When I sat down to design this board I was initially thinking something more traditionally gasket-mounted, but when I looked around at other boards being offered it seemed like the majority of boards already offer this and I figured I'd try something a little different. The idea with the mounting here was that the entire assembly would fix down into the bottom case to make the overall assembly much simpler (no fiddly cables connecting the top and bottom together). This also allowed us to have a simpler top case design internally which helped us get to a more competitive MSRP. Plus I like bottom mount and we don't see it often enough :D

I don't believe so. Yes. Probably not (unless a vendor specifically asks).

This makes it incompatible with some devices, such as Yubico security tokens and similar; moreover it exposes the PCB fixing screws: IMHO I find them ugly to look at, in fact they pass through the internal weight and are not symmetrical.

Because of space, basically. The USB-A ports aren't small so the cavity needs to be deeper than what your usual USB-C daughterboard requires. If you mounted them with the USB ports on the top side of the daughterboard you would no longer have the required depth in the case material to screw the daughterboard down, and I didn't want to increase the case angle further or make the board any taller in general  :thumb:

Yours the board, yours the choice. I'll live with that.  ;)

Do you think it would be possible to consider designing those plates and then make their files available at the end of the GB?

I imagined that was the reason, thanks for the confirmation. However, I think that this choice should be carefully considered because it significantly limits compatibility with some devices.
If you don't want to increase the case angle, maybe you could use the same type of approach that you used for the bottom mount and... try something different: how about a hub with USB-C ports?

Thanks for your kind replies, once again: GLWIC!!!

Not sure if I really need another 60 board - but I'm in I guess.

This is something I'll have to discuss with the rest of the team, but I'd imagine we'd do that at some point ;)

Definitely a solid bit of feedback to consider for a future project :thumb:
