I just ordered a Roadkit and numpad set to match my incoming Minivan. Does the Roadkit also have a moq?

Cool, I think the 2.75 blank would be very helpful for those of us that have a split space bar like the VE.A keyboard
current keyboard: VE.A (home) WhiteFox TrueFox (home)  MD1 Infinity (Home)  Infinity Ergodox (work)
future keyboards:

I've got an idea, to add a couple keys if everything reaches moq. I'm still thinking about it, but I may make an announcement later

We had our meet up in Nashville, and I was commenting that night that there are not a lot of choices in terms of ABS doubleshot DSA sets, then lo and behold, evangs comes through with this awesome gem. Thanks for doing this!

Cool, I think the 2.75 blank would be very helpful for those of us that have a split space bar like the VE.A keyboard

Correct... and it sucks that I would have to settle for 2 orders with each saying "SHIFT" on it... ;)
I've got an idea, to add a couple keys if everything reaches moq. I'm still thinking about it, but I may make an announcement later

Can you update on this? I don't want to miss the GB but I need to know if I can make 2x 2.75u work :/

thanks evan!

Base + Intl.

Please don't forget about 2x 2.75u for a split space layout (possibly I don't want to use a shift key as a space haha)

Thanks a ton!

Is the GB over tonight or tomorrow night?

Also the webpage for the "Extras" pack states "Various layout support (1800, ergo dox, MiniVan, JD40, JD45, minorca, sebright, Tada68, HHKB, etc)"

Specifically for the HHKB I see a small shift but no Control key where the left capslock is.  Is that right?

That is correct. You would have to use the caps keycap. Orders will close tomorrow night

Hi, this will be my first keycap GB (building an Ergodox.) Can you let me know which sets I need to order to have my ergo covered? I'm thinking I'll need the base and the compatibility? Thanks in advance! Love this set.

yes base plus compat... you might need the numpad as well. be sure to count the number of 2 unit keys you need. I originally had the set as one large set and I don't remember if there are enough 2u keys across base + compat.

Got it. I edited it on KLE and it looks like base+compat will cover it. Order placed! Thanks!

I realize this is a little late to be bringing this up but, I just read thru the entire IC and GB threads, and it was never really specified *how* the stabs are going to work on Alps. Did SP find a way to do rectangular-mount Alps stabs on DSA keys? Last I heard the stab mounts were always cherry style cruciform. Like this:http://pimpmykeyboard.com/dsa-alps-mount-2-space-pack-of-4/
Will the Matias hook set be included with the Alps orders?

Shouldn't be a problem for me, anyway. I simply plan to use the stab inserts that came with my KBP V60 mini.

The stab inserts on the V60MTS are alps-style and not cherry-style cruciforms. SP's Alps mount keycaps also have the stab mounts closer to the center compared to the stock keycaps on the V60MTS. All the wires work fine except the right shift. I had to bend my wire haphazardly until it worked.

Or find a wire that fits, yes. The DSA Alps keys are apparently the same as the DCS Alps keys with regards to stab mount type and placement.

Correction: the stab inserts are Alps-style except the spacebar, which is MX-style.

This is going to suck some big ass if I can't get these on my V60. Not only does it only match up with 1 mounting hole on most standard 60% cases, but now I'm discovering that I just spend $100 on keycaps I can't use?  Dear lord, say it isn't so.

You can still use the keycaps. They just won't have 100% compatibility right out of the gate. You will need to do two things: 1) acquire MX-style stab inserts and 2) modify your existing right shift stab wire or get a new one.

Mine was a tight fit at first right after modifying the wire, but I filed down the stab holder that fits into the plate to allow for more clearance and it doesn't feel all that different from my unmodified left shift now. YMMV depending on how you modify your wire I suppose. I also use the left shift almost exclusively, so this isn't an issue for me.

Same here.

As such, I would probably just elect to remove the stabilizer wire all together. If I ever felt the temptation to use the right shift key, I would just do my best to aim for its center with my pinky.

P.S.  Anyone know how to go about making a stabilizer wire? What gauge the wires are and such?

