CST LTRAC Pool Ball Swap Mod
« on: Tue, 21 April 2015, 18:16:21 »
Quick and easy. Imgur album here. Pool ball feels very slick at first but Clacktalk smacktalk assures me it wears in.

1) Flip over and remove 3 screws. Third screw is under sticker.

2) Remove top and admire the stock ball.

3) Pickup ball. It isn't held in with anything. Admire the mechanical roller mechanisms.

4) Clean pool ball

5) Plop pool ball in between three roller mechanisms

6) Replace cover then turn over and reinstall screws that were removed in step 1

7) Enjoy

nice to have a reference even though it's a very easy swap!

thank goodness it's easy. i see myself swapping between a 3 and 8 ball very often. for people looking for billiards balls online, ebay has some vendors that have ballz at very sweet prices (at least for CONUS)

My 4 ball is very old.

CPT as far as smoothness is concerned actual trackballs feel more buttery but pool balls will keep the bearings clean for longer.

Why's that?

Different surfaces, I've used several balls and each feels different. The smoothness and bearing cleanliness are just things I've noticed.

Edit: Ball weight also affects the feeling

Ah ok. I wasn't sure if you were speaking from experience or some well known fact that I didn't discover yet :).

And somewhere out there there's a person trying to play pool but their set of balls is incomplete.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
