Filco replaceable cable mod
« on: Tue, 17 May 2016, 21:59:37 »
I took about 3 hours to install a mini usb female adapter.

Used the female end of this:

To do a vertical placement, I had to:
- shave the inner shell down to nearly the bottom
- remove the softer plastic / rubber shell from the adapter
- sculpt the top corners down to fit into the rounded contour of the top shell

Cut the filco cable to reuse the pcb connector, and solder on the female adapter:

test placement:

Ironically solder the male end onto the filco cable to use as the first test cable:

the plate resting on the bottom shell, clearing the new parts, evidence of JB weld showing through:

everything buttoned up, no real ugly evidence of case modification:

sweet curly cable bro:

now to get a pimp cable!

I did the same thing a while ago but your results look definitely cleaner than mine.

Thanks for the compliment! This is my first keyboard hardware mod but I've done some work on modding game consoles before. Cheers,

I've done some work on modding game consoles before.
I'd happily see them.

Sure, this is the only one I still have in my possession. It's a version 1 gameboy advance with:
- aftermarket case
- a backlit led screen from an advanced sp v2
- glass screen cover

Sweet! I like that. I also have one in silver to mod but not sure if I'll actually play it afterwards. I just sold my Gameboy Advance Micro, 3DS XL, PSP Phat and PSP Go cos I don't play  handhelds anymore.

I don't use it much either, but I have 4 gbas and the link cables and every now and then it's fun to bust out 4 way Mario kart when the gang is over.