Plan A: bend a paperclip
Plan B: buy it ready made from Matias (the set includes the plastic inserts you need for the other keys, so this should probably be option A for folks that don't already have those)
Plan C: buy the right gauge of wire and a wire-bender tool and make it yourself, but properly. The wire gauge is common knowledge but I always forget it. I remember that it can be found in the wiki at r/mk tho.

All the wires work fine except the right shift. I had to bend my wire haphazardly until it worked.

Huh.
I'm *still* faffing about trying to get my Badwrench DCS mods installed on my V80MTS, but I *am* lazy (and easily distracted by Zealios and GMK.)
But anyway, I didn't realize the other three wires would fit. I always started with the RShift because it was the biggest and in my mind should therefore be the easiest. I hadn't even tried the original wires from the V80MTS with the SP caps because I just assumed I would need to bend them, and I don't want to bend them.

Aha!  Didn't realize they sold them.  Is this what I would need: https://matias.store/products/stabilizer-and-hook-set  I guess $10 $15 isn't a deal-breaker by any means.

P.S.  Shipping was $5 for 5-8 day shipping. WTH?  $5 for a padded envelope going standard mail?

Insanity!     I guess I just learned to use the shift opposite of which ever hand was typing the letter.  I would say I use them both equally.  But I'm glad to know I can order a stabilizer set from Matias.  This news just made my day.

That will get the wire. I cannot confirm whether or not it works as I just bent my existing wire. You will still need to get MX-style cruciform stab inserts though since that's what SP's Alps mount caps use. WASDkeyboards sells them: http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keyboard-parts/cherry-mx-keycap-stabilizer-insert-2pcs.html

It looks like the set comes with 4 cherry inserts, right?   From the description:

Top Hooks (for connecting to the underside of the keycap - 2 top hooks are needed per large keycap):

Minimum 14pcs (usually around 18pcs) Alps style (gray)
Minimum 4pcs (usually around 5pcs) Cherry style (white)

I don't see how buying a stabilizer wire from Matias helps here. The problem here is that the stock 2.75u stabilizer wire of the KBP V60 mini is the wrong width to fit the post spacing of SP keycaps, right? The stab wire in the KBP is already a Matias wire (after all, the KBP has Matias switches in it). How does buying another one help?

I see what you're saying, unless the KBP has some proprietary wire (surely not the case), I don't know that this is going to help.  Maybe we'll be able to mod an MX wire on it somehow?  I guess we won't know until we get the caps and get to the dirty work.

I went ahead and bought the pack so that I could have a wire and inserts in case I needed them.  I don't have any extra on hand.  I guess worst case scenario is that I can bend up the extra one as my practice wire and perfect it on the second attempt.

Sorry chaps, I was under the impression that the Matias kit came with both the standard Alps wires and the hybrid Alps/Cherry ones. On closer inspection it looks like I was wrong about that. At least you can get a second set of Alps-style wires so you can bend them without messing up your originals. But that still doesn't help with the 2.75 shift.

Gentlemen, choose your weapons: paperclips & pliers, or music wire & a Du-Bro.

You'll need 8 cherry stab inserts since the spacebar on the V60MTS already uses cherry inserts. For the wire, it's not really a width issue, strictly speaking. The issue is that the wire isn't long enough such that the ends that are bent towards the switch don't extend far enough inward to hold the stab inserts.

So for the remaining stabilizer wires, not including the 2.75, they will fit fine with the cherry mx insert keys? I thought that since the alps stab wires are decently bigger than the mx ones, and the alps insert is a bit more forward than where the cherry mx inserts are located on the keycpas you would have to mcguyver something with all the wires in order to get compatibility.
I don't have a KBP60 nor a mx insert key (save my spacebar but I don't have a full length spacebar on my keyboard so I can't test), since mine is a custom which is why I'm asking.

Yes, they all fit fine. On my V60MTS, which this response was typed with, I used all the stock wires with the Cherry inserts from WASD without any issue, barring the 2.75u right shift, of course. The Cherry inserts may have a loose fit in the keycap stab mounts, but that's an easy fix with some Scotch tape or Saran wrap.

