[IC] Cherry Switch Top Removal Tool
« on: Sat, 20 October 2012, 02:44:31 »
The interest check:
I will be buying some of the switch tools at the same time as the poker plate group buy. This is just a interest gauge NOT an order form. Please keep the "other" option short, simple and to the point. They would come pre-bent and sanded ready to work as soon as you get them.

What it looks like:

Looks dumb but I could take apart 7 switches PER MINUTE:

Interested, filled out that form. Does it come with finger tape, and those fingers as well?

On a more serious note, I don't think it's required you bend them. In fact, I think it might be better that you don't bend, that way you can hold it at the tip for slightly more leverage and your fingers are closer together.

Interested in the tape and fingers as well...my fingers would tend to get chaffed and tired from such an activity.

I tried it without the bend, it didn't work

How so? Just by looking at the pics, I wouldn't think that the bend just allows your fingers to hold it at certain angle, but not totally prevent the design from working.

Without the bend, you can't actuate the switch top enough to

Oh yes! This tool looks to be exactly what I would need. I've been starting to have issues with some switches because of the way I've been opening my switches on my Poker tens of times.

GET'ER DONE! ;)

Filled out form.

Would be cool if we/you could find a way to put them together when not in use. Magnets, easily open string or similar, etc.
But this is just a neat bonus, I totally could live w/o it.

Can I recommend a modification?  Punch 2 holes through the tool, one a small distance up from the base of the curve, another a small distance down from the top end.  3/8" seems like a good size.  You could then use elastic cord loops to attach the tools to your fingers instead of tape.

I like the idea of magnets but like alaricljs, bungie cords would help open the switch AND keep them together

Form filled, I'm interested.  I'm currently using binder clips.  They work fine but tend to put too much stress on my finger tips.  I was thinking about getting some angled tweezers.

I think I'll be buying 120 tools/60 sets during this GB. I'll be able to ship with the poker plates (I'll just add what it cost onto your shipping invoice) or separately if you didn't order a plate.

Tentative pricing is $5.50 + shipping

There were a couple $10 and if you want to pay that, I'll accept. But the vast majority were in the $4-$7 range

I'm front the money and buying ~60 sets. You can just buy from me directly. They should be ready ~11/30 since I'll have to sand and bend 120 of them

dumb question, this tool doesn’t need the leverage from below the switch, is it possible to change switches without desoldering even on normal plates then?

Nope. If you look at a switch is has four legs/hooks that need to be unhooked from the bottom of the switch. On OEM plates there is no cutout to allow the legs to be moved. On the poker/phantom plate, you can see little notches cut out which allow you to remove the top without having to desolder
