Why not QMK? It's an interesting design!

we tryna add Bluetooth 5.0 to the board, and we found QMK wasn't possible with bluetooth

It is possible with AVR microcontrollers, but not ARM (for the time being).

I must say that I am disappointed the board won’t use QMK.  I also don’t care about the Bluetooth feature as I likely won’t utilize it. (Especially if the board doesn’t ship with it’s own battery like I’ve seen with most Bluetooth enabled PCB or board kits)

But that being said, I can see how that feature might be a draw for some folks and I’m still very excited about the progress being made on this project.  If I only go in on a single keyboard project out of this year, the Cyberboard will be it to be sure.

I'm assuming this is going to be using one of the common NRF bluetooth modules, if so, the Joric QMK branch is supported, so QMK is possible, though not on the main branch/configurator

I agree with the sentiments above--I'd much rather see QMK support than Bluetooth.  On this board in particular, that LED matrix is going to just devour battery, so I'm not sure it even makes sense...

Given the number of custom cables I have purchased, Bluetooth is dead to me! haha

Also agree that I would rather not have bluetooth, especially since if it means I have to use closed source software to program it.

I'm pretty neutral on the whole Bluetooth debate, however, I will say that due to it's size and weight, Bluetooth is a unique inclusion, especially since the board looks like it will be very heavy.

hello guys any ideas about the case? my boys are literally divided into 2 parties, half of them want the black case while others need a white one. what's your opinion on color options?

Black vs white, I prefer black, a dark gray would also be good, and I like the deep purple/blue as well.

It's a cyber board, it should be raw brushed stainless steel finish.  Like the cyber truck.  Or a delorean.

Assuming, you are talking about the carrying case, I really like the black option with the green text, but I can imagine a brushed/natural aluminum color going well with the theme. Will the carrying case be an optional add-on?

I love the idea of the case but you need to think more like 1980's font and colours.  The case itself is good but the font is wrong.  This is not an industrial keyboard (in my eyes) it is a hackers keyboard from the 1980's.  Think "War Games" and a digital font.  If you go this way then space grey or black with green would be the order of the day.

That looks neat, but I don't really know what I'm looking at.  Is it an alternate bottom weight piece?  What is it going to be made out of?  It looks like that is going to be a PITA to machine if it's going to be metal...

I don’t know what it will be made of but it’s a sound dampening piece.  The wavy shape is interesting, and should cut down on echo reverberation inside of the case.  Similar to the effect of corrugation in giant steel pipe structures, which eliminate the echo effect if you were talking inside of them.

In that case, the corrugation is rigid and eliminates echo, so I don’t know if this dampener would need to be rubbery or spongey like other keyboard dampening techniques I’ve seen.  Interesting in any event!

Presumably it's an internal dampener, similar to the RAMA ones. Looks similar, too.

I have a few questions.

I just noticed that the group buy is limited, do you have an estimate on how many units/spots you will be producing?

Will the carrying case be an optional accessory, or will it come with the board by default?

Have you finalized the colors you will be offering? Or just decided that 8 is the number of colors you will be offering?

And finally, do you have any ideas on what the custom switches will be like? Linear? Tactile? Clicky? Silent? Who will make them?

I do like the purple stems slightly more, the yellow stems are a little harsh in contrast to the housing. I think the color and translucency of the housing is spot on though.

hey squishy, thanks for your questions! i'd love to answer your questions, but unfortunately, there's stuff we really haven't made a decision.

1) how many units/spots we will be producing - less than 1000
2) optional accessory or default - default
3) Have you finalized the colors you will be offering? - not yet, working on it (*sad noise*)
4) specs for switches - since its a very early version, we are still talking about the design.

if you want to know more, welcome to my discord and chat with people, thank you again!

Hot-swap PCB looks great. Will there be also a white version of it ?

Any chance for QMK to be supported for PCB only? I’d rather use QMK for the PCB and then some proprietary program for the LEDs

This is look really good. At first, I was suspicious of this project as its design is unprecedented. But I am very happy to see the progress so far and will probably join the group buy. 2020 is the year of Cyberpunk after  all :)
