I know new legends are $45 but new molds are considerably more expensive and would be required for this. That being said I love scoops and am interested.

Scoops are when there's no raised part of the key, rather the curve of the keytop is more concave than the others. Original Cherry keys have scoops.

I like the way scoops hug my index fingers while they're resting on the home row. :) But as danielucf said, don't know if SP would be willing to make new molds just for this.

I've spoken with SP about various ideas at different times. They qouted me $700-1200 per mold depending on complexity and size. As long as there is no technical reason preventing them to be made I don't see why not as long as funds can be raised. I would be more interested in having new molds made to replace thier heinous bottom row on DCS however. I think these 2 things really should be done if Cherry replica doubleshots are ever to be made. Would be nice to get that much closer instead of halfassing it.

I like scoops.

I thought I read that new molds were about $4500 each. Maybe that was just for 7bit's spherical spacebar. But if there is enough interest, we can get it done. i3oilermaker did just that with the center stemmed stepped caps lock.

I have scoops on my cherry caps and I hate them.  Not enough of a difference for me to easily find the home keys.  They are nice and smooth, though.  I think my favorite is the center bump on old WYSE, which is even more noticeable than the more usual bar on the bottom of most modern keys.  Of course I'd probably cave and buy a set of new scoops anyway, just to have them ready in case I learn to like them.

If we pay for the mold, technically wouldn't the mold be ours?

SP would need to ask us before they can use it fore one of their products, correct?

right, but if the mould was being cast for a new shape of cap, wouldn't it make more economic sense to allow for all the row's to be done? Or isn't that possible with how keys are produced (I have no idea).

What you need to do is make a group buy for the scooped F and J keys, and split the tooling cost between all the participants.

No, it's not possible.  Each row has a different mold for 1x keys. (and then a different mold for keys with the nub/nipple/whatever).

Scoop all the sets!!

I'm worried if there is anything special or different involved with double shooting with a scoop key. If you look at the underside of Cherry F and J keys you can tell that the insert with the legend is different from any of their other double shots. But if SP says they can do it then I'd hope they realize the legend to fit inside it would also have to conform to the scoop shape.

I'm all in for supporting this, hopefully there's enough people so that the mold price can be shared reasonably... Great point about the Cherry Replica though - scoops will mean that those sets will be even closer to the original.

Scoop all the sets!!

This is a good point... Surely Melissa factored in the cost of the first shot mold into that price?
