You need only post once on the new forum software so that you can participate and see Classifieds and Group Buys.

I understand how it could be beneficial hiding those sections from new users, but I feel the definition of "new user" is a bit off. At the moment it's purely based on post count, but I'm sure there are plenty of lurkers like me who have not posted but have still been here for a decent amount of time (and have previously participated in buying/selling and group buys) - isn't there a way to take join date into account?

I think that taking join date into account is more effective than post count.. for anything really. Like honest, 10 posts for viewing stuff? Ok, more spam on the forums. 1000 for viewing member subforums?? Even more spam. Could it be possible to make it so someone has to be registered for a week or two for viewing gb and classifieds, and 1 month for subforums? Something like that sounds more reasonable to me. I don't want to spam my way up to 1k just to see someone's subforum. I have access but I need to bookmark the forums or else I don't see them where they are originally listed.
