My Precisionist.
I'll edit and add text later.
Edit:
So, I got another chrono. I wanted another chrono and I been swayed by the smooth gliding precisionist movement. Well here it is. I haven't seen any mechanical chronos I like, but I'll add one eventually.
Right off the bat, this watch is huge. 18mm thick, and 62mm from the tip of the endlink to endlink. It is weighing down the wrist at 260g. I knew it would be big from the specs, but DAMN is it big on the wrist. I'll spare the jokes. It is comical enough on the wrist.
Mini review:
Good:
- Tough industrial looking design
- Great silver, blue, carbon, yellow color mix.
- carbon fiber dial
- fish scale finished ring on the other edge of the dial
- Interesting hour and minute hands
- lovely twisted fluting on the crown.
- chunky bracelet that balances well, and has diver's extension hidden in the clasp
- Lovely tactile feeling on the chrono pushers, though a bit on the heavy side.
- pretty smooooooooth second hand. You can still see the steps when looking closely enough, since it is only 16hz.
- Biggest pins in a pin and collar bracelet I've seen yet.
- Takes common CR2016 battery
- Your arm doubles as a flail in an emergency
Meh:
- No sapphire. Doubtful if there will ever be compatible aftermarket option either.
- comically big. 10% reduction in all measurements would be perfect.
- Wish the second hand would reset faster in chrono mode
- Lume, so weak that it may as well not have it.
- the allen screws on the top is over the top.
- Clasp feels chinzy.
Eh:
- Screw down crown. But not screw down pushers?......
- While rated for 300m, I highly doubt I want this boat anchor on my arm when I go diving.
- wish the hour subdial can display 2nd time zone in watch mode.
- No more tuning fork logo
I guess it is only on Accutron II now.
- The Precisionist logo on the second hands looks like bawls.
I have very few watches left on my to-buy list, and a Bulova Accutron II Snorkel is one of them. Torn between PVD and the stainless and blue model. The Precisionist does make a good impression, but if the build quality is similar I do not think I want to pay 400 for the Snorkel. May be around 300 or so.
I'll time it for awhile. I'll see if the B5 build date (2015) holds better accuracy than before. Older ones doesn't come close to holding the +/-10seconds a year claim. Then again, I don't really care that much if it is not. I set my quartz watches every time there is a short month anyways.
