I'm using it at home, I will have the option in adding numpad for it. I would prefer one that has mechanical switches. Got any recommendations?

I was looking at this one, sounds clicky but I can't find what type of switch it uses.

EDIT:

Here is the youtube video.
At around 0:13 she clicks it and it sounds like cherry blues. Correct me if I'm wrong.

There is a Topre Realforce one but as yet it is unavailable to the public.
From what I have been told some banks in Japan are using them.
I personally would love one and it may be a good way for people to try the Topre switch without having to pay for a Realforce or Happy Hacking pro.
Keyboards. Happy Hacking pro 2 x2. One white one black. IBM model M US layout. SGI silicone Graphics with rubber dampened ALPS. IBM model F. ALPS apple board, I forget what it is. And some more I forget what I have.

Typewriters. Olivetti Valentine. Imperial Good Companion Model T. Olympia SM3

@ o2dazone

I don't want brown switches. I definitely like the sound of the blue better =)

@ lam47

That would be cool if they released it to the public. I have yet to try anything that has Topre capacitive. Still looking forward to that!

@ ripster

Thanks for the info. Can you please teach me how to use that search for this forum? You can always find anything but when I use the search, everything pops up. Thanks again!

you should buy a blue cherry donor board, swap the brown cherries in the keypad with the blues. That might be a first (at least here)

edit: just remembered there's no cheap blue cherry donors :( unless you can find a used g80 or something

Digikey sells blue cherries for around $1.50 each, for the quantity you'd need for a num pad, it'd work out pretty cheap.
Face plate mount and PCB mount versions.

Firefox keeps splashing up "Attack Site" when I try and look at the iOne site.

Nod32 pops up with a virus warning as well.  Looks like their site is infected.

Has anyone tried One of these?  They claim to use tactile cherries, not sure if they're browns or blues.