Then I guess I lucked out with my custom then. The spacing of the stabs on my 2.75 key is the same as all my 2 spaced keys, so I can just swap it for a 2 spaced wire and it would fit fine. So in theory I won't have to worry about modding; we'll see when the time comes though haha.

I'm new to keycap sets and DIY-kits. Using mechanicals kb since 30 years, but just fully build factory stuff.
All this stabilizer talk is confusing for me.

I ordered the Alps version of LightCycle.

Just did an ergodox build.

Please see my attachments, will match LightCycle the stabilizer-kit from the latest massdrop ergodox infinity ?

There is a special bonus that I will just leave as a surprise for when people start receiving their sets :D

Is it a 75% ALPS pcb by chance?  :p

All the stabilizer parts in your photo are cherry/costar, so it looks like it'll work just fine with the DSA-Alps caps. The only thing I could worry about is if the center (bottom) of the wire might hit the switch housing, but it seems unlikely.

Bending stabilizers for V60 Alps with SP keycaps
« Reply #105 on: Wed, 26 October 2016, 17:39:39 »
Regarding bending stabilizer wires for the V60. I still haven't received my SP Alpine Winter set, so I don't yet have any first-hand experience with this. But I did come across some very relevant discussions which I have not seen mentioned here.

Badwrench held the first community GB for SP Alps. He had a few things to say about adjusting stabilizer wires for the V60, including the ANSI right shift:
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=70817.msg1917032#msg1917032

When Alpine Winter came out, jbondeson also wrote a tutorial for bending stabilizers for the V60:
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=75515.msg2044488#msg2044488

For the ANSI right shift, Badwrench reuses the existing stabilizer by turning into a trapezoid shape. But jbondeson does not consider that possibility, and suggests starting with a longer stabilizer wire.

Yeah, I used the existing wire. I made it work, but it ain't pretty. Using a new, longer wire is probably a better idea.

Have you considered just running this through PMK's website?

I fear that small scale group buys are slowly becoming a thing of the past due to pricing. SP's prices will only continue to climb over time, and eventually the only viable way to get a set made will be to get MassDrop levels of participation.

Now I've got to either find some other way to get a decent DSA set made with Alps stems, or sell my brand new KBP V60 mini on eBay.

So while we wait for LightCycle to rise from the grave, who's up for Dolch DSA with Alps stems in the mean time? I already have a quote from SP for kits identical to the current MX-based set. We could run it through PMK's site along side the existing (MX) set.

Evan... I'm so sorry. It's a shame for us buyers that it turned out this way but I'm sure for you, as the creator, it is much more painful - I know I speak for many when I say I understand the decision and that you'll have my full support if you get this back on its feet some time in the future, it's a lovely, lovely set and you deserve to see it succeed. I ordered a blue WhiteFox case and a tron wrist rest to go with it after all, I'm not giving up that easy! :blank:

Glad I ordered a set with your Van kit, would be way sadder if I'd not - guess Granite will have to do as my "full sized" set for a little while longer!

This is nuts, did the GB price change for the base and jumped kits?  If not, please allow participants to join for those kits san the compatibility kit. Quote the compatibility kit for its fair retail price and people would simply have to understand the price is the new price.  Refunding all orders seems like the best thing to do though everyone should know that the new kit required the higher price.  Origco did the same thing when they first said a GMK set would be $199 and then the price came out much higher than that.

refunds are complete. Once again I apologize for any inconvenience. I am working hard to bring you guys some awesome things. It is unfortunate that this had to end this way, but I won't let it keep me from moving forward.

I am extremely bummed, but fully understand. Now I will need to see if I can find something else for the Red Scarf.

Seriously though, I'd pay whatever is required to get this set, even if it required me to buy the Alphas, compatibility and numpad sets all in one. This set is just that good.

I was super sad to see the refund email in my inbox this morning.

I wasnt excited about this GB, and then someone on discord convinced me to get hype, and I got hype, and now I cant have it.

This has been one rollercoaster of keycap emotions.

