[IC] GMK Dolch
« on: Mon, 06 June 2016, 23:14:11 »
[/spoiler]Introduction

I think I do not need to say anything about the dolch keyset, since it is a very classical keyset. I found that the last group buy of Dolch is in 2014 and many people are dreaming of owning their own Dolch set, so I want to reopen this group buy.

Supported layouts

BASE KIT:
- ANSI 104/87/60
- Winkeyless
 MOD SET:
-1800 (with 6u space)
-ISO
-75%
Possible Changes

If enough people are requesting the ISO/1800 keys, a mod set with ISO, 1800 keys ( 6U spacebar included) can be added.

Price

TBD

Final notes

I want to run this group buy on Massdrop and I am still contacting Massdrop. And I am not very familiar with the process of running the group buy on Massdrop and I will be grateful if some one can help me to contact Massdrop and run this group buy successfully.

I do not want to change the base kit anymore. Other keys, such as cyan mod keys, may be included in the mod set or a new child kit.

Group buy:

A group buy whose layout is similar to my base kit is being run by Chinese vendor, zFrontier. If you are interested in it, you can join it through Wechat (a Chinese instant message application). You can search the official account: zFrontier_China and join the group buy.

Any chance of running the color pack that was in Ivan's buy? I'd prefer if it were a child kit since I bought the main set but missed the color pack.

It had these keys
http://i.imgur.com/RUVBOgR.jpg

Or maybe the cyan kit child kit that was on MechSupply. Would be in for that too. Unforunately I can't find the render

If this goes through, I'd definitely be interested.

I'm new to this hobby and never got a chance to grab hold of this (Originative's got sold out before I managed to grab em')

+1 for the color pack that was in Ivan's GB

Perhaps we can have a poll to decide which Cyan mod keys should be included?

Admittedly, I'm only interested in the:

Cyan Esc
Cyan Enter
Cyan-colored Win10 legend

It would be the ultimate Dolch set if you could get the actual teal-green that's on the Dolch logo for the modifiers.

That's why I add some keys with TU2 color (cyan).

may include 6U spacebar
Last I heard, GMK broke their 6u mold and they don't have plans to buy another, this might have been changed.

The set is really cool, I guess ISO support (Enter and Left Shift) should be offered.

I'd also dare to suggest to turn the 7u bottom row to R5.

Yep, I heard that GMK now have 6u mold again and I have asked GMK whether 6u space is available. And the ISO may be provided in mod set. If the 7u row is changed to R5, more keys may be needed, such as the R5 arrow keys and 0 key. So I have no plan to add the R5 keys.

I beg you to add:

A long right ANSI shift, so OG Dolch can be used on modern keyboards.

6.25 standard spacebar to be bought separately as a "spacebar kit"

Basically I really want a moogle / adaptor kit to be made along with this.

What's different with the current 2.75 shift in there?

Will a center stem be added? The reason I ask is a center stem would allow, with the advent of additional sliders, topre boards to use them as well as a few boards from razer and cm which use 6u spacebars.

I like this set enough to potentially buy it again, given the right options.  The one sold on Massdrop (Originative) was pretty limited.

I think if Dolch is to be run again, it HAS to have full support for all the various more recent layouts - HHKB, winkeyless etc.

winkeyless is supported and I do not know whether HHKB layout is used by many people. since each kit should meet the moq, if only few people are using HHKB layout, those kit may not reach the MOQ.

HHKB is Topre, so right away nobody with a stock HHKB is going to buy this set.  That leaves you with modded HHKBs or people using sliders, and HHKB-like boards like the Duck Viper.  That's a pretty small number of potential users and I don't know if it's enough to justify raising the cost of the kit for everyone so a small percentage could maybe use the set.  Tough call.

Maybe I'm wrong and tons of people are using HHKB layout on Cherry boards.  Duck Viper users need to speak up en masse (and show up on group buy day) if they want in.

Quite a lot of people are using HHKB-ish layouts (split backspace is the main one you need extra caps for).

What are you putting in the split backspace that you need extra caps for?  HHKB "default" layout is backslash and tilde.  Those caps come in the base kit.  I don't follow.

Edit: Sorry, completely derped out there.  It's the 1u backslash key.  I will leave my post intact so that all may witness my shame.

It would be great if you could support HHKB. I think it will definitely be popular. The only keys you'd require would be a R1 \| key, R2 1.5u backspace and a R3 1.75u Control (also perhaps a stepped version, but not necessary)

I found the render for the cyan kit that MechSupply had in its failed buy.

Having something like that as a child kit in this buy would be great. I prefer if it had icon + text modifiers though.

As GMK has a pretty high MOQ (150 units) even for child kits there's never been a successful international kit for a GMK set. So I would say that not enough people who is interested in GMK sets care about international kits.

Sorry... (I would love a GMK Int kit, but I'm a realist =P).

With that said: I'm not very interested in this kit either =P The missing ISO support in the main kit is one of the reasons, the modifier style is another (I prefer Dolch with Icon legends).

I'm sad to hear that. Maybe you put up a separate IC just regarding the EURO-kit for this set. I can't imagine you won't find at least 100 interested. Or maybe I'm too naive :(

I would most certainly be in for a Dolch buy. Would it be possible to include two R4 blanks for non-Windows users?

this! 1000x this.

GMK is also now in possession of diamond R4 1¼U mold, thanks to GMK HADapter group buy. These should be perfect win key replacement for any future GMK group buy.

I'm interested if this set has vendor neutral replacement for win keys. I prefer the diamonds, but blanks are also OK.

I'm interested in the color pack that was in Ivan's group buy. I just want a splash of color on the Dolch set I already have. What I don't want, is to purchase another uninspired GMK modifier set just to harvest a handful of keycaps. It's really disconcerting that people in this community are so obsessive-compulsive and autistic they can't agree on a healthy compromise that doesn't involve spending hundreds of dollars on keycaps they're only gonna use a few of. I'm interested if this doesn't turn out to be one of those group buys.

It's not going to happen. Organizers have wasted so much time trying to get it going in the past. Every time, people complain about not getting their exact language in the exact way they want, and the interest gets fractured into many sets. Just take a look at Imsto's last PBT group buy. Couldn't even get Scandinavians to agree on a shared set. Buy an ANSI keyboard instead!

Any chance of running the color pack that was in Ivan's buy? I'd prefer if it were a child kit since I bought the main set but missed the color pack.

It had these keys

Or maybe the cyan kit child kit that was on MechSupply. Would be in for that too. Unforunately I can't find the render

Yes we need another Dolch run for sure!  I've been scouring the classifieds on all the threads trying to get a set of Ivan's old set.  1800 and ISO is a must and wouldn't be a true Dolch without them.

I would also really love to see Icon Mods please!  However, I'd be happy with either to be completely honest.

Let's make it happen!

Still, I would buy this set, and I secondthird the idea for a vendor-neutral meta/super key. Although I've never seen any two people agree on what it should be  :D

I think the interest is there for this set, someone just needs to run it. If the MOQ is 150? then it shouldn't be too hard, but I think a vendor would have to play a part.

Dolch is such a classic, maybe we can make a NORDE kit work ?

As much as I love the Dolch colors, I will not buy 100$+ sets without ISO-DE compatibility any more.
If you compromise a little on the tertiary legends, you should be able to make this work with ~30 caps.

Tomb3ry has prepared a full NORDE kit for Carbon and done a great job there.
