Please fill out this quick survey if you joined or plan to join the buy. We need to make a decision on which base to cancel to proceed.

*If you end up with a ridiculous shipping rate that doesn't make sense, its because Im using a new third party app. Please drop me a line at orders@thekey.company if that happens.

Hey everyone! Honch0 here. You guys spend alot of time on mechmarket, and you know as well as I do that there has been a MASSIVE uptick in group buys lately. Seems at any given time there are 3 or more GMK buys going concurrently. GMK sets are great. They are, in my humble opinion, the finest keycaps money can buy. But compatibility drives the cost up, limited font options, and they just dont fit everyone's budget.

Last year I started working with a new factory in China (new to me at least, these guys have been making kits awhile now). I wanted to bring something to market that was different, affordable, fun, and high quality. After months of screwing around on Illustrator and getting samples back and forth allow me to present:

TKC Katakana Cherry PBT

- PBT dye sublimation
- Target price $75 +/- depending on color way
- Mac keys included in every kit
- UK ISO keys in every kit
- Ortho Keys Included
- Waiting on factory to see if we can add a 6u centered stem spacebar and R3 Esc
- 4 color ways available (for now)
- Estimated delivery April 2019
- Kits packed in trays

Will the BoW have the same white as WS1 of GMK? I'm concerning if its turn out beige instead of pure white

You had youre chance in the IC!

Were going to be running more of these apple font sets this year so an icon mod set it doable! I just wanted to keep the aesthetic clean and authentic for this debut.

I don't like the italic fonts so much... Wouldn't it make more sense to use cherry style legends, which allow to have bigger letters? Probably function keys font look too big in comparison to the others?

The italic font was kind of the point: Every set on the market with few exception is the same font.

No, I dont have any samples of the gray. However there are pantone codes on each mock up to help illustrate the color.

Don’t know; I don’t own any backlit keyboards.

I’m sending a set to Living SPeed Bump to test. I’ll seenif he can accommodate you.

Would have preferred to see a version without sub legends but decided to join anyway due to the very fair pricing and HHKB support.

Just buy 2 sets; they’re $5 off each when you buy 2+. Use KATAKANA as a coupon code at checkout.

2 sets of these cost less than a GMK base kit. And it’s more keys.

Very excited about this GB!

A detail that I want to point out for the Matcha set:

In most other sets, the 1u backslash cap on the numeric row (circled in orange), is usually in the color of the alphas (in this set should be the cool gray color) to achieve a full symmetrical look for layout such as 7u-spacebar HHKB layout.
Please check if you can modify this for the production.

Thanks and I am looking forward to it!
Wishlist: 1) nice thick Alps caps; 2) Cherry profile POM;

No, I dont have any samples of the gray. However there are pantone codes on each mock up to help illustrate the color.

I'm interested in the colour of the grey set too. I googled the pantone code and came up with this illustration of 2 varieties of 'pantone grey 1', from the XDA Oblique gb:

Personally, I think '1 U' looks nicer, but I think I'd be just as happy with '1 UP'.

I chose Cool Gray 1 because it was the closest swatch I had to OG Cherry double shot black on grey. It’s an ambiguous color and will compliment many different color ways.

How are they handling the White on Black?  Is it reverse dye subbed?

I missed the IC, but colemak / icon mod / katana kits would be an instabuy for me.

Good luck with the GB.  We need more GBs like this.

I hope this gb goes well enough to have another high quality supplier of dye-sub cherry profile on the market.

Just want to point out again, in the Matcha set, as the top row 1-unit backslash cap (circled in red) is there for the HHKB style layout, like the keyboard examples below, it should be of the same color as the alpha:

Please kindly make this change for manufacturing.

Get them both, theyre cheap enough! 2 sets with the discount and shipping is still less than one GMK base set! As far as thickness, Ive not thrown a micrometer on them. Ill see if I can get around to it today. There is a pic in the post showing how thick they are compared to GMK.

Just curious: can you comment on the surface texture please.

On a scale of 20 year SA caps to brand new won't, how rough can we expect them to be?

Here are some macro shots. You be the judge. It’s a very minimal texture, not super heavy like those sets TaiHao sells

Those look fine to me, GMK-level texture (GMK texture is great when new, but being ABS they smooth out very quickly).

Legends are smaller, which I like. Helps make the set different than so much of the other bilingual sets out there. The legends are surprisingly crisp as well from the test set I've had my hands on. Would def be in for a few sets based on what I've seen in person.

Will Matcha modifiers be darker as shown above or a bit lighter like in the OP? Maybe it's just the lighting that makes it look a bit different.

The Matcha looks over brewed towards dark grey in this lighting, hope it is lighter in color in person.

A comment about general keycap sets that make use of the legend ‘code’ as a modifier:

For text modifiers, I hope TKC consider trying to use something other than ‘code’ that has real historical convention, such as the ‘meta’, ‘super’, ‘hyper’ from the space cadet keyboards of Lisp machine. A lot of sheer profit GB runners like MassDrop just brainlessly use ‘code’ in most of its set, which is tasteless.
Seeing how TKC runs the GMK Terminal, I believe TKC is into delivering nice designs, hope you can consider this text modifier advice in the next designs.