If When you run it again, hopefully it will correspond with my finances so I can support!  You did an aboveboard job, so don't think you let anyone down!  Failures will come- it's how you respond to it that defines you.  And IMO the definition you're showing is great!  You're one of the GB runners that I have no doubts about joining in on.

This is nuts, did the GB price change for the base and jumped kits?

What many people don't understand about keycap set pricing is that the price of a kit is based on the number of each keycap that will be manufactured for that kit. A base kit has a much lower per-keycap price because so many people buy the base kit. But when a specialty kit with, say, 20 keycaps in it only hits 50 kits sold, the price for the kit is almost twice what it would be if it were bundled in with the base kit.

My understanding is that LightCycle's pre-order prices were based on taking the price of the entire keycap set as a single kit and proportionally splitting it up by kit size. Doing so dramatically changes the per-keycap price of each kit due to the dramatically different quantities of each kit ordered.

At least you had the decency to refund everyone, and write an official post about it.

Truly a shame - I even planned a new build because of this keyset. Hope it gets rebooted in the future.
It will reboot eventually

Just wanna say, I never joined this group buy because it was just not 100% my style, but I will be paying attention to anything you do in the future, vans, cause the way you handled this and handled the refunds was just classy and professional.  Sorry it didn't work out, but from how I see, you didn't let anyone down, just took a risk and, when it didn't pan out, you protected everyone else in the community.  Kudos.

What's this?  A group buy that was unfulfilled for honorable reasons?  Funds immediately returned to buyers?  The only "victim" is the organizer's own aspiration to have his keyset made.  You're a trailblazer.  That's a pretty strong show of character.  People are going to remember this.  I'm really sorry to see this GB not succeed.  While Dolch is not my thing and I was reluctant to spend $150 on a profile I never experienced, I almost joined this GB a couple times.  I keep coming back to this thread to look at this set and to see its progress.  I was really looking forward to seeing the real thing on keyboards.  I'm still looking forward to seeing LightCycle on people's keyboards.  Maybe next time, my keyboard will be one of them.  It's just going to be a longer wait than anticipated.

I'm very happy about all the praise Evan is getting. He is one awesome, genuine dude.

Please make a huge announcement when this drop is ran again, Evan. I really do not want to miss it. I regret not joining the one on Massdrop, but I'll be patient!

On the bright side, The Minivan is on the way soon! Woot!

This month I've had a seller send me an acrylic case in an envelope, and refused to refund me when it arrived in pieces. A 'prestigious' keyboard company send me a defective product and try to pull a slick one and only refund the item's price and not refund my initial shipping cost. And I'm involved in a GB that's supposed to ship tomorrow, but the seller has been silent since Sept. 29th.

I'm not a fan of DSA so I was also on the fence about Light Cycle. In the end I decided not to join the GB. After seeing how evangs has handled this, the next time it runs count me in for a minimum of 1 set.

Until this GB I never considered throwing money at keycaps....but they were too sexy.

Totally understand the way it happened and greatly appreciate the prompt communication and refund.

I was and still am in for a full set of MX; my DOX demands them.

Well this GB's ending was bittersweet.

Originally I was interested in this set but then MechSupply started a GB for Devlin Q-Series SkiData - and I only had enough money for one so I went with those.  So this GB expired and I had a pain in my gut from not getting in.  Then I find out the SkiData set won't even have a proper 6.25 space bar - it's a taller DSA replacement (!?) because Devlin doesn't have the molds.  So now I'm not getting either set haha.  :p

Well at least I will feel better this may come back some day.

I jumped on this one as soon as it launched independently (apart from the Minivan massdrop option). I got in for an additional compatibility kit and was even ready to get me a Matias board just to have a second set! I was bummed to see it cancelled but I understand these GB's can be a tough process. I am told it will run again eventually and when it does I will be in for a full set minimum Evangs!

Put my KBP v60 with Matias switches in a Royal Glam today.  You know what this looks like?  Dump.  It looks terrible.  But you know what would make it right?  Light Cycle DSA alps, baby.

This will sit unused until it can have its rightfull caps installed.
